Chapter 193 Ms. Jackson Smiled

Harmony turned around and saw James. She felt a sudden relief in her heart and snorted, "Why do you take so long in the bathroom? I thought you fell in the toilet."

James rolled his eyes.

Since he had been in the bathroom, he hadn't seen what had just happened. Now, seeing many guests gathered over there with a lively atmosphere, he curiously asked, "What's going on over there?"

Michael smiled and explained it to James, then said, "James, if you weren't married, you could give it a try."

"What?" James felt a sudden jolt in his heart, a bad premonition rising.

He knew that only one person would use this method, and that person was none other than Ms. Jackson.

Harmony immediately laughed "Michael, stop joking. Even if James weren't married, he wouldn't stand a chance. Look at all the young talents here; which one isn't more handsome than him?"

Michael said speechlessly, "Then why do you insist on having him as your dance partner?"

Harmony was immediately choked. She straightened her neck and said righteously, "I chose him because he's not handsome, just to annoy those men."

James began to panic. His eyes cautiously scanned the crowd, looking at Ms. Jackson. He immediately shivered, his teeth chattering.

'My God, it really is her!' he exclaimed inwardly.

Even though she wore a veil that revealed only her eyes, James recognized her. She was that woman, Maria Jackson.

In an instant, James felt his scalp tingle, his hands and feet cold. He wasn't just panicked; he was scared.

'This is not a place to linger!' After realizing it, James immediately had the urge to flee.

It wasn't because Maria was his enemy, but because Maria was too clingy. Her bullying was endless, and she was particularly domineering. She wouldn't allow James to have any relationships with other women.

She always had deep feelings for James, but he saw her as his sister, which always drove Maria crazy.

However, speaking of which, they hadn't seen each other for five years. The little girl of the past had now grown into a beautiful woman.

After a couple of glances, James dared not look any longer, fearing Maria would notice him. He quickly lowered his head, clutching his stomach, and said to Michael, "I suddenly feel a bit unwell. I'm heading back."

After saying this, he tried to escape.

But Harmony immediately caught him and grabbed his hand. "Hey, stop pretending."

James said with a long face, "I'm not pretending. I really feel unwell. I'm dizzy and need to rest."

"Liar, you were perfectly fine while eating just now. How come you're suddenly dizzy? "Harmony clearly didn't believe him, her face full of disdain. "Besides, aren't you supposed to be a great doctor? Treat yourself then."

"I'm not joking with you. I'm really dizzy. I have a rare condition called High Altitude Intermittent Fainting Syndrome.. If I don't rest in time, it could be a big problem!" James said seriously, completely fabricating the illness.

However, Harmony wasn't fooled at all. She held onto him tightly and didn't let him go, her face full of disbelief.

James was helpless. Seeing that Harmony wouldn't let him go, he had to give up. If he caused a scene, he would only attract more attention from Maria.

He sighed and resigned to his fate. He stopped resisting and sat quietly in a corner, pretending to read a magazine to cover his face, hiding behind the crowd as much as possible to avoid Maria's gaze.

Had he known Maria was here, he wouldn't have come with Michael at all.

On Maria's side, she hadn't noticed that James had recognized her and was trying hard to avoid her. She was already feeling a bit impatient about not seeing James.

Several more young talents went up, no longer limited to telling jokes but even making funny gestures, like imitating animals. They used all their skills, but Maria remained unmoved. Not only did she not laugh, she didn't even blink, like a statue.

Her reaction dealt a heavy blow to those proud young talents, making them start to doubt their own charm.

Finally, only Jared and Brian were left. They exchanged a glance, seeing the hostility and anxiety in each other's eyes.

"What? Is there no one in Lindwood City who can make Ms. Jackson laugh?" Joe said somewhat dissatisfiedly. "Show your abilities. Display your charm for Lindwood City!"

Upon hearing this, there was a commotion in the audience, but no one dared to go up. Finally, everyone looked at Brian and Jared.

Jared gritted his teeth, ready to go up, but Brian beat him to it.

Brian was downing his glass of red wine in one gulp. He wiped the wine from the corner of his mouth with his left thumb, his movements extremely suave and handsome, drawing the admiration of many women present.

"I'll go," he said with a bright and confident smile, striding towards Maria.

Jared snorted heavily, annoyed that this guy had beaten him to it.

He couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. When the previous competitors went up, he felt nothing, but now that Brian was up there, he felt the pressure. He believed that the biggest threat to him in the entire room was his own brother, Brian.

One had to admit Brian had a talent for performing. After getting on stage, he started telling funny jokes without being vulgar. Coupled with his rich body language, the effect was excellent. Many people were amused; even Roberts smiled knowingly.

But Maria remained as cold as ever, mercilessly saying, "Next."

Seeing so many people laugh at his jokes, Brian felt very proud. He thought he could surely make Maria laugh. But reality soon gave him a heavy slap, making his face burn with embarrassment. His confidence took a massive hit, and his mouth twitched.

Unwilling to give up, he said, "Ms. Jackson, please give me one more chance. I have an even funnier joke..."

"Get down."

Before he could finish, Maria impatiently interrupted him.

Joe waved his hand at him, signaling him to step down.

Brian's breathing became rapid, his body trembling slightly out of control.

He was unwilling, but he had no choice but to obey, feeling cold all over as he obediently stepped down.

Jared was overjoyed. He took the opportunity to mock Brian, patting him on the shoulder and gloating, "You have tried your best, but you can't nail it. When it comes to wooing women, you can't compete with me."

With that, he straightened his back and went up with a look of pride.

Now, all his competitors had been eliminated. Among the unmarried young talents in the room, he was the only one left qualified. If Ms. Jackson really intended to find a husband in Lindwood City, it had to be him.

After going up, he first gave Maria a gentlemanly bow, then was about to start speaking when he saw Maria staring at him intently. Her usually calm eyes showed a look of surprise.

Seeing Maria's reaction, Jared was so excited that he almost jumped up, joy sweeping over him.

'Great, great!

'Indeed, I am the destined husband of Ms. Jackson. Everyone else is trash, including Brian!'

He started celebrating in his mind.

Indeed, more than a dozen young talents had gone up just now and pulled out all the stops, but Ms. Jackson hadn't even blinked, remaining very cold. But when Jared went up, she immediately reacted with a look of surprise, clearly having a good impression of him.

Jared felt he was finally going to stand out. He began fantasy in his mind.

'Harmony, you bitch, haven't you always rejected me, acting all high and mighty? Do you really think I can't live without you?

'What a joke!

'Just wait. Once I become the son-in-law of the Jackson family, my status will be above everyone in Lindwood City, and everyone will have to bow to me! As for the Brown Family, it is the biggest mistake of your lives to refuse the Perry Family's marriage proposal again. I'll make sure the Brown Family ceases to exist.

'And Harmony, you'll be my plaything.

'And James, you trash. Do you think you can rely on Joe forever? I'll make sure you can't live or die peacefully!'

In just a few seconds, Jared had already thought of many scenarios, including how he would be in high spirits in the future, how he would destroy the Brown Family, and how he would humiliate Harmony and torment James.

Others were surprised to see Maria's reaction. They thought  Jared had really struck it lucky, catching Ms. Jackson's eye. He was about to soar to great heights.

At that moment, many guests' thoughts started to become active.

Especially those young talents who had just been eliminated, they were extremely jealous.

Jared took a deep breath, knowing that the more critical the moment, the more he couldn't lose his composure. He quickly calmed himself down and showed what he thought was his most handsome and charming smile, saying to Maria, "Ms. Jackson, hello. My name is Jared. It's an honor..."

Before he could finish, Maria actually stood up with a twinkle in the eye and walked towards Jared.

This made Jared even more excited, almost jumping for joy.

"Damn! Jared actually succeeded. How annoying!"

"What kind of taste does Ms. Jackson have? I'm much more handsome than Jared. Why didn't she choose me?"

"That's really frustrating."

Many people began to complain.

At this moment, Jared was very smug, even thinking about what their children's last names would be.

"Ms. Jackson, your smile is so beautiful, so beautiful!"

Just as Jared was about to continue complimenting her, he noticed that Maria, who was walking towards him, actually bypassed him and continued walking into the crowd.

In an instant, Jared's smug, excited, and thrilled expression froze and turned to visible embarrassment..
