Chapter 167 Bullied by James?
"James! Smith!" Jennifer practically spat out these two names from between her teeth, her eyes shooting daggers. If looks could kill, James would have been dead a thousand times over by now.
James immediately felt a chill down his spine, his muscles tensing up.
"Oh no, I am sorry. That was a big misunderstanding! I wasn't..." James said with utmost seriousness, exuding an air of righteousness.
But despite his words, his actions betrayed him. He hadn't put Jennifer down yet and was still holding her, his hand resting on her butt.
'Who would have thought that such a slender woman like Jennifer would have such a firm backside? It felt really good to hold.' James couldn't help thinking about this.
Just then, someone walked in through the door. They saw this scene and immediately gaped in astonishment.
It was Dennis and Kaitlyn. They had cooked at home and brought the food over for James and Jennifer, only to witness this scene.
Dennis and Kaitlyn exchanged a glance, both breaking into delighted smiles.
'Wonderful, James and Jennifer were finally showing affection in public. It seemed that having children was just around the corner!' They exclaimed inwardly.
Jennifer saw Dennis and Kaitlyn and immediately panicked. She pinched James hard on the waist and gritted her teeth. "Put me down right now."
Caught in the act, James felt embarrassed and quickly set Jennifer down.
Jennifer glared at James fiercely, then turned to Dennis and Kaitlyn to explain, "Dad, Mom, it's not what you think. I accidentally fell off the ladder, and James caught me."
However, the two of them wore expressions full of innuendo, chuckling, "We understand, we understand."
Seeing their expressions, Jennifer became even more flustered. "You really misunderstood!"
"It's fine. Your couple finally got close. Back in the day, your mom and I were doing more crazing stuff. In the second year of our marriage, in the office at work..."
Before Dennis's words finished, Kaitlyn immediately pinched Dennis and scolded him. "What nonsense are you talking about in front of the kids!"
Dennis laughed heartily, took Kaitlyn's hand, and said, "What's the big deal? Besides, Jennifer has been married for five years. What hasn't she experienced? I've heard that young people nowadays have even more tricks to have fun."
Seeing her dad get more outrageous, Jennifer couldn't hold back any longer. She stomped her foot in frustration, "Dad! What are you talking about? If you keep this up, I won't talk to you anymore."
First, she was seen by James, then James took advantage of her, and now she had to hear Dennis's nonsense. Her face was red with embarrassment.
'It was all James's fault!' She thought to herself with anger.
"Alright," Dennis laughed. "All your classmates have kids already, and you're still so shy."
Jennifer felt indignant at his words!
Recently, Dennis and Kaitlyn have become increasingly insistent on Jennifer having a child. They pester her about it daily, especially since James helped Dennis redeem his esteem. Dennis's fixation has escalated to a concerning level.
He went as far as to mention that James was an exceptional man and advised Jennifer to watch him closely to prevent any outsider from luring him away.
Jennifer thought Dennis was crazy. How could he say such things? It couldn't be denied that James had been lucky lately, meeting many important and wealthy people.
But to say that James would be seduced by some vixen was utterly ridiculous. First, James didn't have the guts, and secondly, with such a beautiful wife like her, James would have to be insane to be lured away by another woman.
Jennifer had absolute confidence in herself. Therefore, she didn't take Dennis's words seriously at all, thinking he was worrying unnecessarily.
After dinner, Jennifer continued to busy herself at the clinic for a while. Now, only a few days remained until the official opening. By tomorrow, the storefront would be fully renovated, and then Alan could deliver the medicinal herbs.
On Harmony's side, after receiving James's call, she had been distracted. She couldn't shake James's presence from her mind.
She tried calling back to ask James what he meant by those words. Why would he say such things out of the blue? Did he already know about her unusual feelings for him?
But every time she called, she couldn't get through. It was clear that James had blocked her.
Caught in this mental trap, she didn't even think to use a second number to call him.
When it was time to sleep, she tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. This level of emotional turmoil even surpassed the time when Jared ignored her during her serious illness!
It wasn't until after five in the morning, utterly exhausted, that she finally drifted off into a fitful sleep.
Even then, her sleep was restless. By eight in the morning, she was up again, having slept for less than three hours in total.
Seeing Harmony, with her disheveled hair, tired expression, and faint dark circles under her eyes, walking out into the living room, Michael was taken aback. "Harmony, what's wrong? Didn't you sleep last night?"
Harmony didn't answer him. Instead, she sat down opposite him, her bloodshot eyes staring intently at Michael without saying a word, her face expressionless.
Michael felt a chill down his spine under her gaze. "Harmony, what's going on? Are you ok? Wait, I suddenly remembered something. I'll just go back to..."
"Stop right there," Harmony finally spoke, her tone icy and authoritative, freezing Michael in his tracks.
In the Brown family, Michael feared this sister, who was more than ten years younger than him, the most.
"What is it?" Michael forced a fawning smile, his mind racing. Had he somehow offended Harmony? But no, he had been busy with company matters lately and rarely came home. It was only in the past couple of days that he had some free time to come back and get a good night's sleep.
As Michael fidgeted nervously, Harmony finally said, "When was the last time you contacted James?"
"Huh?" Michael was stunned, not immediately understanding, and looked at Harmony in surprise, "What?"
Harmony, impatient, snapped, "Are you deaf? I asked when you last contacted James. Answer me within three seconds. One, two..."
Michael finally understood and hurriedly said, "It was last week."
"Which day of last week?"
"Th-Thursday!" Michael said.
Harmony fell into deep thought. 'Last Thursday. Today was Wednesday, yes, I am sure, that was six days ago.'
Michael was utterly confused. What was going on with Harmony?
Seeing Harmony with dark circles under her eyes and a haggard look, combined with her current behavior, a thought suddenly struck Michael. Could it be that Harmony had been bullied by James?
So he cautiously asked, "Harmony, did something happen between you and James?"
He didn't dare to be too direct.
Harmony glared at him and said, "That's none of your business."
Michael's heart skipped a beat. Could it really be that James had offended her?
Just as he was about to probe further, Harmony said, "Call James and arrange a meeting with him. Remember, don't mention me."
