Chapter 157: Perhaps There Is One Who Can Heal
Hearing the scream, Alan and Derrick were both startled. They exchanged glances and quickly walked back.
After opening the door, they saw Luna collapsed on the ground, her face pale and bloodless. She clutched herself tightly, her body trembling and her eyes devoid of spirit, giving the impression of being on the brink of death.
"Luna!" Alan cried out in panic, rushing over to hold her. "Luna, what's wrong? Don't scare Daddy."
Luna was very weak, her pallor terrifying. Derrick, who had been a doctor for so long, had never seen such a condition and was momentarily at a loss.
"Daddy, I'm cold, so cold... " Luna's voice was faint and feeble as if she could fade away at any moment. Alan's heart was gripped with anxiety, and he lost his composure, shouting at Derrick in agitation, "Derrick! What's going on? Didn't you say my daughter's condition was improving?"
"I..." Derrick was stunned by Alan's sudden outburst and couldn't utter a coherent word.
Seeing Derrick's reaction, Alan became even more furious. "Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and check on my daughter!"
"Oh! " Derrick snapped back to reality and hurriedly examined Luna. But as soon as he touched her hand, he was shocked.
Her hand was icy cold, and her muscles were not as supple as those of a living person; they were more like those of a corpse.
At this moment, he dared not think of anything else. He quickly calmed down and carefully examined Luna. The more he checked, the more alarmed he became, with cold sweat continuously forming on his forehead. In the end, he was so shocked that he muttered to himself, "How can this be...that's impossible..."
Seeing his reaction, Alan's already tense heart sank into an abyss of despair. "What do you mean impossible? What's wrong with my daughter? Speak up!"
At this moment, other family members in the house also rushed over upon hearing the commotion. Seeing Luna's condition, they were equally shocked and gathered around.
Derrick's mind was in turmoil. In all his years of practice, he had never encountered such a situation. Just an hour ago, he had given the patient acupuncture, and her body was clearly recovering, with her weakened bodily functions gradually improving. How could she deteriorate so quickly?
Moreover, this was Alan's daughter. If anything happened to her, he knew he would be in serious trouble.
"Well, I can't explain it right now. Let's call my grandfather over!" Derrick hurriedly shifted the responsibility to Edwin.
Alan was furious. "Didn't you say you inherited your grandfather's skills and could handle things on your own?"
Derrick's expression was awkward, and he forced a laugh, unable to respond. Those were just his boasts. Even though he had made significant progress in his medical skills recently, he was still far behind Edwin.
Alan could see Derrick's embarrassment, and his impression of Derrick plummeted. Alan said impatiently, "Go get your grandfather! I can't believe you dared to boast without the skills to back it up."
The others present also looked at Derrick with disdain. Derrick forced an awkward smile and quickly called Edwin, briefly explaining the situation.
Edwin was also shocked upon hearing this. Fortunately, he hadn't left Pearl Peak City yet; he would have been on the train in another half hour.
He immediately took a car and rushed over, and arrived at Alan's house in about ten minutes. Without a word, he began examining Luna.
This examination made him break out in cold sweat, his expression extremely grave.
Seeing his expression, Alan's heart sank further, filled with a strong sense of foreboding.
"Mr. Wheeler, what's the situation? Is my daughter okay? Will she be alright?" Alan placed all his hopes on Edwin. He knew Edwin's skills, and if Edwin couldn't cure her, his daughter would certainly die.
The thought of it made his body tremble uncontrollably.
Edwin sighed and said, "The situation is not very optimistic. Your daughter's pulse is erratic, and her bodily functions are deteriorating. It doesn't make sense; with the nourishment of the premium Reishi mushroom, how could this happen?"
Alan clenched his fists, staring intently at Edwin, his voice trembling slightly. "Mr. Wheeler, be honest with me. Is there still hope for my daughter?"
"Well..." Edwin hesitated and said, "It's hard to say right now. I'll do my best."
Upon hearing this, Alan's eyes immediately reddened, and he swayed before sitting weakly on the bed. His wife couldn't hold back her tears, tightly hugging Luna, heartbroken.
Edwin continued to check Luna's pulse, his frown deepening. He muttered twice that something was wrong and then asked Alan, "Mr. Jordan, did you prepare the medicine according to the proportions I gave you yesterday?"
Alan nodded firmly, indicating that he had strictly followed Edwin's instructions.
"Mr. Wheeler, could there be an issue missed by you? Is it possible that the premium Reishi mushroom can't cure my daughter's illness?" Alan suddenly recalled what James had said.
Edwin hesitated for a moment, then gently shook his head, saying, "That shouldn't be the reason."
He then asked Derrick, "Derrick, tell me, how did you administer the acupuncture? Which points did you target?"
Unexpectedly, upon hearing Edwin's question, Derrick broke out in a cold sweat. His gaze was evasive, and he was unable to look Edwin in the eye. He stammered and dodged the question.
Seeing Derrick's demeanor, Edwin's expression changed immediately. He scolded, "Derrick! Tell me the truth. Did you disregard my instructions and act on your own again?"
Hearing Edwin's scolding, Derrick trembled with fear. His legs gave way as he knelt before Edwin, and then he slapped himself on both cheeks.
"Grandpa, I was wrong! I shouldn't have acted on my own and targeted different acupuncture points," he confided.
"What?" Edwin was furious, kicking Derrick in the shoulder and knocking him over. "You wretch! You're endangering lives!"
Alan and the others were stunned at first, then erupted in anger.
"Fuck you!" Alan shouted, pointing at Derrick, his body shaking with rage. If it weren't for Edwin's presence, he would have beaten Derrick right then and there.
Derrick, unwilling to accept the blame, argued, "Grandpa, I meant well! Besides, the points I targeted were beneficial to the patient's condition. How could it worsen her condition? This has nothing to do with me... ouch!"
Before he could finish, Edwin kicked him over again. "You wretch, how dare you talk back! On your knees!"
It was clear that Edwin was genuinely angry. Derrick shivered, not daring to argue further, and obediently knelt.
Edwin turned and bowed deeply to Alan and the others, apologizing, "Everyone, it's my failure in disciplining my own grandson that has harmed Luna. I am deeply ashamed."
Alan, filled with anger, saw Edwin's remorseful expression and couldn't vent his frustration. He sighed heavily, tears welling in his eyes. "Mr. Wheeler, do you have any other way to cure my daughter? I'm willing to pay any price!"
Edwin shook his head bitterly, feeling helpless.
Suddenly, a person came to his mind.
If it were him, he might have a way to cure Alan's daughter.
Recalling the young man's miraculous acupuncture skills, Edwin had a glimmer of hope and said, "There is one person who might be able to cure your daughter."
"Who? I'll bring him here immediately!" Alan's eyes lit up.
