Chapter 123: Going Too Far
Dominic forced a dry smile and said awkwardly, "Mr. Edwards, James is not a doctor at our hospital, and we don't have his contact."
At this moment, Dominic wished he could slap himself. He regretted it deeply. If he had known that it was James who cured Brandon, he would never have dared to fire Jennifer!
But who could have guessed that James cured Brandon? He even didn't have a medical license!
"What? Dr. Smith isn't from your hospital? Then how was he able to enter the operating room to treat my dad?" Herman immediately frowned.
"Well, um..." Dominic didn't know what to say. "I'm not really sure. Maybe Dr. Johnson brought him in."
A nearby department head suddenly said, "I remember now. Dr. Johnson did come out midway, and shortly after, she brought a doctor in. James must have gone in at that time!"
Hearing this, everyone suddenly understood the whole story.
Brandon sighed. "He took such a big risk to save me and left without saying a word. I have even more reason to be grateful to Dr. Smith. We don't see that kind of selflessness much these days."
Dominic and the others were filled with regret, wishing they could turn back time and convince James and Jennifer to stay.
At the same time, they were furious with Eugene. That damned guy had caused them so much trouble!
Herman said, "Why not get in touch with Dr. Johnson and ask her to bring Dr. Smith over?"
Dominic looked even more troubled. "Mr. Watson, Dr. Johnson resigned today and is not at the hospital."
"Director Collins, why don't you call Dr. Johnson and ask her and James to come to the hospital?" a department head suggested.
Left with no other choice, Dominic sighed, took out his phone, and called Jennifer. However, as soon as the call connected, it was hung up. Dominic's expression turned awkward, and he quickly dialed again. It connected but was hung up again. Dominic's forehead was sweating profusely as he felt the pressure from Brandon and Herman. He even prayed that she would answer the phone.
Finally, on the third call, Jennifer answered.
Dominic was overjoyed and quickly said, "Dr. Johnson, this is Director Collins. I called you to tell you that today's incident was my fault. Could you and James come to the hospital now? We have an urgent matter to discuss with you."
However, before he could finish, Jennifer's cold voice came through. "No." Then she hung up.
"Dr. Johnson won't come," Dominic said cautiously.
Brandon stared at him coldly. "Director Collins, I don't care what you have to do, but you must find Dr. Smith. Otherwise, there is no need for you to be the director."
Upon hearing this, Dominic's whole body trembled, and his phone fell to the ground. He was on the verge of tears.
Meanwhile, James and Jennifer had just returned home. Seeing Jennifer's troubled expression, James asked, "Who was on the phone?"
Jennifer rubbed her temples, looking a bit tired. "It was Dominic."
James smiled slightly. "He wants us to go back to the hospital, right?"
"How did you know?" Jennifer was a bit surprised.
'Based on the timing, Brandon should be awake by now. Dominic calling Jennifer indicates that Eugene has been dealt with by Brandon and received the punishment he deserved,' James thought to himself.
James felt relieved, thinking that Brandon was a grateful person, making all his efforts to cure him worthwhile.
James shared his guess with Jennifer, expecting her admiration. To his surprise, Jennifer said, "No way. Mr. Edwards was given anesthesia before the surgery; it will take a few hours for him to regain consciousness. There's no way he could have heard our conversation."
That should have been the case, but James had anticipated this anesthesia condition. So, when he went in, he used a special method to awaken Brandon's consciousness, allowing him to hear everything.
However, Jennifer didn't believe him, and James didn't bother to explain further. He was sure someone would come looking for him soon, and Jennifer would naturally believe him then.
He was quite looking forward to seeing Jennifer's shocked expression.
At that moment, Jennifer's phone rang again. She thought Dominic was calling and was about to hang up, but the name she saw was her mom, Kaitlyn. She answered the call. "Mom, what's up?"
Kaitlyn's voice immediately came through. "Hey, Jennifer, where are you? Come to the store quickly!"
Jennifer was startled. "What happened? Is something wrong?"
Kaitlyn's voice was filled with anger and helplessness. "It's that bastard Steven Harris! He threatened to smash our store, and when your dad stood up to him, your dad got punched in the face!"
"How could this happen? We're on our way," Jennifer shouted.
Filled with rage, Jennifer hung up the phone and told James, "Something happened with my mom. We need to go there immediately."
James had overheard the conversation and nodded without saying a word. He drove there directly.
Recently, Dennis opened a tea shop on Green Street. Because his prices were lower and the tea quality was better than Steven's, he had taken a lot of Steven's business. Steven held a grudge, often mocking Dennis and spreading false rumors about Dennis's product.
James had heard Dennis mention these issues before, but he didn't expect Steven to be so brazen. Steven not only punched Dennis but also threatened to smash his store, blatantly disregarding the law.
Green Street was not far from James's home, just a ten-minute drive. When they arrived, they saw a group of people blocking Dennis's store, and Dennis had a clear slap mark on his face, looking humiliated and angry.
Dennis and Kaitlyn looked particularly helpless among the crowd.
Seeing this, James immediately felt a surge of anger!
Jennifer's face turned icy as she walked quickly towards them.
"Dennis, I'm warning you, it won't help to call anyone. How dare you sell fake tea products? You better compensate my nephew with twenty thousand, or you can just shut your store down!" a man said coldly.
"Steven! You're lying. I never sold fake tea products. You use fake tea products to frame me!" Dennis shouted angrily, but his small stature made him seem powerless in front of so many people.
"I'm done talking to you. Twenty thousand, will you pay or not? If you don't, we'll smash your store right now!" Steven's attitude was extremely arrogant.
As he finished speaking, the seven or eight burly men behind him stepped forward.
"I dare you!" Jennifer walked in, her tone icy.
