Chapter 162 Tell Me His Name
The slaps were loud and clear, and before long, Jared's face turned red. His handsome features, combined with his sincere and remorseful expression, evoked strong sympathy from all the women present, who even felt a pang of heartache for him.
Harmony didn't expect Jared to resort to this. In her impression, Jared was a proud man who wouldn't easily apologize even if he made a mistake.
But now, Jared was slapping himself in the face?
The scene shocked her, but that was all. Besides shock, she felt nothing else.
Harmony thought meeting Jared again would stir her emotions, but to her surprise, she felt nothing, as if she were meeting a stranger.
Even she couldn't quite understand it. She had once loved Jared so deeply, so how could she have completely let go now?
So now, watching Jared slap himself, she felt no ripples in her heart. Instead, she found Jared somewhat pretentious.
"Jared, you don't need to do this," Harmony sighed.
Jared felt relieved hearing her speak, thinking he had finally moved Harmony.
But on the surface, he still put on a deeply affectionate and remorseful look, his eyes even brimming with tears, full of infatuation. "No! This is my fault. I was too foolish, too weak to stop my family from sending people to break off the engagement, causing you so much pain! I deserve to die, I regret it so much! Harmony, hit me if you want, as long as you can forgive me, I'm willing to do anything for you!"
He deliberately spoke loudly, matching his deeply affectionate expression, so moving that even a cold man would be moved.
Yet, Harmony remained unmoved, finding her own indifference surprising. Was this really her? In the past, she would have softened at Jared’s plea.
Harmony frowned, pondering the reason for her indifference towards Jared.
"Jared, it's over between us. You should give up," Harmony said somewhat helplessly. She looked at Jared calmly, her beautiful eyes devoid of any emotion—neither anger nor resentment, just looking at a stranger.
This look made Jared's heart sink continuously. His hands, hidden under the table, clenched tightly! His breathing became uncontrollably rapid, and a flame of anger gradually rose in his heart.
"Wh? Give me a reason," he struggled to control his emotions.
Harmony didn't care about his thoughts and said, "The reason is that I have no feelings for you anymore."
"Impossible!" Jared shouted, unable to accept this. His greatest confidence lay in his personal charm. Any woman who had been with him would be attracted to his charm. Just like when he first met Harmony, such a cold woman was also conquered by him. He could accept others denying his abilities, but he couldn't accept someone saying they had no feelings for him!
"Believe it or not." Harmony frowned, showing a hint of impatience, and stood to leave.
Jared quickly stopped her, "Who is it? Who dares to steal you?"
His eyes widened, fierce and menacing, staring intently at Harmony, desperate to find the answer.
Harmony said, "I'm leaving. Don't ask me out again."
Jared clenched his fists, his brow furrowing deeply, veins bulging on his neck, and he looked very agitated. "Are you falling in love with anyone else? The man last time?"
He stared intently at Harmony, trying to read the answer from her expression. In fact, when Harmony heard this, her usually indifferent face showed a change, confirming Jared's suspicion, even though she later shook her head in denial.
"What's his name? Tell me!" Jared was furious, and at this moment, he could no longer keep up the pretense; his negative emotions spilled out.
Harmony’s mind involuntarily conjured up James' face, not conventionally handsome, but inexplicably appealing, and the moments of her being treated by him, along with their deeper interactions, especially the incident at the construction site where James faced Orlando with strategic composure. All these made her feel increasingly attracted to him.
But did she really like James?
She dared not think deeply about it, for James was Jennifer's husband, and she didn’t want to interfere in their marriage.
"Ridiculous," Harmony snorted, masking her anxiety with disdain, "Jared, we ended when you ignored me during my most difficult times."
Jared unwillingly explained, "Harmony! How many times do I have to explain for you to believe me? The breakup wasn't my decision. It was my family's unilateral action!"
"Is that so? Since it was your family's decision, and you hate your family so much, why don't you give up the Perry Family inheritance and live as an ordinary person? Can you do that?" Harmony asked with a hint of mockery.
Upon hearing that, Jared was too stunned to speak.
Harmony chuckled, "Can't do it? Then don’t talk about love. All you loved was my beauty and status. I remember your reaction when I told you about my illness. You were disgusted, repulsed, and indifferent. After that, you never came to see me."
"I..." Jared's mouth twitched, unable to deny it.
Harmony scoffed, picked up her bag, and left without looking back at Jared, maintaining her extreme indifference throughout.
"Tell me his name!" Jared said unwillingly.
But Harmony did not answer him and left the café directly.
For a moment, everyone in the café was looking at Jared, some with ridicule and schadenfreude.
Jared slammed his fist on the table, his eyes red with fury. He had never been so humiliated, seething with anger.
"I don't care who he is; if he is the reason that Harmony rejects me, I'll make his life a living hell!" His eyes revealed a strong malice, sending chills down one's spine.
After returning home, he immediately made calls, ordering his men to gather information, willing to spend a fortune to get everything about James as quickly as possible.
That very day, he had the information on his desk. After reading it and grasping all of James's details, he let out a cold laugh, "Fuck, a man with no background dares to compete with me for Harmony?"
He thought for a moment and then started dialing a number.
