Chapter 402 With a Wife Like This, What More Could I Ask For?

Jennifer's lips quivered. Her mind was a mess, totally unable to think straight.

Everything that went down today was way beyond what she expected, even more than she could handle. It all felt so unreal, like she was stuck in some weird dream.

So now, with James firing off questions, she was at a loss for words.

She had planned to find James, clear up the misunderstanding, and even swallow her pride if it meant getting him back. As long as James came back to her, everything would be okay.

But she never saw this coming. James had become the heir to a powerful family, a massive change in status.

This created a huge gap between them. If James stayed, he'd have to give up his heir status and live like an ordinary person with her. But if he went back to the Smith Family, they'd be worlds apart, never to see each other again.

Jennifer bit her lip so hard it almost bled.

Seeing her like this, James sighed and said softly, "Jennifer, you shouldn't have come today."

Jennifer looked up and grabbed James's hand. "Isn't there another way? I just want to be with you; I don't care about titles."

But James gently shook his head, the answer clear as day. Jennifer's face fell, and she was back in that endless struggle.

"James, do you love me?" After what felt like forever, Jennifer asked, her voice shaky with anxiety.

James had asked himself this question a million times, so he answered without a second thought, "Yes, I do love you."

Hearing this, Jennifer closed her eyes, a satisfied smile spreading across her face, even as tears slowly trickled down. But it wasn't a sad smile; it was one of contentment, happiness, and relief.

"I love you too," Jennifer said, gently caressing James's face with tenderness and passion, making James feel completely captivated.

"I'm willing to face any danger with you, share joy and sorrow, live a normal life, have kids, and even betray everyone for you," Jennifer said, her smile serious and sincere.

James felt a warmth spread through his whole body at her words. What more could he possibly ask for with a wife like this? He was deeply moved by Jennifer's love but also felt a pang of guilt. He shouldn't have let things get to this point.

Behind James, Arianwen heard Jennifer's words and saw her deep affection. Her usually emotionless eyes showed a flicker of empathy and envy. How she wished she could express her feelings like Jennifer. But she couldn't; it was like wanting to fly but being unable to.

James said, "So you've made your choice, for me to stay with you, right?"

"No," Jennifer shook her head, her smile growing even as her tears did. "I want you to go back to the Smith Family and be the heir. That's the life you deserve. I'm just a passerby in your life," Jennifer said, her heart shattering into a million pieces, even more painful than when she found out James had signed the divorce papers and left without a word.

Back then, it was Kaitlyn and Dennis who maliciously pushed James away. But now, she was the one pushing him away with her own hands.

At this moment, she finally understood that loving someone deeply wasn't about holding on but letting go so they could find greater happiness.

She loved James so much that she knew what the right choice was. James should spread his wings and soar, not stay by her side and live a life of compromise.

Even if it hurt her a hundred times more than losing her arms. She had to do it because she loved James more than herself. She never thought she could love someone this much, but today, she felt it. Her selflessness even moved Arianwen.

James was speechless. He knew Jennifer loved him but never expected it to be to this extent. After all, six months ago, Jennifer was still very hostile and disgusted with him.

He had been unsure whether to stay or leave. But now, with Jennifer's deep affection, he had his answer.

He cupped Jennifer's face, their eyes meeting, and smiled. "Jennifer, meeting you is the luckiest thing in my life. It has made me understand what it feels like to love someone deeply and be deeply loved."

"You are willing to betray everyone for me, and I am willing to give up everything for you. I don't need any of it. Now, I just want to be with you," James said, filled with passion, making one's blood boil and feeling James's determination.

Jennifer was stunned, staring at James. "James, but if you do this, it will ruin your life. I can't let you do that..." She couldn't finish her sentence because James had already kissed her.

This was their first kiss in five years of marriage. The moment their lips touched, both their bodies trembled. This unprecedented experience turned into sweetness and happiness, sweeping through their entire beings.

Jennifer's body tensed, stiff for a few seconds, then slowly relaxed, immersing herself in James's domineering kiss. She closed her eyes, wrapped her arms around James's neck, and indulged in this long-overdue deep kiss.

James's thoughts raced as he kissed her. Just be impulsive once more, perhaps this was the consequence of his arrogance over the years. He had always been powerful but lost to emotions. Gabriel had warned him not to develop feelings, but he had still disappointed Gabriel. Maybe this is his destiny. The heir status, he thought, he could do without it.
