Chapter 87 Curtis Strikes Back

James rolled his eyes, thinking to himself that Michael was the richest man in Lindwood City, not someone you could just easily call over. Nevertheless, James took out his phone to call Michael.

Seeing his outdated phone, everyone started mocking him. Nowadays, only losers would use such old phones. Rich men all used the latest iPhone models, which cost thousands of dollars.

Initially, when they saw Jennifer looking confident, they were somewhat skeptical. Now, seeing James's old phone, they burst into laughter, thinking that the possibility of James truly knowing Michael was a big joke.

James made the call, but it didn't go through. He furrowed his brow slightly, wondering if he had caught Michael at a bad time.

Jennifer asked in surprise, "Did you get through?"

James shook his head and said, "It seems like Michael is busy; he didn't answer the call."

The group burst into laughter. Joel couldn't resist walking over to taunt, "What, Michael didn't pick up? Why don't you try calling again? Maybe Michael will answer this time."

Somebody scoffed, "Yeah, it's so impressive. Did you think we would believe that you are a friend of the richest man even though you are using such an outdated phone?"

Another sneered, "It's hilarious. Have you forgotten who Michael is? He's the richest man in Lindwood City. This Ql Hotel belongs to Michael. While you on the other hand, you are just a loser, who can't even find a job."

Several guys who had once secretly admired Jennifer taunted James relentlessly, treating him like a worthless shit.

They had done similar things at previous class reunions, mocking James in front of Jennifer and enjoying her angry reactions. It was an entertaining segment for them at the reunions.

So, when James didn't attend the reunions in the past two years, they found it somewhat boring. Now, they were eager to belittle James and have more fun at his expense.

Facing the mockery, James remained unruffled. He had heard worse before and had weathered many storms. He didn't bother a few taunts from these people. After all, he didn't consider them significant to him.

However, Jennifer was furious. She looked displeased and asked James, "I thought you had a good relationship with Michael. Why isn't he answering your calls? Try calling again."

"Okay," James agreed and immediately dialed Michael's number again.
But just like before, the call rang and was left unanswered.

"How is it? Still no answer from Michael?" Jennifer asked anxiously.

James shook his head, feeling a bit frustrated. Michael used to answer his calls quickly, so why wasn't he picking up now? Was he busy or sleeping?

Jennifer felt disappointed and somewhat annoyed. She said, "Did you offend Michael? Why isn't he answering your calls?"

"I didn't offend him," James replied with a wry smile. "Maybe he's just busy."

"What do we do now? We're going to become a laughingstock," Jennifer said with a bitter expression.

James couldn't think of a better solution at that moment.

"How about it, still no luck?" Joel asked while he held his glass, gloated, looking quite pleased with the situation.

Someone chimed in, "Of course, Michael won't answer. I bet he deliberately dialed the wrong number, pressing random buttons. Such a liar."

One remarked, mockingly, "Yeah, I thought he turned more decent in these two years, but it turns out he's still the same."

Another added, condescendingly, "Jennifer, I suggest you divorce this kind of person soon. Every random guy in the street will be better than him.

These individuals spoke sarcastically, with some jealous girls seizing the opportunity to unleash increasingly harsh remarks, one after another.

Jennifer couldn't bear this treatment. She immediately felt angry but couldn't express it. 'James just had to embarrass me again. He doesn't have a job nor a prominent social status, and now, even the supposed connection with Michael had failed,' she thought bitterly.

She felt extremely frustrated.

Suddenly, someone exclaimed in surprise, "Such a surprise, Curtis is here!"

Everyone turned back and saw Curtis, dressed in a suit, walking in with a few others.

Tonight, Curtis exuded charm and sophistication, a stark contrast to his irritable demeanor earlier. With his tall, handsome figure, warm smile, and elegant attire, he immediately captivated many female classmates' eyes.

Someone asked, bewildered, "Wow, it's Curtis, a senior from our school days. Why is he here?"

Another remarked in admiration, "Curtis, the senior, is so handsome! He was the most handsome man on campus back in the day. I heard he went abroad for further studies these years, and from the looks of the gorgeous attire that he's wearing, he must have made a fortune."

One of the female classmates wondered, "I wonder if Curtis is married? A man as outstanding as him would be my perfect match."

Another female classmate teased, "Give it a rest. A man as excellent as Curtis wouldn't even look at you."

One of the female classmates from earlier agreed, "That's true...He is out of my league."

Curtis's arrival shifted everyone's attention to him, starting to make conversations.

Jennifer frowned, feeling inexplicably anxious. Why was Curtis here? He was one year senior to them and shouldn't be attending their class reunion.

James didn't find it strange. Curtis had a score to settle with him from earlier, and it was no surprise he showed up at the reunion to take revenge.

Jennifer grabbed James's hand and said, "This reunion just sucked. Let's go back."

But before they could leave, Curtis approached them. He greeted, "Jennifer, we meet again."

Jennifer frowned and asked coldly, "Curtis, you're not from our class. Why are you here"

Curtis showed no signs of anger. Instead, he looked apologetic and sincere. He spoke gently, "Jennifer, I'm sorry for what happened today. I was too impulsive, and I apologize to you."

His expression was earnest, combined with his handsome face, making a strong impression. It made many female students envy Jennifer.

After returning home the previous day, Curtis rethought his actions. He realized he had been irrational and had upset Jennifer. Therefore, he decided to attend the class reunion to make amends and show Jennifer his better side. With his personal charm, composure, and elegance, he aimed to win Jennifer's favor back.

As for James, Curtis truly didn't care about him. In his eyes, James was just a useless man with some physical strength. As long as he won Jennifer's heart back, James was of no concern to him.
