Chapter 290 An Extremely Dangerous Woman!
Dennis stomped his foot in anger.
Kaitlyn sighed beside him, "I guessed Jennifer would be upset, but I didn't expect her reaction to be so intense."
"So what do we do? Are we just going to let Jennifer be like this?" Dennis said, feeling a bit troubled.
Kaitlyn shook her head, her gaze firm. "Absolutely not. Jennifer's twenty-six, Dennis. She needs to act quickly. Right now, even divorced, she's still a catch. But if she waits too long… she'll be the one being chosen, not the one choosing. We can't let that happen."
"But she won't listen to reason. We can't exactly force her." Dennis said, his voice laced with helplessness.
A shrewd glint entered Kaitlyn's eyes. "Since Jennifer won't listen to us, we'll have to persuade James. Given James' personality, as long as we lower our stance a bit and talk to him nicely, he should understand."
"That's the only way." Dennis sighed deeply. "It's just… such a shame. He was a good lad."
On Jennifer's side, she returned to the hospital room and saw James sleeping soundly, which warmed her heart considerably.
She gently sat beside James and tenderly pulled the blanket up a bit to prevent him from catching a cold. Looking at James' completely ruined face, her heart still ached.
She was also a doctor and knew very well that burns of James' severity were impossible to cure. No matter how advanced plastic surgery was, it was powerless.
The more she thought of James' dire conditions, the more her resolution to stay with him grew stronger.
Closing her eyes, all she could see were scenes of James' sacrifices for her. Over the past five years, James' repeated tolerance and help played in her mind like a movie.
She used to resent this marriage and despise James. In the past, she only saw him as an incompetent man.
It wasn't until later, after all the sacrifices James had made for her and her family, that she started to accept him. She gradually valued him as a decent and dutiful husband.
James proved himself with his heroic actions and won her heart.
Especially through this incident, she fully understood that she had fallen deeply in love with James. No matter what James became, she was willing to stay with him.
Jennifer reached out and gently touched James' face.
Even though she had seen it all day and accepted the fact of James' disfigurement, touching these hideous scars with her own hands still made her heart ache like being pricked by needles!
She didn't care what James looked like; she just felt heartbroken for the immense pain he had endured and the humiliation he would face in the future.
James was very sleepy. Jennifer had barely touched him when he woke up and opened his eyes.
Jennifer immediately withdrew her hand. "Sorry, did I wake you?"
"It's okay, I've slept enough. Why are your eyes so red? Have you been crying again?" James said, frowning.
Jennifer hurriedly wiped her eyes and said, "No, my eyes are just a bit dry, that's all."
But her poor acting betrayed her.
James gently held her hand and smiled. "You don't need to worry about me. I am built differently; I'll recover soon."
However, hearing this made Jennifer's eyes even redder. She turned her gaze away, "Really? That would be wonderful."
Jennifer felt even more heartache.
James knew what Jennifer was thinking and felt helpless. He was about to say something else when he suddenly sensed something. His body tensed, and his eyes sharpened.
Fortunately, Jennifer was looking the other way and didn't see his unusual expression.
"Jennifer, I'm a bit hungry. Could you go to the cafeteria and get me some food?" James returned to normal the next second and said with a smile.
Jennifer was taken aback and asked, "Didn't you just eat two hours ago?"
"Yes, but I'm hungry again," James said with a bitter smile.
"Alright, I'll go get it now." Jennifer stood up, picked up her bag, and was about to leave when James called her, "Jennifer."
"What's up?"
"Thank you," James said, looking at her seriously.
Jennifer felt guilty and then gave a bright smile, "Silly, you've done so much for me before. I'm just getting you some food. There's no need to thank me."
With that, she left.
"Come out."
A few seconds after Jennifer left, James said calmly.
As his words fell, a woman dressed entirely in black, carrying a long sword, emerged from an inconspicuous corner.
This woman had an extremely slender figure, with long, thin, and straight legs that were better than those of the world's top models.
In addition, her waist was very slim. Wearing a tight black outfit, she looked like a grim reaper emerging from the shadows, silent and ghostly, like a wisp of black mist.
In stark contrast to her clothes was her skin, which was very white!
Moreover, she was extremely beautiful.
She was beautiful and very pale, but her face showed no expression. As she approached James, her countenance remained impassive and unaltered, akin to a living effigy, which imparted a sense of apprehension.
An aura of danger clung to her, a palpable sense of menace that sent chills down the spine. It was like standing in the path of a gathering storm, the air thick with potential violence.
Uriah, James knew, would have been terrified.
And yet, this dangerous, ethereal creature stopped before him and bowed low, her voice a soft murmur. "Master."
