Chapter 284 Evil Deeds

James quietly looked at her, waiting for her to speak.

After a full half-minute, Jennifer finally spoke, sighing softly. "Actually, Harmony is quite pitiful."

'Pitiful? Harmony?'

James didn't understand Jennifer's thoughts and asked, "Why are you talking about?"

Jennifer didn't answer his question directly but said, "Actually, while you were in a coma, I talked a lot with Harmony."

She sat by James' bed, carefully adjusting his body. "While you were being rescued in the operating room, Harmony told me that if you couldn't survive this time, she'd become a nun. She meant what she said."

She looked up and shot a sorrowful glance at him. "She is my best friend, i can‘t just stand by and watch her doing that."

"And if what will comfort her is your heart, I'd let her have it."

James' mouth slightly opened, and his emotions were turbulent. Jennifer's words were really unexpected! It even overturned his understanding of Jennifer. Jennifer was an individual of conventional values, characterized by her assertiveness, and had never encountered a scenario of such nature before. James didn't even know what words to use to describe it!

"What do you mean, was that a joke?" James asked expressionlessly.

Jennifer didn't answer immediately but gently shook her head, her eyes showing confusion and pain, "I don't know."

James wanted to say something, but at that moment, the door opened, and Harmony came back with the things she had bought, so he had to swallow his words.

"What were you talking about?" Harmony walked in, smiling.

Jennifer stood up from the bed and chuckled. "Nothing much."

Thereafter, the two engaged in a conversation, whereas James remained on the bed with a morose expression, permeated with perplexity. He genuinely failed to comprehend the contemplations of Jennifer.

She wanted to stay with him forever but also said she couldn't bear to see Harmony alone. What did that mean, that both of them should marry him?

Thinking of this, James couldn't help but look at the two of them chatting happily. They were both beauties, absolute stunners wherever they went.

For a moment, James felt his mouth dry and his heart racing, and he was extremely stimulated.

James immediately shook off this wicked thought. It was too unrealistic. Even if he was willing, Jennifer definitely wouldn't be. Even if Jennifer was willing, Harmony definitely wouldn't be. Even if Harmony was willing, their families would absolutely not agree.

Besides, this was a society governed by law; such things were not allowed to happen.

"What are you thinking about?"

Suddenly, a voice sounded in his ear, pulling his thoughts back. He immediately saw a delicate face very close to him.

It was Harmony. She bent over in front of James, smiling at him.

Harmony happened to be wearing loose clothes today, and as she bent over, a large part of her neckline drooped, exposing her bare chest to James and making his eyes go wide.

Following his gaze, Harmony realized her chest was exposed and quickly covered it, feeling very shy, "What are you looking at?!"

Feeling a bit awkward and guilty, he stood up and looked around, but Jenifer was gone. He was slightly stunned and asked, "Where's Jennifer?"

Harmony sat on the edge of the bed, her hip touching him, and flicked her hair. "She went back to rest."

"When did she leave? Why didn't she tell me?" James frowned.

"Who said she didn't tell you? You were so lost in thought just now that you didn't even hear Jennifer talking to you, and you were smiling wickedly." Harmony looked at him strangely.

James immediately got nervous, quickly put on a serious face, and said righteously, "Okay, i got it, But i didn't smile like that, i was just musing."

"I was just saying it casually. Why are you so nervous? Could it be that I guessed right?" Harmony stared at him closely, a sly smile appearing at the corner of her mouth.

Upon being subjected to such direct gaze, James experienced a heightened state of anxiety, eventually resorting to closing his eyes. "Nonsense. I'm tired. You should go back; no need to stay and take care of me."

The room quieted down, and Harmony didn't speak.

He was about to secretly open his eyes to see if Harmony was angry when he heard her soft voice, "Do you still hate me?"

Her tone was filled with loss and sadness, making it heart-wrenching to hear.

James opened his eyes again and saw Harmony's resentful and sad expression. He was silent for a while and then said, "Give it up. I'm your good friend's husband."

Harmony lowered her head, revealing a shy expression.

After about half a minute, she raised her head, her pupils flickering with an inscrutable light, "So what? There is no law forbidding my admiration for you, even if you are married. Besides, Jennifer doesn't mind."

At this point, she stopped, as if she had said too much, feeling a bit guilty.

James caught her unease, his heart racing again. "What did you say?"

Harmony shook her head, avoiding James' gaze.

"Is there something you don't want me to know?" James stared at her and asked. "Did you and Jennifer make some kind of agreement?!"

Given Jennifer's former words, weird thoughts were solided in his mind.

"No way! I don't understand what you're talking about, nonsense. Didn't you say you were tired? Hurry up and rest. The doctor said your body is still very weak and you need plenty of rest to recover quickly." Harmony said seriously. If it weren't for her flickering eyes, James would have almost believed her.

'She and Jennifer must have talked about this, and they probably made some kind of agreement!' he thought to himself.

James really wanted to ask what they had talked about in the past two days, but Harmony wouldn't say.

James was indeed tired. His body was severely damaged, and his internal energy was automatically helping to repair it, so he needed more rest. He had just woken up and was already very tired, so he simply fell asleep.

When he woke up again, it was already evening. The room was crowded with people, not just Dennis and Kaitlyn, but also Michael and Atticus, several teachers, the families of the seven children, many enthusiastic citizens, and even three TV reporters, filling the room to the brim.
