Chapter 344 Grandpa Walter in Critical Condition

James totally knew what was running through Emberlyn's mind. If this was back in the day, he wouldn't have put up with Walter's crap and would've definitely put him in his place.

Back then, he was fearless and couldn't stand any disrespect. But now, James was totally different. He'd grown up a lot, inside and out. When Walter tried to get under his skin, he just found it laughable and not worth his time.

"What's the point of a duel?" James said, sounding annoyed.

Emberlyn chimed in, "He's trying to get a rise out of you, looking down on you. Shouldn't you just knock him out?"

"So childish," James replied. "Me dueling him is like an adult picking on a kid. If a kindergartener talks smack, would you fight him?" James continued.

Emberlyn was taken aback for a second by James' words. Then it clicked. "Yeah, Walter's not even in your league. Fighting him is like picking on a kid," she said.

She then cupped her face with both hands, looking at James with stars in her eyes. "James, your mindset is on another level, you're so cool. James, you're so handsome, I love you so much," Emberlyn gushed.

Walter, on the other hand, was losing it. His anger was boiling over, completely clouding his judgment. He was about to charge at James and throw hands. He'd never been so humiliated, and with his short fuse, he was ready to blow.

But just as he was about to make a move, one of his bodyguards rushed over, grabbing him and speaking urgently, "Walter, something's up. We need to go back now."

"No, let go of me. I'm gonna beat this jerk to a pulp today," Walter growled, veins popping out of his neck, making him look even more menacing.

The bodyguard raised his voice, "Vincent just called. Derek's condition has gotten worse. You need to go back now."

"What?" Walter froze. He stopped in his tracks, grabbing the bodyguard's shoulder tightly, and asked frantically, "What did Vincent say? How's my grandpa? Aren't Edwin and the others taking care of him?"

The bodyguard struggled to explain, "I don't know the details. Vincent just said you need to go back immediately. From Vincent's tone, Derek's condition might be really bad."

Hearing this, Walter felt a sharp pain, gritted his teeth, and shot a bitter glance on James, frowning in thought. After muttering a curse, he hurried off.

His sudden decision left everyone momentarily stunned, including Keith and Ivan. They were also taken aback, then they shot a deep look at James, memorizing his face, and caught up with Walter.

With Emberlyn around, they didn't dare mess with James. They'd wait for another chance to grab James and bring him to Walter for a reward.

Emberlyn was kinda bummed and said, "Walter really is a moron, leaving like that. So lame."

She'd been hoping James would step up and put that cocky Walter in his place. It'd been ages since she'd seen James throw down. She couldn't stand Walter and really wanted James to knock him down a peg.

"James, what's in your mind?" Emberlyn asked, noticing James staring off where Walter had disappeared.

James snapped out of it and asked, "Emberlyn, did Walter come to Lindwood City with his family this time?"

Emberlyn looked surprised, "How'd you know? Yeah, Walter came with Derek."

"Just a hunch." James smirked, not giving away much.

Judging from the chat between Walter and his bodyguard, and remembering when Edwin called him to treat some big shot, James had already pieced it together. That big shot was definitely Walter's grandpa. Now that he was seriously ill, Walter had to rush back. This was getting interesting.

If even Edwin and the other top docs couldn't fix Walter's grandpa, it meant his condition was really bad. He'd probably been to all the big hospitals and even gone abroad, but nothing worked.

In this case, in the whole Serenity Province, only James could save Walter's grandpa. And Walter just happened to hate him.

James was sure Edwin would be calling him for help soon, which meant he'd see Walter again. He was suddenly curious about what Walter's face would look like when they met again.

"Emberlyn, have you ever met Walter's grandpa?" James asked, curious.

Emberlyn replied, "Yeah, once. He's a pretty decent old gentleman, very upright."

"I see," James nodded, filing that info away.

Soon, the waiter started bringing out dishes, all super fancy. For regular folks, they'd be way too pricey, but not for Emberlyn.

The earlier drama hadn't killed James' vibe. He was starving and dug in with a good appetite, which surprised Theodore and the driver.

As for Walter, he and his bodyguard bolted out of the restaurant, racing to his grandpa.

What should've been a half-hour drive took only fifteen minutes as they sped and blew through red lights.

"Vincent, how's my grandpa?" Walter blurted out as soon as he got home.

Vincent, Derek's butler for nearly thirty years, had red-rimmed eyes and a face full of sorrow. He said weakly, "Walter, you should go in and see for yourself."

Walter's heart sank, his face going pale and his teeth clenching. He took a deep breath and braced himself to go in.

Vincent then added, "Walter, be respectful when you go in. Don't upset Derek."

"Got it." Walter felt even more anxious and sad hearing this. He nodded heavily and then carefully walked in.
