Chapter 107: Accident at the Construction Site

Before going to bed that night, James hesitated for a moment. He was contemplating whether to send Michael a message to remind him not to start work the next day. But then he thought, given Michael's attitude towards him today, it was clear that Michael wouldn't believe him. Even if he had sent the message, Michael probably wouldn't have taken it seriously, so he dismissed the idea.
Besides, he had already told Harmony the specifics, and he believed Harmony would have relayed the information to Michael immediately. If Michael insisted on proceeding, he couldn't change his mind.
Early the next morning, Michael sent people to start work at the construction site. For once, he didn't suffer from insomnia and slept soundly through the night, waking up to broad daylight.
He had absolute confidence in Orlando and thought James was talking nonsense.
He had been extremely tired the past few days, and today, feeling relaxed, he unusually overslept until nine o'clock. He woke up, lay on the couch, leisurely read the newspaper, and sipped his morning tea. Just as he was about to call the construction site to check on things, his phone rang. It was a call from the foreman, Rex Ingram.
"Hi, Rex. Is there any good news..." he asked casually.
Before the sentence was finished, Rex's terrified voice came through the phone. "Mr. Brown! No, something terrible has happened! Something very terrible!"
Michael was startled by the sudden outburst. His hand shook, spilling hot milk on his pants and making him jump up.
But he couldn't care less about his pants and urgently asked Rex, "What are you saying? What happened?"
Rex gulped hard, his voice trembling. "Someone's dead! Someone's dead! Mr. Brown, you need to come over and see for yourself. I think Mr. Wolf didn't resolve the issue yesterday. Today's accidents are even more bizarre than before..."
Michael's face turned pale, and his scalp tingled after hearing this. He couldn't bother with breakfast anymore and hurriedly changed his clothes to leave.
At that moment, Harmony came out of the room and saw him in a flustered state. She asked rashly, "What happened?"
"There's trouble! Someone died at the construction site. I have to handle it," Michael said with a frown, unable to help but complain. "Didn't Mr. Wolf say he had driven away all the evil spirits? How could this still happen?"
Harmony was stunned for a moment and immediately thought of what James had said yesterday. "James was right. Mr. Wolf is a fraud that has made things worse. Michael, I told you to trust James. Why didn't you…"
Michael was also full of regret, feeling bitter and agitated. "Alright, what's the point of accusing me now? We need to find a way to fix this."
When he rushed to the construction site, he indeed saw a lifeless worker lying on the ground, with a steel rod piercing through the worker's chest, looking extremely horrifying.
"What happened?" he asked with a frown.
Rex, pale and gasping for breath, still shaken, said, "Our crew came to work today, and all the equipment was fine. Everything was going smoothly at first, but after a while, this man suddenly screamed and fell from the scaffolding, getting impaled by the steel rod on the ground."
The others also looked terrified, expressing their fear.
"Yeah, he's an experienced worker, very cautious by nature. He's been in the industry for twenty years and has never had an accident."
"It's definitely the evil spirits here that killed him!"
"I think Mr. Wolf didn't get rid of the evil energy at all yesterday."
"Not only did he not get rid of it, but it's also even worse and more bizarre than a few days ago. Haven't you noticed that while we were working, it always feels like someone is blowing on your neck?"
"Holy crap! So, do you guys also feel that? I thought it was just me hallucinating because I stayed up too late last night! It really is evil spirits, this is too terrifying! No way, I can't keep working here. There are definitely evil spirits, and if I stay here, I may be the next to die."
"Yeah, I don't want to work here anymore either. Mr. Ingram, I'm quitting. Please settle my remaining wages."
As these voices rose, more and more workers became scared and expressed their desire to quit on the spot.
Rex didn't know how to comfort these workers and only looked to Michael for help. "Mr. Brown, what should we do?"
Michael was also unsettled. He had been in business for so long and had never encountered such a bizarre situation, and for a moment, he lost his composure.
At this point, a subordinate nearby suggested, "Mr. Brown, why not call Mr. Wolf and have him come over to handle it?"
"Exactly!" Michael's eyes lit up as he hurriedly called Orlando, "Mr. Wolf, there's been an incident at the construction site... Please come over right away."
Before long, Orlando and his team rushed over. He was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday. But as soon as he approached the construction site and sensed the thick aura of evil spirits, his expression changed instantly.
"What's going on? Didn't I suppress this evil energy yesterday?" Orlando was shocked.
Feeling the more intense evil energy, he was somewhat fearful, and an inexplicable airflow kept blowing towards him. If it weren't for the large sum of money Michael still owed him, he would have turned and run.
For the remaining fifty million dollars, Orlando gritted his teeth, took out a stack of yellow talismans from his pocket, chanted incantations, and stuck them on himself. Holding a wooden sword, he walked in as if facing a formidable enemy.
His two apprentices, who hadn't sensed the terrifying evil energy and hadn't taken any precautions, were curious about why the usually arrogant Orlando was being so cautious.
"Mr. Wolf, it's great that you're here." Michael grabbed Orlando's hand and urgently said, "Didn't you say you had already suppressed the evil energy? How could this still happen? And someone even died. Mr. Wolf, you must take the responsibility."
Orlando, displeased with Michael's attitude, frowned and said, "Are you blaming me?"
Michael, intimidated by his glare, softened his tone. "I'm not blaming you, but if you don't help me resolve this, you cannot get the fifty million dollars."
Orlando snorted in dissatisfaction but said nothing more. He instructed his two apprentices to set up an altar and prepare to perform a ritual.
However, just as he began the ceremony, a sudden strong wind blew a bucket of cement from the scaffolding above, hitting one of his apprentices on the head.
With a loud thud, the apprentice was knocked unconscious, bleeding profusely from the head.
This sudden turn of events shocked everyone present, and Orlando trembled all over, his face showing a look of fear.
