Chapter 642 The Outbreak of the Great War 2
Deep in the forest, a third-tier warrior from the National Security Agency was covered in blood, his steps faltering slightly. But his eyes remained bright and determined.
"Fred, take a break. We'll cover you for a while!"
Fred Porter was the squad leader, and the one speaking was Seth, the squad's deputy leader. Just moments ago, Fred had fought fiercely alongside his teammates against two third-tier enemies to save them. Now, Fred was gravely injured, but he still stood with his team.
"Captain, you need to rest!"
"Yeah, we're not cowards. Even if we die, we'll take them down with us!"
The team members shouted as they fended off the enemies from the western division. Fred grinned and said, "You're right, guys. Our National Security Agency's Thirteenth Squad has no cowards. I'll fight with you to the end! Charge!"
Fred raised his blade and led his team in another assault, tearing through the chaotic battlefield. Their actions quickly drew the attention of several skilled fighters from the western division, who rushed towards them.
The battle was bloody and brutal, with deaths occurring constantly across the territories of the four divisions. Compared to the western division, the allied forces of the other three divisions faced much less pressure, as their strength was inferior to the western division. The western division's leader, who even Sidney and Ron, two mid-tier fourth-level experts, couldn't stop, was terrifyingly powerful.
The western division leader exuded a chilling killing intent, with blood-red Qi swirling around him like a mist. Sidney, however, focused not on the blood-red Qi but on the leader's face.
The face was completely twisted and deformed, clearly the result of severe burns. As an elite of the National Security Agency, Sidney could tell the immense pain the person had endured.
But that wasn't the most important thing. What mattered was that Sidney suddenly thought of someone he knew very well.
Sidney's eyes reddened as he shouted, "Who are you?"
The western division leader's grotesque face twisted into a smile. Sidney was shocked when he saw the familiar smile. "Elton?"
The name Elton might not mean much to most people now, but to someone like Sidney, it was unforgettable. Elton had been a member of the National Security Agency, and not just any member—he was an elite among elites.
Though he was only a squad leader back then, he could kill fourth-tier enemies at his third-tier peak, earning countless battle honors. Sidney had been in Elton's squad and admired the legendary figure greatly.
During the National Security Agency's siege of the Godslayer Organization, Elton's squad was ambushed. Elton fought desperately to allow his team to escape, and Sidney saw Elton being surrounded and set ablaze by the ruthless enemies. The entire National Security Agency mourned Elton's death, awarding him the highest honors and treating his family with great respect. Sidney was deeply affected by Elton's death and harbored intense hatred for the Godslayer Organization.
But now, the supposedly dead Elton stood before him, unrecognizable but unmistakably Elton. Yet, Elton had become the leader of the western division of the Godslayer Organization.
"No, it can't be you. Elton hated the Godslayer Organization. He wouldn't do this!"
Sidney shouted in disbelief, while the western division leader's smile grew wider. In a raspy voice, he said, "I never expected anyone to recognize me after all these years. And I didn't expect a former subordinate to hold me off for so long!"
Sidney froze, then collapsed weakly to the ground. "You really are Elton?"
The western division leader remained silent. Sidney looked up and asked, "If you're Elton, why are you doing this? Why did you become the leader of the western division? Why?"
Sidney's voice was filled with anguish, his eyes wide with disbelief. Elton, however, was indifferent. "In memory of old times, I won't kill you. But don't try to stop me. Have you ever experienced true despair?"
"When you're in despair, you'll grasp at any glimmer of hope, whether it's light or darkness. Later, I realized that Sunlandia and the National Security Agency are just jokes. Before the King, you're all ants. The siege of the King was a foolish decision."
Sidney was stunned, realizing that the Elton before him was no longer the Elton he once knew. He was now the enemy, the leader of the western division of the Godslayer Organization.
With this realization, Sidney slowly stood up, his eyes fixed on Elton. Gathering the remaining Qi in his body, he said, "If you're no longer the Elton I knew, then you'll have to go through me to kill James!"
Elton's smile widened. "As you wish."
Just then, a low humming sound echoed. Both Sidney and Elton turned their eyes towards the source, where James was seated.
James, still sitting cross-legged in front of the stone door, had blood-red eyes. One hand moved inside the door, seemingly tracing something. The humming sound came from within the stone door.
"Is James about to unlock the stone door?"
Sidney was overjoyed, while Elton was equally alarmed. Despite the increasing killing intent, Elton's smile remained.
As Sidney rejoiced, a cold voice interrupted, "You delayed me long enough. I didn't expect him to almost unlock the stone door. Damn it!"
Elton's words snapped Sidney back to reality. Realizing the danger, he quickly turned and positioned himself in front of James again.
