Chapter 373 Provocation and Response
If the intruders were from Sunlandia, the coaches and members wouldn't be so worked up. The kicker was, they were from Skylantis. Those two countries had beef for ages, and Skylantis folks were always so damn cocky in Sunlandia folks' eyes.
Especially Walter, whose gaze was the most frigid. He had already disregarded James, who stood among the onlookers, fixating intently on the five karate experts with palpable hostility.
Walter came from a military family, and his grandpa Derek had seen real combat. His patriotism was off the charts compared to regular folks.
But he wasn't about to do something stupid. He just kept glaring at them because he could tell those five karate guys were no joke. They gave off a dangerous vibe.
The coaches, egged on by the crowd, started getting antsy, too. They stepped forward, adding more pressure on the karate guys.
They weren't dumb, though. First off, those guys were international guests, and starting a fight would be a mess. Second, the karate dudes were just talking smack; they hadn't thrown any punches yet. They had to keep their cool.
One of the more chill coaches said, "Judging by your outfits, you guys do karate. I don't know where you get the nerve to come to our Iron Fist Boxing Club and challenge us. Even without our head coach, you guys don't stand a chance. I'll give you a shot to apologize for dissing our head coach, and we'll let it slide."
However, one of the Skylantis karate guys sneered, "Apologize? You Sunlandians are all about saving face and never admit when you're wrong. Listen up, your head coach is a joke, a pussy. We're here to expose the fake rep of your Iron Fist Boxing Club and show everyone the truth. Only karate is the real deal in martial arts."
He said it loud and clear, dripping with disdain, irritating everyone in Skaylantis.
The crowd was already fuming. Even James frowned hearing that. 'Where do these Skylantis punks get off, causing trouble in Sunlandia? Do they really think we don't have any experts here?' James thought.
But thinking it over, if he wasn't here today, these coaches really wouldn't stand a chance and would get wrecked. Even Walter would lose if he stepped up.
James wasn't in a rush to jump in. He wanted to see what these five Skylantis guys were planning.
"Bastards!" A coach yelled out, pissed off.
Others were just as mad, surrounding the five Skylantis guys, glaring daggers at them.
"They're so full of themselves. Do they even know where they are, acting all high and mighty?" Someone from the crowd shouted.
"Why be nice to them? These five idiots need a good beating," another person said angrily.
"Aren't they here to challenge us? Fine, let them. We'll show them what Sunlandia's made of," someone else chimed in, fired up.
"This is infuriating!" The crowd roared.
There were at least a few hundred people there. Normally, that kind of crowd would freak most people out. But these five Skylantis guys didn't even flinch. Instead, they exchanged smug looks, grinning like their plan was working perfectly.
James knew these guys had a plan to mess with the club. 'This is horseshit. Do they really think Sunlandia's got no one to stand up?' he thought.
Walter couldn't hold it in anymore. He stepped up and shouted, "You punks, coming here to stir up trouble in Sunlandia? Fine, you wanna challenge us? I’m game!"
He had a hot temper and didn't hold back on the cursing.
His move made the five karate dudes' eyes light up a bit, surprised to see someone like him here.
But that was it. Walter was strong, sure, but compared to them, he was still lacking, especially the guy in the middle, who was super cocky. He just glanced at Walter, shook his head, and looked disappointed.
"You're so weak," the same Skylantis guy said, pointing at Walter and shaking his finger.
Walter got even more pissed and was about to throw down, but a coach next to him pulled him back. "Walter, we got this. You don’t need to step in."
Then the coach stepped forward and said to the Skylantis guy, "Since you wanna challenge us, we accept. But let's get one thing straight. You gotta sign a contract. If you get hurt, it's on you. We’re not responsible."
This coach was smart, thinking ahead. These guys were their citizens, and who knew what kind of backup they had. If they got hurt and tried to sue, it’d be a mess.
James, hanging back in the crowd, nodded in approval.
But for him, those rules didn’t matter. If he decided to take these Skylantis guys down, nothing would happen to him.
For now, he decided to watch and wait. Even though one of them was a martial artist, their skill was basic, just a newbie in inner energy, nowhere near his level.
To him, this Skylantis martial artist was no different from Walter—both were trash.
"Afraid I'll sue you? How laughable!" the Skylantis guy sneered, full of disdain.
The coach ignored the mockery and quickly got a contract ready. He signed it first, then handed it over, recording the whole thing on video.
This wasn’t their first rodeo with challenges, so they were somewhat prepared.
The Skylantis guys looked down on the whole contract thing, signing it half-heartedly and tossing the pen aside instead of handing it back, being super rude.
The coach clenched his fists, his face turning red with anger.
But he held it in. After making sure the contract was good, he stepped into the ring.
He was a boxing coach and had won a city championship before. Even though he was retired and coaching now, he still had his strength. He was confident he could beat this so-called karate expert, who was a head shorter than him, to a pulp.
According to the rules, he was supposed to wear boxing gloves, but the other side was so cocky that he was itching to beat them up. Without gloves, his fists would be twice as deadly.
