Chapter 213 You All Come at Me Together
Harmony's tone was arrogant, dripping with the confidence of a victor.
The seven bodyguards, eager to impress her, began to encircle the five men. Caius, a bit rough around the edges, said bluntly, "Ms. Brown, no need for words. Leave them to us. We'll crush them."
James, skeptical of their claims of being retired special forces, shook his head. "These guys aren't professionals. They're going to get beaten up."
Harmony, already feeling weary, dismissed his concerns with a wave of her hand. "Leave it to them."
"Don't worry, Ms. Brown. We're pros at handling this kind of thing!" Caius pounded his chest confidently, completely underestimating the five men.
Caius saw their opponents as small, the tallest barely reaching six feet. While His men, all over six feet tall, had the numbers advantage. He thought they could easily overpower opponents. Without a second thought, he lunged towards Cormac.
But Cormac was too quick for him. His height, a disadvantage at this moment, didn't hinder his speed.
Harmony, about to retort to James's comment, was stunned by the loud bang that followed. Caius hadn't even touched Cormac before he was sent flying by a powerful kick to the chest, crashing heavily to the ground.
The other six bodyguards gasped in fear. The thud was heavy, the impact undeniable.
Harmony was speechless, her fear palpable.
James, however, wasn't surprised. He had seen this coming.
Cormac retracted his foot and spat disdainfully, "With your skills, you dare to show off in front of me? You must be suicidal."
The six bodyguards were shocked, swallowing hard. James was right; they were amateurs, relying on their size to intimidate. Most people wouldn't dare to challenge them, but they were no match for trained fighters.
Their fighting skills were average, barely better than ordinary people. Against these men, they were exposed.
They stood frozen, unsure of what to do.
Harmony, completely unprepared for this turn of events, was shaken. Her relaxed mood turned tense.
"Attack him! What are you standing there for?!" Caius, struggling to get up, yelled at his men. He was panting heavily, his face contorted in pain. Cormac's kick had been brutal.
But he wasn't completely incapacitated. He could still fight.
The six bodyguards, spurred by his order, gritted their teeth, clenched their fists, and charged at Cormac and his men.
But their skills were no match. They charged quickly but were defeated even faster. They were outmatched, outclassed. Within seconds, they were all on the ground, groaning in pain, unable to rise. Those who had been hit by Cillian and Alaric had broken ribs, their cries echoing through the air.
Harmony's jaw dropped in disbelief.
"How could this happen?" she whispered, her face pale with fear. She stumbled back a few steps, unable to comprehend the scene before her.
James shook his head. He had expected the bodyguards Michael had arranged to be useless, but he hadn't anticipated their complete lack of skill.
Cormac and his men cracked their necks, looking unsatisfied. Cillian, known for his violent tendencies and love of fighting, licked his lips and said in a hoarse voice, "With these weaklings, you dare to show off here?"
He then stomped hard on a bodyguard's chest, the man's face contorting in pain. The sight was terrifying.
Harmony's lips trembled, unable to speak. She was terrified.
She regretted her actions. If she had known this would be the outcome, she wouldn't have done it. Now she was in deep trouble.
She instinctively looked at James, hoping he might have a solution.
But she quickly dismissed the idea. James was a doctor. How could he possibly fight these professional thugs? Even the burly bodyguards had been no match.
She tried to calm herself, saying, "This is a law-abiding society. Don't do anything reckless!"
Seeing Harmony's panic, Cormac smiled and said, "Ms. Brown, you should give up resisting and come with us obediently. It'll save you unnecessary suffering."
"Who sent you to capture us? Was it Jared?" Harmony asked angrily.
Cormac didn't answer. He started walking slowly towards her, a gleeful smile on his face as if he had already received the $1.2 million.
Surrounded by the men, Harmony felt even more terrified. She had always lived a pampered life, never encountering such a situation. It was a testament to her strength that she hadn't burst into tears.
She noticed that James had remained silent, hiding behind her. Disappointment washed over her. She had thought he would be different, that even if he wasn't capable, he would stand up for her like the heroes in TV shows. But he hadn't. His behavior was cowardly, and she could imagine, without looking, that he was probably shaking with fear.
The thought that she had liked such a man made her feel ridiculous.
"Ms. Brown, you can't escape today, so don't waste your time. Maybe if you comply, Mr. Perry won't harm you," Cormac said, confirming Jared's involvement.
Harmony's pupils contracted, and she snorted angrily, "So it was that bastard, Jared!"
Then, she said unwillingly, "How much is Jared paying you? I'll give you double to let us go!"
'Double! That would be $2.4 million!'
Their eyes lit up at the offer.
But Cormac refused without hesitation, his expression cold. "Sorry, we value integrity. We've taken on this task, and we must see it through. Ms. Brown, I suggest you stop struggling and come with us. Our patience is limited."
Offending Jared would mean they couldn't continue in this line of work.
Seeing Harmony standing still, Cormac grew impatient and signaled to two of his men to grab her.
They had been focused on Harmony, completely ignoring James.
"Wait!"
Before they could grab her, Harmony shouted, took a deep breath, and made a decision. "I'll go with you, but I have one condition: let my friend go. He's innocent."
She glanced seriously at James, who had remained silent.
James was surprised and touched by her words.
He hadn't spoken because he wanted to teach Harmony a lesson, to prevent her from recklessly endangering herself in the future.
Cormac laughed. "Sorry, Mr. Perry specifically instructed us to bring both of you back, especially James."
He looked down on James.
From the moment they appeared, James had been silent, hiding behind Harmony, acting like a coward. Cormac despised such a man.
Harmony had betrayed Mr. Perry for such a loser, clearly misjudging him.
Harmony panicked and pushed James hard, saying, "Don't worry about me, run!"
Her action startled Cormac and his men, but they quickly realized that James hadn't run. He stood there like a statue, and for the first time, he smiled and said to Harmony, "Ms. Brown, do you believe me now? Your brother couldn't arrange professional bodyguards in a hurry."
Harmony was stunned. She couldn't believe that, at this moment, James would say such a thing.
'Was he an idiot? Couldn't he see the situation?' she thought.
She felt angry and resisted the urge to curse, saying, "That's still better than you hiding behind me and not saying a word! I told you to run, and you didn't. What are you thinking, James?!"
Seeing her anger and tears, James knew it was time for him to step in.
He didn't get angry. Instead, he smiled faintly and said, "I didn't run because I promised Mr. Brown I would protect you."
After saying this, he no longer looked at Harmony. He stepped out from behind her, faced Cormac and his men, and said, "Come at me all at once."
