Chapter 348 Ivan's Joy Turns to Sorrow
Walter was kicking himself for what he did. In all his twenty-something years, he’d never felt this kind of regret. It all came from being a jerk to James.
He’d never been into a girl like he was into Emberlyn. From the second he saw her, he was hooked. He could totally feel the pull towards her. He was dead set on making her his wife.
He even had names picked out for their kids the first time he saw her. But Emberlyn? She couldn’t care less about him. She wouldn’t even give him the time of day, and it drove him nuts.
He tried everything to win her over, treating her like a queen. He thought if he was just sincere enough, she’d come around.
But nope, Emberlyn didn’t give a damn about him. It didn’t matter though; he was in it for the long haul.
One day, he accidentally picked up a call for Emberlyn, labeled James, and heard some dude’s voice. From that moment, he was burning with jealousy and rage and dying to hunt this guy down and teach him a lesson. No one was gonna steal his girl.
Then he saw the guy—a total loser with a face full of zits. He couldn’t wrap his head around why Emberlyn would go for someone like that. Wasn’t he, Walter, way better?
Seeing Emberlyn holding hands and flirting with this guy drove him crazy.
But just when he was about to give this guy a piece of his mind, Derek got seriously sick. It was an emergency, and he had to rush back.
Derek’s condition was really bad. Walter was freaking out. When he heard there was a doctor who could save Derek, he was over the moon. But he never expected the doctor to be the same ugly dude who liked Emberlyn. That was just insane.
He seriously thought God was messing with him. How could this be happening? That ugly guy was his age. How could he be some miracle doctor?
But the truth was staring him in the face. The guy really was the miracle doctor everyone, even Edwin, was raving about. For Derek’s sake, Walter had to swallow his pride and go apologize to James.
Meanwhile, James hadn’t gone far. He was chilling in a nearby pavilion, sipping coffee, waiting for Walter in a park.
James looked pretty at ease, watching the kids playing around. He was so into it that he didn’t notice a group of people heading his way.
"Ivan, check it out. That dude by the pavilion with the coffee—doesn’t he look like the guy we ran into today?" someone pointed at James, all curious.
The guy next to him, Ivan, looked over and was totally stunned. Then he got all excited and said, "Holy crap, it’s him! Let’s grab him and take him to Walter. We’ve been searching for him all day, and here he is. Walter’s gonna owe us big time for this."
Another guy laughed, "Yeah, this is perfect. We didn’t think we’d find him here. Let’s nab him and get him to Walter."
The two guys talking were Ivan and Keith, who had been with Walter earlier. They’d just gotten out of the car and spotted James chilling in the pavilion. They were so pumped their faces turned red.
Besides Ivan and Keith, there were three other dudes with them.
"Keith, Ivan, what’s going on?" The three who hadn’t seen James before were confused.
Keith and Ivan quickly filled them in on the day’s events. The three were wide-eyed and super excited after hearing the story. "Man, what a lucky day. Let’s grab this guy and take him to Walter."
The five of them were buzzing with excitement and quickened their pace towards James. Since they were out without bodyguards, they were being extra careful, not wanting James to notice. They spread out, trying to surround him, thinking he might bolt. To them, James was like a deer in headlights.
But little did they know, James had already clocked their moves. Watching them sneak up, he felt a bit exasperated. Did they think he was some clueless bird?
Ivan was the first to get close, creeping up with his arms outstretched. His face lit up with excitement, eyes gleaming
But just as Ivan was about to grab him, James spun around and made a scary face, shouting to freak him out.
Ivan was so startled he stumbled backward and fell into the artificial lake with a huge splash, catching everyone’s attention in the park.
"Help, help, I can’t swim!" Ivan flailed around, looking totally pathetic.
The sudden move shocked the remaining four. They couldn’t believe James had noticed them and scared Ivan into the lake. It was unreal.
