Chapter 408 Let's Have a Baby

At home, Dennis and Kaitlyn were already out cold. The living room had this soft glow from the recessed lights as James and Jennifer snuck in.

"You should shower in the bedroom," Jennifer whispered to James.

James looked at her, totally surprised. In the five years they'd been married, Jennifer had never let him use the bedroom bathroom when she was around.

Jennifer blushed a bit and said, "Mom and Dad are asleep. If you shower in the hallway bathroom, you'll wake them up."

That excuse was pretty flimsy. For the past five years, he'd always showered in the hallway bathroom at this time and never woke Dennis and Kaitlyn. Plus, the hallway bathroom wasn't even close to their room; the kitchen was in between. As long as James didn't make a racket, there was no way he'd wake them.

Seeing Jennifer all shy, James felt a rush of excitement. He swallowed hard and scratched his head, saying, "I'll just shower in the hallway. I'll be careful not to wake Mom and Dad."

Jennifer glared at him and pulled him inside. "I told you to shower in the bedroom, so just do it. Why are you being so stubborn?"

She muttered under her breath, "No wonder Harmony says you're clueless and unromantic."

James was stunned, thinking, 'What on earth do they talk about?' But he had to pretend he didn't hear that awkward comment.

Jennifer showered first, then it was James's turn. As soon as he stepped into the bathroom, he was hit by this pleasant fragrance that was both refreshing and... arousing.

This scent was seriously stirring up some feelings.

James immediately felt a rush of excitement. He also noticed Jennifer's freshly changed intimate wear lying in the basket.

Instantly, James held his breath as his heartbeat sped up. A strong urge pulled him towards it, like some powerful magnet.

"No!" James slapped himself, stopping his dirty thoughts. "She's already your wife, and you're still thinking about her clothes, you pervert!"

James took a deep breath, trying to calm his agitated body. The last time he couldn't control his thoughts, he opened Arianwen's closet and got caught. It was super embarrassing. He couldn't make the same mistake again.

Jennifer was really sensitive about her intimate wear. If he messed with it, she'd be furious. James took a cold shower to clear his mind.

As he expected, when he came out, Jennifer said, "I forgot to take my clothes out earlier. You didn't touch them, did you?"

"No, absolutely not." James quickly waved his hands in denial.

At the same time, he felt a sense of relief. Luckily, he didn't touch them, or he'd be in big trouble.

Jennifer went in to grab her clothes, gave James a sideways glance, and said, "It's okay."

James let out a long sigh of relief, thankful for his quick thinking. If Jennifer had noticed, it would've been really awkward.

It was getting late, almost midnight, time to hit the hay. James opened the closet, ready to grab the bedding for the floor, but it was gone.

He searched the room but came up empty. 'Weird, it should be here. Did Jennifer move it?' James wondered.

Just then, Jennifer walked in, and James asked, "Hey, did you take my bedding?"

Jennifer said, "I threw it away."

"You did what?" James's eyes widened.

"Yeah, it was so old. With all the rain lately, it got moldy, so I tossed it," Jennifer said like it was no big deal.

James was speechless, thinking to himself, 'Even if it was moldy, you can't just throw it away. Where am I supposed to sleep now? On the floor?'

He sighed, "Guess I'll sleep on the couch then."

As he was about to head to the living room, Jennifer stopped him. "Hold on."

"What's up?" James looked at her, puzzled.

"Just sleep in the bed with me. Why crash on the couch?" She was trying to act casual, but her shy face and avoiding eyes gave her away.

James's heart started racing. "Isn't that a bit... inappropriate?"

"Inappropriate? We're married. We should be sleeping together," Jennifer said.

She grabbed James's hand, pulled him to the bed, and then went around to the other side to lie down. "Come on, we have to get up early tomorrow."

"Alright," James nodded stiffly. He had always wanted to sleep with Jennifer, but five years of habit and a psychological barrier made him feel super awkward, even though they had reconciled.

The bed was soft and comfy, sinking in as soon as he lay down. And most importantly, Jennifer, a gorgeous woman, was right next to him. James couldn't calm down, his heart pounding.

After the lights went out, neither of them spoke. The room was dead silent, except for the occasional faint sound of cars outside.

James lay still, feeling particularly tense.

Suddenly, Jennifer moved, turning over. James's heart immediately tensed up. After half a minute with no further movement from Jennifer, he slowly relaxed.

He shouldn't be this tense and nervous; it wasn't like him.

In the City of Mysteries, he had faced many charming women and always stayed cool, never as anxious as he was now.

After about half an hour, Jennifer hadn't spoken or moved again. Just as James thought she was about to fall asleep, she cooed, "James."

"Yeah?" James asked.

"Are you asleep?" Jennifer added.

That was a clever question.

"Not yet," James replied.

"Me neither." Jennifer's tone was gentle, with a hint of nervousness.

Silence fell again. After about three minutes, she asked, "Do you like kids?"

As soon as she asked, James immediately guessed what Jennifer was getting at. Instantly, his heart started racing again. Even his throat felt dry.

He swallowed and replied, "Yeah, I think I would."

Jennifer drew out her words, then said, "Let's have a baby, what do you think?"
