Chapter 547 The Lewis Family Makes a Move
At eight o'clock in the evening, Jennifer took another nap and finally felt much better. She could walk normally, so they checked out and went home.
Fortunately, James had been helping her channel energy, which allowed her to recover so quickly. Otherwise, even if she could walk now, it would still look unnatural, and people would notice something was off.
It must be said that after a night of James's care, Jennifer underwent a significant transformation. She looked radiant and even more stunning.
If you looked closely, you could see a hint of spring in Jennifer's eyes, making her even more feminine.
This was Jennifer's transformation from a girl to a woman after experiencing intimacy.
So when Jennifer walked out of the hotel arm in arm with James, they attracted a lot of attention. Passersby couldn't take their eyes off Jennifer.
Jennifer was just too beautiful.
In comparison, James looked too ordinary, almost to the point of being unattractive.
Actually, James wasn't actually ugly; at most, he was just average. But standing next to Jennifer, the difference was so stark that he seemed a bit unattractive.
Everyone unanimously thought that James must be very wealthy to have a woman like Jennifer.
When they got home, Dennis and Kaitlyn were in the living room watching TV. Seeing James and Jennifer return, they were surprised and asked, "Where did you two go last night? Why are you only coming back now? We were worried sick about you."
Jennifer said, "Mom, didn't I tell you? James and I had some business to attend to, so we didn't come home last night. There's nothing to worry about."
"Both of your phones were off, and we couldn't reach you. How could we not worry?" Suddenly, Kaitlyn noticed something and circled Jennifer twice, saying, "Jennifer, you seem a bit different."
Jennifer didn't react immediately and asked, "How am I different? Aren't I still your daughter?"
"No, your aura seems a bit different. Oh! I get it." As someone with experience, Kaitlyn quickly understood and showed a mischievous smile. "You young people really know how to have fun, going out to get a room. But you should be careful; I've heard some hotels secretly install cameras. Don't get caught on tape."
Jennifer's face immediately turned red with embarrassment, and she said, "Mom! What are you talking about? It's nothing like that. We just had some business to attend to and went on a trip together!"
James also felt a bit awkward. Kaitlyn's sharp eyes had immediately noticed Jennifer's change.
Dennis laughed, "You've been married for so long; It's no need to be shy. If you don't want to come home at night, you don't need to inform us. Stay out as long as you want. Just try to have a baby soon. Your mom and I are dying to have a grandchild."
Kaitlyn also said happily, "Yeah, that's the main thing. You should have a child. It's good that you got married early. If it were someone else, they'd already be in their thirties and miss the best time to have a baby. It's better to have a baby early; you'll recover faster, you know? You're already 26. If you get pregnant this year, you'll have the baby next year, and you'll be 27. If you have to have a C-section and want a second child, you'll need to wait three years, and for a third child, six years. By then, you'll be 37, which is considered an advanced maternal age, you know?"
Kaitlyn held Jennifer's hand and kept talking.
Jennifer bit her lip, glanced at James, and tried to hold back her emotions. She said, "Mom, you're so annoying. As a doctor, don't you think I know better than you?"
With this, she shook off Kaitlyn's hands and went into her room.
"You..." Kaitlyn was puzzled. She hadn't said anything wrong, wondering why Jennifer was so angry And Jennifer wasn't usually like this. "James, did you two have a fight on the way back?"
James also found it strange.
In her room, Jennifer went straight to the bathroom. Kaitlyn's words had brought back the sadness she had tried so hard to suppress!
Jennifer had desires to have children more than anyone else.
But she no longer had the chance. Last night was the last time she and James would be together. Soon, she would have to leave James.
She stayed in the bathroom for a full half hour before calming down and coming out. James saw her red eyes and asked with concern, "Jennifer, are you okay?"
Jennifer shook her head and said, "I'm fine."
"Your eyes are red. Have you been crying?" James continued.
"No, my eyes are just a bit dry," Jennifer said.
James said softly, "Jennifer, do you not want to have kids? If you don't want to, we won't. You don't need to feel pressured. Your happiness is the most important thing."
Faced with James's understanding, Jennifer bit her lip even harder. She nodded, "Let's drop it."
The next day, Jennifer and James got up early to go to the clinic. As soon as they got downstairs, James frowned. There were two police cars parked by the road. Several officers got out of the cars, saw James, and reached for their guns. They exchanged glances and then walked towards James with serious and stern expressions.
They scared quite a few passersby around them.
These weren't ordinary police officers; they were clearly SWAT.
James, being very smart, immediately understood that this was the Lewis family making a move against him, using official channels, which surprised him a bit.
He said to Jennifer, "Jennifer, you go to the clinic first. I'll be there soon."
Jennifer immediately became worried. She grabbed James's hand and said, "No, I'll go with you."
James smiled, "Why would you come with me? Don't you trust my abilities? It's a small matter, don't worry. Go to the clinic."
At this moment, the SWAT officers had already reached James. They showed their badges and said in a deep voice, "Mr. Smith, we suspect you are involved in a murder case in Starlight State. Come with us!"
The officer in front of James was a burly man, strong and intimidating. His gaze was piercing, and it was clear he was not someone to be trifled with. Ordinary people would be trembling in fear under his gaze.
Jennifer knew James was strong, but the other party was the police, backed by the entire country. She couldn't help but feel nervous.
