Chapter 133: Fear of the Wife
This thought emerged, and he could no longer suppress it. "Terry, I've got a favor to ask, and it's a tough one. I hope you can help me!"
"What is your request?" Terry asked with a knowing smile, clearly already understanding what Curtis was implying.
Curtis, being a smart man, saw Terry's smile and knew that he had already grasped his meaning. He said directly, "Jennifer is the woman I must have. Terry, if you could help me, I would be immensely grateful."
Terry showed a troubled expression. "I want to help you, Curtis, but Jennifer is my client. If I offend her, I will lose a lot. Besides, as far as I know, Jennifer is already married. If her husband finds out, it won't end well for me either."
Curtis could see that Terry was asking for money!
If it were any other woman, he wouldn't be so obsessed. For Curtis, Women were just women; as long as he had money, he could have any type he wanted. But Jennifer was different. Curtis had invested a lot of effort in her. Most importantly, he used to love Jennifer, although that love had turned into hatred.
Now Curtis dreamed of having Jennifer! If he had the chance, he would pin Jennifer down on the bed, ravaging her to satisfy his desires and his urgent need to humiliate James.
Even if it cost more money, he wouldn't hesitate.
So he said directly, "Terry, we are friends. I won't let you work for nothing. If you can help me get Jennifer, I'll give you one million dollars."
Terry's eyes lit up, and he laughed heartily. "You are indeed generous, offering a million dollars right off the bat. Since we are friends and you are so eager to get Jennifer, I certainly won't spoil your fun. However, would you mind telling me about Jennifer's husband?"
Curtis showed a disdainful expression. "Her husband is named James, a loser who didn't have a job. He's not worth worrying about. If he dares to come with Jennifer this time, I'll make him suffer!"
Curtis gritted his teeth, his expression filled with resentment. Just thinking about that scene made him incredibly excited, his body trembling uncontrollably!
"Then I congratulate you in advance on your success." Terry poured tea for Curtis. They both laughed, a lewd expression flashing across their faces.
"Pleasure doing business with you." Curtis's mouth curved into an exaggerated smile.
At this moment, Jennifer had no idea that Curtis had made a plan for her. After arriving in Pearl Peak City, she went to the restaurant to have dinner with Terry, just as planned.
The first moment Terry saw Jennifer, he was utterly stunned. He had seen many beautiful women in his life, but a woman like Jennifer, with looks, a great figure, and poise, was truly impressive. He suddenly understood why Curtis was willing to spend a million dollars to get Jennifer.
Any man would be moved by such a woman.
"Ms. Johnson, you are indeed a great beauty," Terry said with a smile. "Please, have a seat."
Jennifer was a bit surprised by Terry's enthusiasm. Industry insiders all said that Terry was very aloof and indifferent to people.
"Mr. Campbell, thank you for the compliment," Jennifer said with a stiff smile. She was really bad at socializing, and if it weren't for her radiant beauty, many people would overlook her.
Terry's mind was no longer on business. He didn't care about these things. After letting Jennifer sit down, he turned to James, who was beside her. "Ms. Johnson, who is this gentleman next to you?"
Jennifer said, "His name is James Smith, my husband."
Terry scrutinized James for a moment and found him to be quite ordinary. He thought James was clearly the type who lived off others without any talent. Especially when James didn't dare to meet his gaze, it made Terry even more certain that Curtis was right—James was indeed a useless man.
At the same time, he was puzzled. How could a capable and beautiful woman like Jennifer marry such a useless man? It was truly unbelievable!
Terry felt a twinge of jealousy.
But when he thought that Curtis would violate Jennifer tonight and humiliate James, he felt relieved. This was a society where strength mattered. Marrying a beautiful wife wasn't a good thing if one could not protect her.
"So, Mr. Smith, let me toast to you." Terry appeared very warm and friendly, continuously toasting James.
James, feeling flattered, hurriedly stood up, fumbling a bit and spilling some of his drink. "Mr. Campbell, you can just call me James."
Jennifer frowned, looking displeased. She hadn't wanted to bring James along; it was he who insisted on coming. Jennifer had hoped James would help her manage the situation and handle the socializing. However, James's timid behavior in front of Terry made her feel very embarrassed.
It seemed that aside from his medical skills, James was lacking in social etiquette.
Terry's smile grew even wider when he saw James's behavior, and he was now completely convinced that James was a useless man.
He signaled to a few of his subordinates, who understood and began to take turns toasting James, flattering him by praising Jennifer's beauty and his luck. Their flattery made James grin from ear to ear, and he accepted their toasts one after another.
On the surface, they were flattering James, but in their hearts, they thought he was a fool.
Meanwhile, in the adjacent private room, Curtis and a few men were also watching through a surveillance camera. They were equally pleased with what they saw.
"Mr. Campbell, I really... really can't drink anymore..."
James's face was flushed with alcohol, his eyes barely open, and his speech slurred.
"Mr. Smith, we haven't had fun yet! Come on, let me toast to your bright future."
One man filled James's glass and handed it to him, looking very pleased.
James looked very uncomfortable but couldn't refuse.
Jennifer couldn't stand it anymore. She didn't understand why James had become like this. She glared at James and said, "James, stop drinking! We have a business to talk about."
James opened his mouth to speak, but before he could, Terry chimed in, "Mr. Smith, are you afraid of your wife?"
These words seemed to provoke James, who suddenly became agitated. "Who says I'm afraid of my wife? I'm not afraid of her at all!"
Jennifer's face darkened immediately upon hearing this. She glared at James angrily, saying, "Idiot, stop."
James downed his drink in one gulp, then straightened his neck and glared at Jennifer. "I could drink more. Stop bothering me!"
