Chapter 94 Jennifer's Bold Idea
James has never been one to nitpick, but he also has principles. If he had not been excessively humiliated by Curtis, he would not have given Curtis a lesson.
Stanley was astute; otherwise, he wouldn't have risen to this position. Soon, he realized that there was a conflict between this guy named Curtis and James.
Understanding this, he swiftly delivered a slap to Curtis's face, "Damn, you're not James's friend, yet you dare ask me for money?" James raised an eyebrow, surprised that Stanley, despite his rough appearance, was quite quick to catch on to things.
Curtis's face was filled with embarrassment; James's move was more discomforting than a direct insult.
None of those who admired him moments ago stepped forward to speak up for him; instead, they watched with glee.
"I..." He tried to speak while he gritted his teeth, feeling infinite humiliation.
He had always been proud since childhood, surrounded by admirers. Where had he ever experienced such humiliation? His eyes reddened, tears unexpectedly streaming down his face, his composure shattered.
James shook his head. He thought, 'With such a weaker mindset, how could you even think of competing with me for a woman? Truly ignorant asshole.'
After settling the matter, James couldn't be bothered with more talk. He directly told Stanley and the others, "Get lost."
Stanley, with a fawning expression, hurried over and ingratiated himself to James, and humbly requested, "Sir, can you share your phone number with me?"
James furrowed his brow, and doubted, "What, you're not satisfied and planning to seek revenge in the future?"
"No, no!" Stanley hastily shook his head, denying, "Sir, please don't misunderstand. Even with ten times the courage, I wouldn't dare oppose you! I admire your style, and want to be your friend."
James chuckled; Stanley was indeed interesting, adaptable, and unpretentious; no wonder he could be a leader.
He waved his hand, saying, "Let's skip exchanging phone numbers. If it's meant to be, we'll meet again."
"Alright..." Stanley's expression revealed disappointment. Despite his keen judgment, he couldn't ignore the fact that James didn't see him as noteworthy.
"Wait," James called out to him.
Stanley's expression brightened, and eagerly replied, "Sir, is there something else?"
His attitude was respectful.
James shook his head, and casually said, "You've misunderstood. I'm warning you, you'll face a disaster soon. It's best to stay indoors and avoid traveling as much as possible. Also, find some obsidian to wear; it'll benefit you."
Stanley was taken aback, somewhat skeptical. He thought James was pulling his leg and didn't take it seriously.
James sensed his doubt, smiled faintly, said no more, and turned to Jennifer, saying, "How about that? I didn't lie, right? I can handle things without Michael."
Jennifer sweetly smiled and took the initiative to hold James's hand, leaning against him affectionately.
At that moment, she felt happy; James was no longer the useless person he used to be.
As for the others, their expressions towards James were filled with awe. Many single female classmates even gazed at him with hearts in their eyes, sending flirtatious glances.
James paid no mind to these looks, but Jennifer felt jealous. She intimately clung to James's arm, furrowing her brows disapprovingly at these seductive women.
James sensed her jealousy and felt rather pleased.
After this incident, Jennifer lost interest in staying. She grabbed a bite to eat and then pulled James away. She feared that James would be seduced by these seductive women!
"Wow, what's James's true identity? He was so handsome just now!" someone complimented.
"I asked a friend; that Stanley is quite a prominent figure in Lindwood City, very influential. Even regular big bosses wouldn't dare provoke him. How did he act like a loser in front of James?" somebody questioned.
"It shows that James's status is extraordinary! I thought he was a loser, but it turns out he's a big shot!" another exclaimed in awe.
"Thank goodness he's magnanimous; if he hadn't intervened just now, we would've lost that fifty thousand," one added, relieved.
They started making compliments to James.
"Why do some people differ so much from James? Some people boast about themselves, but in the end, they're just losers," someone scolded.
All eyes turned to the bruised and battered Curtis, who looked exceptionally miserable.
Curtis's expression twisted instantly; he slammed the table, exploding, "Who are you talking about!?"
Someone answered, "It's you, trash."
Others began to mock Curtis.
Curtis was furious, his face alternating between pale and red, trembling with rage, yet he couldn't find words to retort. In the end, he slunk away in embarrassment.
James and Jennifer emerged from the hotel, rain starting to drizzle from the sky. James took off his coat, shielding Jennifer with his hands above her head. This gesture warmed Jennifer's heart, causing her to hug him tighter, not minding her chest pressing against him.
As they hailed a cab, a voice recorder slipped out of his pocket. Jennifer turned it on and immediately heard what Curtis had said to James earlier.
The first part of the recording said, "I underestimated you; I didn't expect a loser like you to have some skills. Jennifer was fooled by you. But do you think you can beat me? Let me tell you, I took Jennifer's virginity; You're not her first man!"
It continued, "What a fool, do you believe this? Let me tell you, Jennifer is my woman! I'm determined to have her. You, this loser, better stay away from her, or else, don't blame me for being rude to you!"
...Jennifer's face turned ugly upon hearing Curtis's words. She explained to James, "Don't listen to his nonsense! I've never been with him. Curtis is truly disgusting!"
James chuckled, and replied, "I know, you're still a virgin. How could you have any connection with him? I just wanted you to see his true colors."
Upon hearing this, Jennifer felt inexplicably guilty. Yes, she was still a virgin, married to James for five years, and he hadn't touched her, not even sharing a bed. James had always been sleeping on the floor.
Suddenly, she felt remorseful towards James. In truth, over these five years, although James had been a bit weak, he had been good to her. Yet, she had always been critical of him.
Looking at James's slightly weary profile, Jennifer bit her lip, feeling a bold idea form in her mind. Her heart raced, her face flushed.
