Chapter 216 Returning the Favor

Jared's eyes widened, his jaw slack. He rubbed his eyes, blinking rapidly as if trying to erase the scene before him. "James? It's actually you?!"

The shock was palpable, a wave of disbelief washing over him. He couldn't speak, his mind reeling.

James, however, remained unfazed. He smiled, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "Jared, didn't you really want to see the two of us? Why are you scared now that you see us?"

Jared's teeth chattered. In all his years, he had never encountered anything so bizarre.

He asked Soren to arrange for five professional thugs; he believed they were more than enough to handle a professional boxer, let alone James.

'How had James defeated them?'

'Could it be that Soren had betrayed him?'

He quickly dismissed the thought. He knew Soren had been loyal for years.

'Someone must have helped James!' he thought to himself.

He had never considered that James might be a master.

Harmony stepped forward, her voice laced with scorn. "Jared, I must have been blind ever to like a scumbag like you! Back then, to pursue me, you said many sweet words and made many promises. After we got engaged and you found out I had a strange illness, you never once showed any concern! When I called you, needing your comfort, you ignored me and even wanted to break off the engagement. Do you know how heartbroken I was?!"

"Well, now my illness has been cured by James, and my skin is even better than before. Now that you know this, you start begging me to get back together with you. Too bad, I already saw through your beastly nature. Fuck you!"

"After I rejected you, you became furious and took it out on James, thinking I rejected you because of him? You're mistaken. I have nothing to do with James. Even without James, I would never get back together with you in this lifetime!"

"At the reception for Mr. Jackson, you thought I didn't know? You just wanted to become the son-in-law of The Jackson Family. Too bad, trash like you wouldn't even catch Ms. Jackson's eye!"

"After that, did you become furious and start sending people to trouble James and me?"

"Jared, you are the most disgusting and shameless person I have ever met!!"

Harmony spoke in a single breath, her voice rising with each accusation. She had finally released all the pent-up anger and frustration, feeling a sense of catharsis.

Jared's face contorted in fury. He had never been scolded like this by anyone, especially not by a woman he considered his prey. This feeling was worse than being slapped in the face, making his body tremble uncontrollably. "Harmony..."

He wanted to unleash a torrent of insults, but when he met James's gaze, he faltered.

Seeing his fear, Harmony felt a surge of satisfaction. She sneered. "Too bad. Your schemes are no match for James's wisdom and strength!"

Jared gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with rage. He wanted to rush over and pin her down, but he didn't dare. The situation was clearly unfavorable. He wasn't even sure if there were others hiding in the house, ready to jump out and subdue him at any moment.

James spoke, his voice calm but laced with a chilling undertone. "Jared, I heard from your men that tonight you planned to have us captured, break my limbs, lock me up, and torture me to death. You also planned to assault Ms. Brown brutally. I won't make things difficult for you. How about we carry out your plan on you and call it even?"

James sat on Soren and the other two, his legs crossed, a smile playing on his lips. At first glance, it was hard to believe he was uttering such ruthless words.

Jared's pupils contracted, his fear palpable. He said urgently, "James! Don't do anything rash. I am the eldest son of The Perry Family. If you dare to harm me, you will be making an enemy of The Perry Family!"

"Is that so?" James frowned, feigning hesitation.

Seeing that James seemed genuinely afraid, Jared's tense mood relaxed slightly. He straightened his body, his voice regaining a semblance of confidence. "Of course! Our Perry Family is one of the top families in Serenity Province, and it has immense power. You are just an ordinary person. Do you think you can escape the Perry Family's revenge?"

"Then I really need to think this over," James said, his expression serious.

"That's right." Jared smiled, the color returning to his pale face. He stared at James, his voice dripping with arrogance. "James, I admit I underestimated you, but the gap between our statuses is an insurmountable chasm for you. As for the money you took from me and then defied me, as long as you hand over Harmony, I won't hold it against you."

The room fell silent. Even Soren, pinned to the ground, was speechless.

'How had I never realized before that Jared was such a childish, delusional fool? Given the situation, he was still trying to act tough.' He thought.

Cormac and the other four looked at Jared as if he were an idiot. They felt that society was truly unfair; someone as dim-witted as Jared could be a wealthy second-generation heir, living a life of luxury, while they, so smart, were born into poverty and had to struggle for a living every day.

They all felt a deep sense of resentment.

James's smile widened, and he began to clap slowly. "Jared, I have to admire your imagination. It's incredible. Even now, you still think you're the victor."

Jared's face darkened. "James, what do you mean by that?!"

James couldn't be bothered to waste words with him. He addressed Cormac and the other four directly. "Whoever grabs him first, I'll let him go."

They were stunned for a second, and then one of them, Cillian, who had been knocked out by James earlier, charged at Jared like a tiger descending a mountain. He had recovered, though still in pain, but he could move normally.

He was thoroughly terrified of James, understanding that the gap between them was too vast. He was a violent maniac, but that didn't mean he had a masochistic tendency.

Hearing James's words, he reacted the fastest and rushed out first.

Following him, the remaining four scrambled to run towards Jared, looking like ravenous dogs seeing meat, their eyes red, as if they wanted to devour Jared alive. Jared was so scared that he shivered all over. His reaction was quick as well, almost reflexively turning to run.

However, no matter how fast he was, he couldn't be faster than Cillian and the others. In just a few seconds, Cillian caught him and punched him in the stomach. Cillian knew about the grudge between him and James, so he didn't hold back. He used all his strength in that punch, making Jared vomit stomach acid.

"Mr. Smith, I was the first to catch him!" Cillian, holding Jared like a discarded rag doll, shouted excitedly to James. The other four, who were a step slower, were all very frustrated.

James nodded. "Drag him over here."

Cillian was a smart guy. He immediately understood James's intention, grabbed Jared by the hair with one hand, dragged him downstairs, and threw him in front of James.

James waved him off, saying, "Alright, you can go now."

Cillian, who was anxious, was overjoyed and quickly bowed to thank James before rushing out the door at lightning speed.

This made Cormac and the others so envious that their eyes turned red.

James stood up from the sofa, walked over to Jared, and used his foot to turn him over to face him. He smiled and said, "Mr. Perry, you seem to have misunderstood the situation."

Jared clutched his stomach tightly. Cillian's punch had almost broken his intestines, causing him to gasp in pain, unable to say a word.

"Not talking? Does that mean you look down on me?" James's tone turned icy as he prepared to hit Jared, scaring him so much that he quickly endured the pain and said, "No, it really hurts."

James said, "Then stand up and talk to me. I hate it when people talk to me while lying down."

Jared's mouth twitched, cursing James in his heart.

Of course, he didn't dare to say this out loud. Now, he understood that James was here for revenge.

At this point, he could only compromise and hope for James's mercy. Once he got through this, he would have plenty of opportunities for revenge.

"James, it's because my stomach hurts." Jared had never felt so humiliated. He was grinding his teeth so hard they were about to break.

James was deliberately torturing him and wouldn't listen to his explanation. He started counting, "I'll count to three."

"Fine, I'll get up!!" Jared, holding back his anger, took a deep breath and struggled to get up.

James didn't pause in his counting. When he reached three, he suddenly kicked out, hitting Jared in the stomach again. This kick was much harder than Cillian's punch!

Jared flew back, crashing heavily into the liquor cabinet behind him, knocking it over. Bottles fell and hit his head, making him look beyond miserable.

Jared didn't pass out. James's kick almost ruptured his stomach, causing tears to stream down his face. Several bottles had hit his head, and the extreme pain was beyond what he could bear, making Jared suffer immensely.

For scum like Jared, James naturally had no mercy. If it had been someone else in Jared's hands tonight, their fate would have been even worse.

Being kind to friends and ruthless to enemies was James's lifelong creed. Jared was his enemy, so he wouldn't show him any mercy.

He directly told Cormac and the other three, "Use all the torture methods you know on Jared until I'm satisfied, and then you can leave."

Hearing this, their eyes lit up, and they began to prepare eagerly. Jared, on the other hand, was scared to death. Enduring the pain, he cried out for mercy, "James! James! I won't dare anymore, I really won't dare, please spare me!!!"
