Chapter 103: What Are You Laughing At?
James was reading a book when he heard the phone ring. Without looking, he picked it up. "Hello?"
Harmony's voice immediately came through the phone. "James, you were right. Jared got into a car accident last night."
Hearing Harmony's voice clearly, James responded with a flat reaction.
"Aren't you even a bit surprised at all?" Harmony asked, frowning.
James replied indifferently, "What's there to be surprised about? I've told you he was going to have an accident soon."
"How did you know he was going to have an accident?" Harmony asked, utterly puzzled.
James said, "I told you, he’s done too many bad things; it was karma. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up. Long-distance calls are expensive."
Harmony hurriedly said, "Wait, I need to talk to you."
"Why do you have so many issues?" James's tone was noticeably impatient.
Harmony gritted her teeth. Other men would go out of their way to please her, but James seemed annoyed even when she called him. It was infuriating. Harmony had never been treated like this. Besides, she was the one who made the call, the bill was on her, so why should James care about the phone bill?
‘I shouldn't be angry,’ Harmony kept telling herself, trying to calm down. Just as she was about to speak again, James hung up. Instantly, she went berserk. ‘Oh my God, this jerk actually hung up on me.’
If James were in front of her, she would definitely hit him hard.
She called back, and before James could say anything, she said, "If you dare hang up on me again, I'll tell Jennifer that you saw me naked and touched me all over!"
Sure enough, hearing this, James immediately tensed up. These words made him nervous, his heart racing.
At that moment, Jennifer was doing yoga in the living room.
'Harmony is such a crazy girl! If Jennifer heard this, she would kill me,' James thought.
For safety's sake, he didn't dare hang up on Harmony again. Pretending to go to the bathroom, he lowered his voice and said, "How many times do I have to explain? I was treating your illness! I didn't do anything inappropriate to you."
"I don't care. The fact is you saw me naked and touched me for a long time. No one has ever seen my body, let alone a man." Sensing James's anxiety, Harmony seemed to find a hint of amusement. Her previously irritated mood inexplicably turned cheerful.
Hearing this, James became even more nervous and quickly said, "Hey, you don't expect me to take responsibility for touching your body, do you? Let me be clear: that's not going to happen. I'm married. There's no way anything can happen between us."
"Who wants you to take responsibility?" Harmony spat. "Even if all the men in the world died, I wouldn't like you, okay? Stop flattering yourself!"
Harmony was so angry she was grinding her teeth. 'Damn James, he’s so infuriating. If I really want him to take responsibility, it would be his good fortune. He acted like he was unwilling to accept me. How annoying!’
James breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. He was just worried that Harmony might suddenly lose her mind and demand he take responsibility, which would be bad.
"So what do you need from me? Why not just say it directly?" James frowned.
Harmony was extremely angry. But she didn't waste any more time and quickly explained the whole Taoist master things to him.
"I don't think Mr. Wolf can handle this problem. Can you come over and take a look?" she asked.
James recalled the exhaustion in Michael's voice during their previous phone call. After some thought, he agreed to help. Michael had always been good to him, and now that Michael was in trouble, he couldn't just ignore it. Besides, he was only going to take a look. If Mr. Wolf could handle the problem, he would be glad to see that. But if Mr. Wolf turned out to be a fraud, he could step in and save the day.
"Harmony, who were you talking to just now? You seemed so happy," Michael asked curiously. In his impression, Harmony was usually aloof and rarely smiled so brightly.
"What? When did I laugh?" Harmony instantly reverted to her cold demeanor, and the surrounding aura seemed to change.
Michael fell silent.
Orlando returned with a compass in hand, smiling as he said, "I've surveyed the area and know what to do now. I just need to perform a ritual to dispel the evil spirits."
"Great, great. I'll leave it to you." Michael managed to contain his excitement and nodded repeatedly.
At this moment, Orlando's two apprentices had already set up the altar and handed a wooden sword to Orlando. Instantly, Orlando gripped the wooden sword, and with a sudden shake of his right hand, the wooden sword emitted a metallic sound as if it had turned into a real blade. Moreover, Orlando's gaze became sharp, and his demeanor changed at that moment.
He muttered incantations, his expression solemn and commanding, instilling awe in everyone around him. "Flames!"
With a flip of his left hand, three yellow talismans appeared out of thin air. He snapped his fingers, and the three talismans ignited spontaneously, causing another round of cheers from the crowd.
Orlando relished the feeling of being worshipped, a smug smile curling at the corners of his mouth as he performed with even more vigor.
Not far away, James watched Orlando's theatrics and shook his head involuntarily. How could someone as shrewd as Michael invite such a fraud?
This so-called Orlando might fool others, but he couldn't fool James. Despite Orlando's impressive display, he was just a fraud using magic tricks to deceive others.
James had only arrived a short while ago, but as soon as he got close, he sensed the malevolent aura in the area. It was filled with evil spirits. Ordinary people staying there for too long would experience various negative emotions—irritation, sadness, anger, anxiety. Their mental state would gradually deteriorate, and in severe cases, they might even experience auditory and visual hallucinations.
Moreover, the malevolent energy was gradually intensifying. If not properly dealt with, it wouldn't be long before it could even lead to fatalities.
As the wealthiest man, Michael should avoid buying such a cursed property.
"Wind!" Orlando shouted, pointing to the east, and immediately a gust of wind blew from that direction. This display made Michael even more impressed.
James couldn't help but chuckle. Orlando was too shameless, using lots of tricks to fool others.
His laugh was just loud enough to reach Orlando's ears, who immediately looked at him with displeasure. "What are you laughing at?"
Everyone followed Orlando's gaze to look at James. Michael saw him and was momentarily stunned. "James? What are you doing here?"
Hiding among the crowd, James realized he couldn't stay hidden any longer. He stepped forward, nodded in greeting to Michael, and waved dismissively at Orlando. "Nothing, please go on."
Seeing that James knew Michael, Orlando, though displeased, said nothing more and continued with his ritual.
