Chapter 432 I Want to Marry Her

Five years ago, James was keen and haughty, akin to a sword ascending towards the heavens. His gaze served as his blade; a mere glance could inflict pain and command reverence.

But now, James no longer had that sharpness. The sword of the past had turned into a hard rock, a black one that absorbed all light.

At first glance, even Saxon didn't notice James's presence, thinking he was just an ordinary man who looked like James.

It wasn't that Saxon's perception had dulled; it was that James had become so ordinary that it was impossible to associate him with the once sharp and imposing figure.

Before coming, Saxon had prepared himself for changes in James. After all, if he still had the same sharpness, he wouldn't be able to integrate into society.

But he had never expected the change to be so complete that even he was deceived at first glance. It was unbelievable.

On the second look, Saxon was even more shocked because he realized he couldn't see through James.

James had learned all his skills, except for the mystical arts, from Saxon. But now, as his father and teacher, Saxon couldn't see through him. How shocking was that?

On the third look, he saw clearly, but the shock in his heart only grew stronger.

He discovered that James's energy center had expanded by at least double, and his strength had more than doubled.

Was this still his son, Saxon's son?

In an instant, such a question arose in his mind.

Their eye contact conveyed their thoughts. James turned to Jennifer and said, "I'm going out for a bit. Don't wait for me for lunch."

Jennifer finally realized that Saxon was here for James. She nodded and continued her work.

She hadn't thought that the distinguished middle-aged man in front of her was James's father, even though she knew James had received a family call last night. This was due to her habitual thinking; after all, in all their years of marriage, James's family had never appeared.

They walked out of the clinic and strolled around the street, blending in with the passersby.

However, Saxon's aura was so imposing that people instinctively kept their distance from him.

"When did your taste become so poor?" Saxon said.

James replied, "Love is strange."

Saxon shook his head and said, "If Alistair saw you like this now, I wonder if he would regret his decision back then."

"Dad, how is everything at home?" James asked. After being away for five and a half years, it was impossible not to miss home at all.

Saxon said, "It's the same as before."

Then he stopped and looked at James, saying, "Tell me your thoughts."

"I want to marry her," James said, looking Saxon in the eye, adding, "I want to marry her legitimately."

Saxon's eyebrows twitched violently.

Then he closed his eyes, clearly agitated. After a few seconds, he opened them again, "Have you forgotten the rules of the Smith Family?"

"I remember," James suddenly became concise, his face showing determination mixed with helplessness.

"Don't be willful. Alistair is waiting for you to return," Saxon said meaningfully. "In the five years you've been gone, many member in the family have tried to seize the position of heir, but Alistair has suppressed them all. Usher Smith and Wylie Smith have grown rapidly in these years, surpassing your strength from five years ago. If you don't return soon, Alistair won't be able to suppress them for long."

Usher and Wylie were James's cousins, both outstanding descendants of the family. In terms of talent and strength, they were only second to James. As long as James was around, they were destined to be suppressed without any chance of resistance. But with James's mysterious disappearance for five years, no one could suppress them anymore.

Even Alistair, the head of the family, was beginning to struggle to keep them in check.

With this, James quickly regained his composure.

Seeing James's silence, Saxon continued, "Besides Usher and Wylie, many other powerful young people have emerged in the industry, no less capable than you were back then. Among them, Remy Steele is the most outstanding. His strength has grown rapidly in the past five years, and his influence is strong. If you lose the family's protection and he finds out you're still alive, do you think you can protect her with your own strength?"

"Remy?" James was a bit surprised to hear the name. Remy was someone he used to discipline the most, beating him up seven or eight times a year, once even making him cry.

With Remy's arrogant yet handsome face, James recalled the past scenes.

For a moment, he even felt a bit nostalgic.

James said, "He will never be my match."

"Really?" Saxon retorted, and the next second, he struck without warning, throwing a punch at James.

The move was so fast that even a high-speed camera would struggle to capture it.

In under a millisecond, the punch would have struck James.

But James dodged it, his movements imperceptible. In the blink of an eye, he had moved two feet away, just enough to avoid Saxon's punch.

Saxon exclaimed in surprise but didn't continue attacking. He had already gauged James's strength and felt both astonished and gratified.

"I am unable to make a decision on this matter. You should return and discuss it with Alistair; he has great expectations for you," Saxon sighed.

James thought for a moment and nodded, "Alright, I'll go back in a few days."

Saxon looked at James's face, feeling more and more unfamiliar. He wanted to say something but ultimately didn't, patting James on the shoulder before leaving.

"Is that your friend just now?" Jennifer asked after returning to the clinic.

James said, "He's my dad."

"What?" Jennifer exclaimed.

Immediately, everyone in the clinic looked over.

Jennifer pulled James into the office, closed the door, and nervously asked, "Is your dad here to take you back?"

James nodded.

Jennifer asked with with tension, "Are you going back?"

James smiled and hugged her, saying, "Don't worry, I have said I wouldn't leave you."

Jennifer hugged James tightly, feeling inexplicably anxious. Even though she was holding him, she always felt like he could fly away and disappear from her world at any moment.

A week later, James returned to the City of Mysteries alone.
