Chapter 624 Becoming a Disciple

James did not deny it and nodded in acknowledgment.

Sword God curiously asked, "Were you born with such an energy center, or did you cultivate it later?"

Sword God couldn't help but be curious because James's current energy center was almost catching up to his own.

It should be noted that he was a master of the Extreme Pathway, while James was just an ordinary martial artist at the peak of the fourth stage, and the two were not on the same level.

James did not hide anything and told Sword God about his experience of surviving a fire in Lindwood City, where he was severely burned and narrowly escaped death.

In fact, even he was scratching his head over it. Normally, a person's energy core is set in stone, like DNA, and training might boost it by ten percent tops. But after that fire, his energy core straight-up doubled. It was like going from 5 feet to 10 feet overnight—totally messed with logic.

After hearing this, Sword God was also amazed and said, "Interesting, interesting. Normally, a person's energy center has its limits—you can't just stretch it forever. But you doubled yours. That's not just unusual; it's unheard of. Before hitting the Extreme Pathway, energy center's pretty much set in stone. It's only after you break through and your body undergoes that transformation that you can expand it. But you managed to pull it off while still in the third stage. I've never seen anything like it."

James said, "Maybe it's because I walked on the edge of life and death?"

Sword God nodded in agreement and said, "Seems like the only explanation. But plenty of fighters have been in life-or-death situations, and none of them pulled this off. Take Neil, for example. Over the past few years, he's been in the crosshairs at least ten times overseas, and he's still stuck. Meanwhile, you? You cracked it. That tells me your body's built different."

Neil's been through the wringer ten times? James raised an eyebrow, surprised. He hadn't pegged Neil for that kind of backstory.

Sword God saw through his thoughts and said, "Neil may not be as good as you, but his will and experiences are not inferior to yours. His biggest problem is that he is too arrogant, and his mindset is not as high as yours."

James remained silent.

James found that Sword God was talking to him more than he had expected.

"Sword God, is there anything else you need from me?" James decided to ask directly because he knew that with someone like Sword God, any little tricks would be seen through immediately. It was best to be honest; otherwise, it would backfire.

Sword God, already having a certain understanding of James's intelligence, did not hide anything and said, "You are very smart, so I won't hide it from you. You have a good foundation, and with proper cultivation, you have the potential to reach the Extreme Pathway. I want to take you as my student. As long as you have the ability, I will teach you everything I know without asking for anything in return. The only requirement is that you must never betray Sunlandia, and if Sunlandia is in trouble, you must stand up immediately."

To be honest, James was really surprised!

He knew that Sword God would come to see him tonight, but he never expected that Sword God would want to take him as a student!

This was truly shocking.

It should be noted that Sword God was a legendary figure in Sunlandia, having dominated the world for decades before retiring in recent years.

Such a prominent figure wanted to take him as a student.

Moreover, just a few days ago, he had beaten Neil.

At this moment, James genuinely felt Sword God's magnanimity and his passion for his country.

This was the first time James felt immense respect for Sword God.

James instinctively opened his mouth to agree, but hesitated when the words reached his lips.

"What's wrong? Think I'm not worthy to be your teacher?" Sword God frowned slightly.

As a master of the Extreme Pathway, standing at the pinnacle of humanity, he carried this untouchable vibe that most folks just couldn't wrap their heads around. For him to take on a student was a big deal. When he took Neil under his wing, it wasn't some casual decision. The Stewart family had to beg and plead, and Neil had to kneel for three straight months to prove he was serious. Even then, it was Neil's raw talent that finally tipped the scales.

And now he was taking the initiative to accept James as a student, yet James hesitated?

This was a form of disrespect to Sword God, and he was somewhat annoyed.

James sensed Sword God's emotions and said with a wry smile, "It's not that you're not worthy, Sword God. Hell, I'm the one who's worried I'll embarrass you. My life's a mess right now—I can't stick by your side or rep you like a proper disciple should."

Sword God's expression softened a bit. "That's not what matters. My students don't need to be glued to me. Just break through to the Extreme Pathway and remember me as your teacher. That's all I'm asking."

He locked eyes with James, his tone dead serious. "So, I'll ask you again—are you in? Will you take me as your teacher?"

This time, James did not hesitate. He knelt down, respectfully bowed to Sword God, and said loudly, "I, James, greet my teacher!"

Sword God's face lit up with a satisfied smile, though a flicker of something more complicated crossed his expression before vanishing. By the time James looked up, Sword God had already regained his composure. He reached down, helping James to his feet, and said, “Good. Very good. From this moment on, you're my student. As long as your understanding runs deep, I'll teach you everything I've learned in my lifetime."

"Thank you, Sword God!" James was buzzing with excitement. Being taken on as Sword God's student was a pleasant surprise he hadn't seen coming.

Up close, James could see that Sword God might've had a youthful face, but his eyes told a different story—tired, with those little lines at the corners.

It tracked, though, since word was Sword God was pushing eighty. For most people, that's way past their prime. But here he was, still at the top of his game. Pretty wild, if you think about it.

"Hit me with your full strength. I want to see your level."

After the apprenticeship ceremony, Sword God wasted no time and immediately began instructing James.

James nodded and did not hesitate. He stepped back a few paces, began to gather his strength, took a deep breath, and with such force that the air within 100 feet was blown towards him, causing Sword God's clothes to flutter.

Then, he launched himself forward, putting everything into his fist. It was like a comet streaking across the sky, aimed straight at Sword God.

The punch was insane. The sky seemed to shift, the ground rumbled, and the air cracked like thunder. The noise was so intense that allies miles away snapped their heads around, thinking the Godslayer Organization was making a move. They booked it to the scene.

In a flash, James was right in front of Sword God. His fist tore through the air so fast it sounded like it was ripping apart, sharp and deafening.
