Chapter 508 You Want to Meet Mr. Lewis?
James complimented, "Mr. Dobbins, you are truly impressive; you actually have connections with the Lewis family."
Tobias, feeling utterly pleased, began to boast even more. He launched into a detailed account of his business dealings with the Lewis family, portraying himself as being quite close to them. However, James quickly discerned that Tobias merely had a minor collaboration with the Lewis family, not a significant enterprise. In other words, in the eyes of the Lewis family, Tobias was nothing more than a minor figure.
Tobias relished the act of boasting, especially when someone was willing to listen with an envious expression. This pleasure was heightened by the fact that James was Jennifer's husband.
James asked, "Mr. Dobbins, do you happen to know Brent from the Lewis family?"
Jennifer immediately tensed up and looked sharply at James, unable to hide her panic.
Tobias was a bit surprised and said, "Do you know Mr. Lewis?"
"I've heard about him from friends, and I'd really like to meet him," James said with a smile.
Tobias didn't catch on to the underlying meaning in James's words and burst out laughing, not hiding his mockery of James at all. "You want to meet Mr. Lewis? Do you know who Mr. Lewis is? He makes more money in a day than you do in ten years. How do you plan to meet him?"
James wasn't angry and still smiled, "I don't make as much as he does, but maybe he likes to make friends with men like me."
Upon hearing this, Tobias laughed even louder, and the Valentin couple also began to chuckle. They had initially thought that someone as beautiful as Jennifer would marry a wealthy man, but to their surprise, she married a small fry who couldn't even discern the mockery in others' remarks.
Dennis maintained a stern expression, feeling deeply uncomfortable. He was well aware of James's capabilities; not only did James have connections with magnates like Michael, but he could also summon Walter from the renowned Jenkins family with a single phone call. Dennis couldn't comprehend why James had now become so humble.
If it were in the past, Dennis would have scolded James, but now he didn't dare to.
After witnessing some of James's actions, he had harbored a certain fear of James deep down.
Only Jennifer had a general idea of what James was thinking, feeling very nervous.
She didn't actually doubt James, knowing his background from a prominent family in the City of Mysteries. In terms of influence, he shouldn't be any less than Brent. But she still worried about James, a wife's instinct to fear for her husband's safety.
Tobias didn't catch on to James's intentions and laughed heartily, looking at James with even more disdain and mockery. In Tobias mind, James was just a loser.
Normally, Tobias wouldn't even bother with someone like James, feeling it would tarnish his status.
However, now, for Jennifer's sake, Tobias decided to 'pretend to help James' and said, "You want to meet Mr. Lewis? Well, that's possible. It just so happens that I'm quite familiar with Mr. Lewis; we're good friends. Coincidentally, the day after tomorrow, there's an exclusive auction in Starlight State attended only by distinguished guests. Mr. Lewis will be there, and if you manage to get in, you'll be able to meet him."
As expected, Tobias's words aligned closely with what James had anticipated.
It piqued James's interest.
After a brief pause, Tobias continued, "However, here's a warning. This auction requires an entrance fee. It's not much, just three hundred thousand dollars. As long as you can produce the three hundred thousand dollars for the entrance fee, you'll be able to get in and participate."
Dennis drew a sharp breath upon hearing this, utterly astonished by the exorbitant entrance fee of three hundred thousand dollars for an auction.
Valentin asked, "Dennis, can James come up with thirty thousand dollars?"
"Well..." Dennis chuckled awkwardly, "Three hundred thousand dollars is not a big deal for James. It's just that there's no need to attend. What's the point of an auction when you can buy anything online nowadays?"
Tobias immediately showed a disdainful expression and mocked, "Mr. Johnson, that's a commoner's mindset. Do you think auctions sell TVs and clothes? They sell items that ordinary people can't even touch, with the cheapest starting at ten million dollars. Can you come up with ten million dollars?"
"You!" Dennis was furious.
Tobias laughed and said, "Mr. Johnson, I'm not looking down on you; I'm just stating a fact. After all, in our country, those with assets over ten million dollars are less than one in ten thousand."
Dennis felt extremely uncomfortable hearing Tobias's words but couldn't argue back since he didn't have ten million dollars.
Dennis could only say to Valentin, "Valentin, your son is so sweet!"
Valentin could easily detect the sarcasm in his tone and became somewhat angered himself. Retorting, he said, "Your son-in-law is quite accomplished, being able to establish a medical clinic. The investment must be in the millions of dollars, right? Quite impressive for someone so young."
Dennis wanted to retort but was stopped by Kaitlyn's look.
Dennis was now quite perplexed, unable to comprehend why James, who was evidently very capable, was exhibiting such an uncharacteristically humble demeanor, which was entirely inconsistent with the impression he had of James's personality.
James wouldn't be provoked by this. Tobias was too insignificant to be taken seriously. He just didn't expect that Tobias would know Brent, which made things interesting.
This way, he wouldn't need to go through Walter to attend the auction and meet Brent.
"Three hundred thousand dollars is quite a lot, but it's worth it to meet Mr. Lewis," James said with a smile.
Tobias sneered inwardly. 'You think you can meet Brent? Dream on! Not to mention you, even I have only spoken to Brent two or three times. Strictly speaking, I don't even know him.'
Tobias originally didn't want to bother with James, but then he thought, James probably doesn't have much money. He might have to scrape together the three hundred thousand dollars, maybe even ask Dennis for it. If he took him there and he spent thirty thousand dollars without even seeing Brent, it was interesting.
Tobias thought Jennifer would probably be very disappointed in him too.
Honestly, Tobias hadn't thought much of Jennifer before, but seeing how beautiful she was now and married to James, it felt like a flower stuck in cow dung. He felt particularly unbalanced. Now, if he could cause some trouble between them, it was interesting.
Tobias thought that he could seize this opportunity to have sex with Jennifer.
