Chapter 386 James Appears

Since Elio met Jennifer, he’d always been the perfect gentleman, never saying anything outta line. But now, for the first time, gloom clouded his face.

Jennifer had already turned and left, missing his gloomy look. If she’d seen it, her good impression of Elio would’ve definitely taken a hit.

Jennifer didn’t catch it, but James, lurking in the corner, saw Elio’s face clear as day and totally got what was going on in his head.

James hadn’t really paid attention to Elio before and didn’t know who he was. But seeing Elio’s behavior now, it was obvious he was a sneaky, two-faced hypocrite. He acted all polite in front of Jennifer, but the second she looked away, his true colors showed—he was totally into her.

Elio took a deep breath, squashed his bad mood, quickly caught up with Jennifer, put on his gentlemanly face, and offered to drive her home..

He turned up the charm, making it hard to say no to him. But Jennifer refused again and ignored his enthusiasm to keep a distance. Her cold shoulder made Elio feel helpless, like trying to hug a cactus.

This helplessness only made him want to win her over even more.

His resolve got even stronger.

Sure, he was Jennifer’s blind date, but when he first heard from his family that they’d set him up with a divorced woman, he was super annoyed. He was a hotshot manager making a million bucks a year, only twenty-seven, and totally a promising young man. With his credentials, tons of amazing women were lining up for him, so why the heck was he on a blind date with a divorced chick?

He was pretty ticked at his family for setting this up, thinking they were messing with him. At first, he didn’t even wanna go to the blind date.

But then, he had some time off and nothing better to do, so he figured he’d humor his family, show up, have a meal, and then tell them it wasn’t gonna work out.

What really got him mad was that Jennifer was late. He waited a whole half hour, and she still hadn’t shown up. He was fuming and ready to say something nasty and bail as soon as she arrived.

But when he finally saw Jennifer, all his bad vibes—annoyance, impatience, and irritation—vanished. Jennifer was drop-dead gorgeous, and her cool, sorrowful vibe totally hooked him.

Now, as a mature guy with plenty of relationships under his belt, he wasn’t so shallow as to wanna marry Jennifer just because she was hot.

But the more he got to know her, the more he was drawn in. Jennifer wasn’t just beautiful; she was smart and cultured. Her cold, elegant demeanor especially captivated him, and he decided he had to marry her.

He was super confident in himself. With his skills and looks, he had a major edge and was sure he could win Jennifer over.

After a while, Elio realized Jennifer wasn’t feeling him at all and even told his relatives she wasn’t interested. That hit him hard. He felt embarrassed and pissed.

‘Just cause you’re hot, you think you can blow me off? You’re just a divorced chick, and on the contrary, I’m a young, rich man. You’re lucky I even agreed to this blind date. Who do you think you are to reject me?’ Elio fumed inside.

At that moment, Elio felt totally disrespected and furious. His genuine interest in Jennifer slowly morphed into a vengeful mission. Yeah, he wanted to win her over, mess with her, and then dump her. That was his payback for her ignoring him, and he was sure he could pull it off.

But now, even after he’d lowered himself so much, Jennifer still turned him down, which made him seething with rage.

Watching Jennifer stubbornly hop into a taxi without even a goodbye, his face twisted, and he kicked a nearby trash can hard, sending garbage flying everywhere. He stared in the direction Jennifer disappeared, his gaze turning icy.

“Jennifer, just wait. I’ll win you over, mess with you, and then dump you. No woman’s ever dared to disrespect me,” Elio muttered fiercely, then walked to his car. Just as he was about to open the door, he saw a guy walk to the passenger side, open the door, and sit inside.

He was stunned, frowned, and snapped, “Who the hell are you? Get out of my car!”

“If you don’t wanna die, just get in and drive.” The guy hid his right hand in his clothes, with something hard pressing from inside, looking a lot like a gun!

Elio’s gaze froze, his breathing got rapid, and his face went pale. His cocky attitude vanished. Swallowing hard, he said, “I don’t think we know each other, right?”

“We don’t, but someone doesn’t like you and sent me to deal with you. If you don’t wanna die, listen to me,” the guy threatened.

Hearing this, Elio got even more scared, his body shaking like a leaf. He didn’t dare say another word and quickly nodded, nervously did as he was told.

“Take it easy, man. Can you put the gun away first?” Elio forced a smile, cold sweat dripping down his forehead, clearly terrified.

He’d never been held at gunpoint before. Not freaking out completely was already a testament to his courage, considering he was just a civilian.

This guy was actually James. He came out after Jennifer left.

Jennifer didn’t see it, but he saw Elio’s true colors. To Jennifer, Elio was a huge threat, and there was no way he was leaving such a threat by her side.

Seeing James’s cold face and the strong killing vibe coming off him, Elio’s foot on the gas pedal trembled, and cold sweat kept pouring down his face. His mind was a mess, trying to figure out who he’d pissed off enough to send a hitman after him.

He’d never seen a hitman in real life. A spasm of horror just coursed through him.
