Chapter 74 Elena's Lovesickness

James didn't stay long at Carlos's place. After chatting with Edwin, he took his leave. The shop was busy, and Carlos didn't have time to entertain him, so he wasn't asked to stay.

Coincidentally, as soon as he returned downstairs, he ran into Elena. She came down to dump trash.

Elena, upon seeing him, immediately exclaimed, "James, it's you! I sent you messages these past few days, inviting you over for dinner at my place. Why didn't you reply?"

Upon hearing this, James felt a bit embarrassed. His phone was an outdated model, which was very slow the volume was low.

He often missed calls, especially with the abundance of spam messages nowadays, so he usually didn't pay much attention and missed Elena's messages.

He explained, "Ernes, did you message me? Sorry, my phone was lagging, and I often missed message notifications." James took out his phone and tried to check, but to his embarrassment, it froze and then powered off.

Elena's disappointment faded from her face, replaced by a smile. "So, you didn't see the messages. I thought you were ignoring me, Ernes," she said, relieved.

She had been at home all day, still dressed in silk pajamas, exuding a mature charm that would captivate many men. Elena possessed a distinctive allure, exuding beauty, fullness, and sensuality.

Her complexion appeared to exude a dewy radiance at the slightest touch. Such a woman was highly tempting to men.

James chuckled, and said, "Why would I ignore you?"

Elena asked, "Are you free now?"

"Yes." James nodded. Being unemployed, he had plenty of free time, especially now that his marriage with Jennifer had fallen apart.

Elena's face lit up. She insisted on inviting him over, "Then come over for dinner tonight. I haven't properly thanked you for last time."

James hesitated, and said, "That's not necessary. We're neighbors; helping each other is natural."

She said, "Why not? It's decided. You're coming over for dinner tonight. I'll cook and thank you properly. No more refusal, or else I'll get angry."

Elena pretended to be upset, taking a couple of steps forward and pushing James against the wall, who had no choice but to agree.

Dennis and Kaitlyn happened to be out at a friend's place, so James stayed at home until 6:30 when he received a call from Elena informing him that dinner was almost ready.

James changed into clean clothes and went to Elena's house, only to find her just starting to cook. He was surprised, "Ernes, didn't you say dinner was almost ready?"

Elena flashed a mischievous smile, and replied, "Did I say that? Is not that you coming early?"

James was speechless.

"Help me tie my hair; I have oil on my hands." Elena tossed her hair back and asked James for help.

"Um... Ernes, I don't know how to tie hair," James explained and was also hesitant.

Elena turned back, puzzled, "It's simple. Haven't you helped your wife with her hair before?"

That question made him contemplate. He had never helped Jennifer with her hair; she disliked him so much she wouldn't let him do such intimate things.

Seeing James's embarrassed expression, Elena was surprised. "Really? You've never helped your wife with her hair?" she remarked,

"She usually doesn't let me touch her hair," James said and smiled wryly.

Elena's eyes showed a hint of curiosity. Turning away, she said, "Well, now's your chance to practice. It's simple: gather my hair and clip it with a hairpin."

James couldn't refuse and complied. As he picked up a nearby hairpin and approached, he caught a whiff of Elena's enticing scent, triggering his hormones and stirring some inappropriate thoughts.

He quickly composed himself, pushed away the distractions, and boldly gathered Elena's hair. He noticed her ears turning red and her breath quickening, and asked, "Ernes, are you feeling hot?"

Elena gasped, "Yes, a bit."

James nodded and said, "Done."

Elena rolled her eyes, thinking James was clueless, wondering how he managed to marry someone as beautiful as Jennifer.

"Thank you." Elena said as she smiled sweetly, "See, it's quite simple."

Watching Elena in her apron, bustling around the kitchen, James felt a warm feeling inside. Suddenly, he wondered how Jennifer would look in an apron.

After so many years of marriage, Jennifer had never cooked a meal for him.

Seeing James lost in thought, Elena's heart raced. Had James, the nerd, finally awakened?

Since that day, Elena couldn't shake James from her mind. Every night, she would think of him before falling asleep.

She had never experienced such feelings before. After researching online, she realized it was lovesickness that troubled her deeply.

Initially reluctant to accept this fact, she tried hard to erase James from her mind, but the more she tried, the clearer and more profound his image became!

Especially in the past few days, she even started dreaming about James. Last night, she had a dream so embarrassing that she woke up with a wet quilt.

She began to admit that she had indeed fallen for this man younger than her.

She was never a calm person; otherwise, she wouldn't have married a scoundrel like Ernest. Her emotions were intense, stronger than most women.

The day James saved her in front of Stanley and the others, he captured her heart.

The more she felt this way, the more she wanted to be close to James. Just being near him, even without doing anything, made her feel content.

So now, seeing James lost in thought, her heart surged with various emotions, and she felt nervous. Just then, as she was peeling potatoes, lost in thought, she accidentally cut her finger and exclaimed, "Ah!"

Startled, James rushed over, and asked, " Elena, you're bleeding. Where are the band-aids? Let me get it for you."

"In the second drawer of the TV cabinet," Elena replied.

James nodded, fetched the band-aid, tore it open, and handed it to Elena, saying, "Put it on your wound; otherwise, it might get infected by bacteria."

Elena complied, feeling a warm sensation in her heart.

"James, you're so gentle. Jennifer is lucky to have you," Elena said and then sighed sincerely.

James chuckled, and replied, " Elena, you're mistaken. She never considered herself lucky."

Elena's expression shifted, and she cautiously asked, "Why would you think like that? Are you and Jennifer having some issues?"

After a moment of thought, James said, "In fact, Jennifer and I are planning to divorce."

"What?!" Elena exclaimed, her eyes widening. Her heart, which had just calmed down, raced like never before. "Is it true?"

"It's highly likely." James sighed.

Elena blurted out, "That's great!"

James's expression froze, "Elena, are you joking?"

"No, no." Elena hurriedly shook her head, "I misspoke. I meant it's such a pity. Jennifer really doesn't know how to cherish a man like you, it is her biggest loss."

Though she said those words, she couldn't hide the smile hanging on her face.

James was perplexed; Elena's behavior today was far from normal.
