Chapter 14 Work Comes First

"I'll handle this." Samuel pushed the door open and stepped out of the car, his long legs extending outside.

Layla was still sitting on the road, dazed and confused.

She suddenly felt a tall figure blocking the light above her, making it hard to see his face against the backlight.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't mean to hit you..." Layla explained.

Layla kept apologizing. As she hurried to get up, she finally saw Samuel's face clearly, and her expression changed dramatically. She remarked, "It's you again!"

Ever since she met Samuel, all bad things seemed to be related to him.

"You hit me. I should be the one saying that." Samuel's voice was cold. The turmoil in his heart didn't show on his face, which remained as stoic as ever.

Layla was left speechless, feeling deeply hurt.

She didn't want to get entangled with Samuel any further and decided to leave. So, she picked up her small electric scooter.

"Do you think you can just leave after hitting me?" Samuel pressed down on the scooter's handlebars.

"Give me the repair bill later, and we'll talk about compensation. You can always find me, right?" Her last sentence carried a hint of sarcasm.

Samuel said, "There's no need to wait. Let's settle it now."

Layla could only accept her bad luck and glared at him, asking, "How much?"

Samuel replied, "Five hundred thousand dollars."

"What?" Layla exclaimed. "I scratched a bit of paint! Are you robbing me?"

Samuel explained, "This car is the only one of its kind in the world, worth fifty million dollars. It needs to be shipped back to Germany for repainting. Five hundred thousand dollars is not too much."

Layla panicked as soon as she hit the car, and she knew Rolls-Royces were expensive.

She asked, "How can you afford such a nice car?"

"It's nothing to do with you. The issue is your reckless driving," Samuel said, finding her nervous little face amusing, and he couldn't help but want to scare her.

"I..." Layla bit her lip helplessly. "I don't have that much money. Can I pay in installments?"

Samuel asked, "What do you think?"

"It's possible. After all, you're so wealthy," Layla muttered without much confidence.

He asked, "Do you think that because I'm very rich, you don't have to pay at all?"

"If you think it's unnecessary, I won't insist," Layla's voice trailed off to a whisper, feeling a bit guilty.

Samuel sneered. "Rest assured. I don't think that way."

'Petty,' Layla couldn't help but curse him in her heart.

She was too naive, believing such a person might have some kindness, but he was merely trying to squeeze her dry.

Samuel found her changing expressions particularly endearing.

Then he noticed her calf was scratched and still bleeding. He furrowed slightly as he said, "Get in the car."

However, Layla was scared and tried to back away.

Samuel added, "To the hospital."

"Hospital?" Layla was confused, thinking he was going to take her to the police station.

Layla looked down at her calf and shook her head indifferently. She refused, "It's a small injury. There's no need for the hospital. I have urgent matters to attend to. I won't run away from my debt..."

Before she could finish, Samuel forcibly picked her up and put her in the car.

She asked, "Hey, what are you doing? I need to deliver some documents."

"To the hospital," Samuel said firmly.

"I don't have time. I need to deliver the documents to Mr. Smith at Laic Group by four o'clock. The scooter isn't mine. I can't leave it here," Layla said anxiously.

"Don't you understand what's the priority?" Samuel asked.
She replied, "Of course, work comes first!"

Layla said excitedly, "Landing a job is tough. Getting into The Holland Group is incredibly difficult. I have to seize this opportunity."

Samuel was shocked by her determination so soon after starting her job.

She was strong yet naive.

"So, between work and going to the hospital, I choose to complete my work," Layla said seriously and firmly.
