Chapter 689 Fermenting

This whole mess wasn't over yet; the gossip mill was still churning, and everyone at Eilish Group was buzzing about it.

In the ladies' room, a few women were chatting away.

"How come Juniper hasn't been canned after screwing up so bad? She's got some serious luck."

"Luck? More like she's just hot. Being pretty is such a cheat code. Even losing the company tens of thousands doesn't get her a slap on the wrist."

"She keeps saying there's an investigation. How can she be so sure? Does she think we're all dumb?"

"Yeah, someone's definitely got her back."

"Who?"

"I heard it's Mr. Eilish."

"Who told you that?"

"I dunno. The rumor just popped up. No clue who started it."

"Yeah, makes sense. Besides Mr. Eilish, who else could cover up such a big screw-up?"

"Oh my God, even Mr. Eilish? Juniper's cute, but not that cute."

"Mira, you were there. What really went down?"

"Yeah, Mira, spill the tea. We won't tell anyone."

"Yeah."

"This was Mr. Eilish's call. I can't say much." Mira didn't say much, but the hint was clear—it was Anthony.

"It really was Mr. Eilish!"

"Doesn't Juniper already have Mr. Woods? So, she's playing two guys at once? That's wild."

"I always thought something was fishy between her and Mr. Eilish. She flirts with him all the time. It's too much."

"Stealing our dream guy, how awful! This kind of woman should be taken away by the Grim Reaper!"

"Despise her."

They all trashed her, but when Juniper walked in, they shut up real quick. Talking smack to her face was a bit too much.

They exchanged looks and bailed, while Mira kept fixing her hair in the mirror.

"Even though you hate me, using the company's interests to screw me over is too much. I didn't think you'd be so low," Juniper said.

Mira smirked. "You lost the contract yourself but blame me? Who's really low here, Juniper? Got any proof I lost your contract? The fact is, it was lost on your watch, so it's all on you."

Juniper shot back, "Yeah, it's my fault for not watching out for you. But the truth will come out. Mr. Eilish said he'd investigate, and you won't get away with it."

Anthony was sharp, but Mira was sneaky. She did her dirt where there were no cameras and no witnesses, so Anthony wouldn't find out. Unless he made up evidence to save Juniper.

But Mira didn't think Anthony would do that. The guy she liked wouldn't be so shady.

Mira snapped back, "The innocent have nothing to fear. Why should I be scared of an investigation? But you, if they can't clear your name, not even Mr. Eilish can save you. You've already dragged Mr. Eilish's name through the mud. If you don't quit, you wanna ruin his rep completely?"

Juniper said, "Why should I leave if I did nothing wrong? Mr. Eilish isn't protecting me; he's just fair and willing to believe in me. He's standing on the side of justice. Mira, it's not too late to come clean to Mr. Eilish. I'll even put in a good word for you."

"Plead for me?" Mira laughed like she just heard the funniest joke ever. "I've been with this company for years, and everyone knows I'm the real deal. You're just a newbie, and you think you can say stuff like that? I need you to plead for me?"

Juniper shot back, "Just 'cause you've been here forever doesn't mean you get to play dirty. Actually, since you've been here so long, screwing over the company is even worse. This is your last chance."

Mira wondered if Juniper was dumb or if she thought Mira was dumb. If Mira confessed now, even if she didn't end up in jail, she'd definitely get booted from the company, and no one else would hire her.

Plus, she didn't buy that Juniper would plead for her; Juniper would probably just stomp on her a few times.

Since Mira swiped the contract, she never planned on turning back, let alone confessing.

"Just wait, Juniper. The one getting kicked out will be you," Mira said coldly and walked off.

Because of this, Juniper's mood was trashed for the rest of the afternoon. She kept replaying everything in her head, trying to figure out when Mira swiped her contract and how she made it disappear. She had some ideas but couldn't be sure.

Frustrated, she scratched her head.

Going up against a sneaky and careful opponent, finding proof of her crime wasn't gonna be easy.

By the time she clocked out, Juniper was still stewing.

At the company entrance, Ronnie was leaning against his sports car, looking all cool, waiting for her. But Juniper walked right past him, head down.

Ronnie grumbled, "Hey, you didn't even look at me. Am I invisible or something?"

Tons of girls had given him admiring looks as they came and went. But Juniper didn't even glance at him, totally ignoring him, which stung.

"I didn't notice," Juniper mumbled, lost in her thoughts.

"What's up? You look down. Did someone mess with you? Who's messing with my girl? They looking for trouble? I'll sort them out!" Ronnie said, ready to storm into the company.

"Don't be silly!" Juniper stopped him. "Let's go."

Seeing she was genuinely upset, Ronnie didn't push it and opened the car door for her.

While driving, he kept sneaking glances at her. She was sitting there, head down, looking all lost.

Ronnie asked, "What's wrong? You look so down, with that pretty little face all scrunched up. It's breaking my heart."

"Nothing..." Juniper said softly.

Ronnie shot back, "When a girl says nothing, it means there's something."

"Telling you won't help."

"How won't it help? No matter how big the problem is, just tell me, and I can fix it!" Ronnie said, all confident.

Juniper moved her lips. Ronnie did have the power. With one word, he could make Mira disappear from Eilish Group. But because of that, she couldn't tell him.

Mira had wronged her, but Juniper didn't want to ruin her completely. She just wanted justice for herself. How to deal with Mira was up to Anthony and the company, not her.

And Ronnie was an outsider; she couldn't let him get involved.

"Tell me, please?" Ronnie coaxed her. Seeing her so down made him feel terrible too.
