Chapter 754 Project Personnel Change
In the morning, Juniper mustered up great courage to come to KD Corporation.
Inside the president's office.
When she entered, Anthony was reading some documents.
This place gave Juniper some bad memories. Here, she felt like a mistress and had been slapped hard by Hera.
Although the red mark on her face had faded, it was still a bit swollen and faintly painful. It felt like it was branded under her skin, constantly reminding her.
Anthony finished with the documents and then looked up at her. She usually wore her hair in a ponytail, but now she let it down to cover half of her face.
No need to ask, it was to cover that mark.
He felt very guilty for letting her suffer.
This couldn't go on. Hera definitely wouldn't cancel the engagement.
He had already been dragged into hell by her, and it was his own fault. He couldn't drag Juniper into it as well.
Besides, she had already moved on, and he didn't need to persist anymore.
Juniper had just taken out the documents when she heard Anthony say, "From now on, you'll be working on this project with the project director, Jason."
Juniper paused. This arrangement was probably to avoid any more misunderstandings.
That was fine; Hera wouldn't allow her to be around Anthony, and she herself wanted to distance from him.
She didn't say anything, just nodded, put the documents back in her bag, and said, "Okay."
Then she turned and left.
Anthony, however, felt inexplicably frustrated.
He leaned back in his chair, feeling annoyed.
Brenda's call came in at that moment. Anthony knew what it was about and didn't want to answer.
But out of courtesy, he still picked up.
"Mom."
"Are you working? It's daytime over there, right?"
"Yeah."
"When are you coming back? Is it in a couple of days?"
"Not that soon." Anthony closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose to relax. But his tense heart couldn't relax.
"Didn't Hera already go over to pick you up? I thought you two would be back soon. The wedding is less than half a month away."
"I know."
"I can help, but there are many decisions that you and Hera need to make."
"Yeah."
"What's wrong? You sound tired."
"A bit." It was emotional exhaustion.
"The wedding is almost here. You should put work aside for now. Didn't you say you only needed to check on the new company over there and would be back in a week? It's been two weeks now."
At that time, he hadn't met Juniper yet.
But actually, the new company didn't need him to be there personally. He just wanted an excuse to escape the chaos at home and avoid the wedding.
But he couldn't escape. Now things were even more chaotic.
"We have our own arrangements."
"That's good, but..."
"Mom, if I cancel the wedding..."
"Cancel the wedding? At this time? Didn't you think it through before?"
"The invitations have already been sent out, and your wedding is very grand. The whole city knows about it. Canceling it suddenly would be irresponsible."
"Anthony, how did I teach you? Relationships are not a game, and neither is a wedding... You can't..."
Listening to Brenda's endless nagging, Anthony felt even more frustrated. "Alright, I know. I was just saying."
"You wouldn't say it casually. You really have this thought, don't you? Anthony, I don't interfere with your marriage, but since the wedding is near, you can't do something so irresponsible."
"Yeah."
"Pre-wedding jitters are normal. You need to find a way to adjust your emotions and overcome it. Or see a therapist?"
What he was about to face was a lifelong bondage. Seeing a therapist wouldn't help.
"I'm fine. Let's leave it at that." Anthony hung up.
He seemed to see a dark abyss waiting for him. Jumping in would mean eternal damnation, never to be reborn.
Meanwhile, Juniper quietly waited in the downstairs office.
Not having to face Anthony made her feel much more relaxed.
As she waited, the door opened. She turned around and saw, "Brice?"
Brice was holding some documents. "How about it? Surprised?"
"Why is it you and not Jason?"
"Jason is my friend. He happened to take sick leave, so I volunteered to take over this project." Brice seemed very happy.
But Juniper was a bit worried. Anthony... he probably wouldn't like her getting too close to Brice. He wouldn't cause trouble for Brice, would he?
"What's wrong? This isn't what I expected. I thought you'd be as happy as I am. I'm so disappointed. You don't want to see me, huh? Looks like it was my wishful thinking."
"No, I didn't mean that." Juniper didn't know what to say.
Forget it, no need to worry about that now. Anthony had Hera, so he probably wouldn't have time to deal with things here.
"Whether you like it or not, you'll have to face my handsome face for the next few months." Brice joked, "Beautiful Ms. Cooper, I look forward to working with you."
He extended his hand, and Juniper smiled and shook it.
She liked humorous men.
They also worked well together, showing an incredible level of synergy in their first collaboration. They shared similar ideas on many issues, which was rare and made the work very enjoyable.
"I always knew you were both talented and beautiful, but working with you today, I can't help but give you a thumbs up. Women nowadays are amazing. If they were all like you, we men would have to stay home and take care of the kids."
"It's not that exaggerated." With work going smoothly, Juniper was in a good mood.
"It is. I've worked with many female colleagues, and they are all excellent. But... you're still a bit better."
"Thanks for the compliment."
"Just speaking the truth, not a compliment."
Brice glanced at his watch. "It's about time. Let's go eat."
"Now that we're working on the same project, isn't it inappropriate..."
After all, there were rumors that they were a couple.
"You mean to avoid any more misunderstanding?"
"Yeah." Juniper nodded. She was already a bit worried and didn't want to stir up more trouble.
"In my opinion, avoiding any more misunderstanding is just self-deception. Even if we separate, people in the company will still talk. They will just change their narrative, and it might be even worse. You can't control what others say."
Juniper nodded in agreement. "That's true. It's your fault for talking nonsense."
"Yeah, my bad. To sincerely express my apology, I'll cover your lunch for the next few months."
"That's not necessary. I can afford my own meals." Juniper teased.
"But it's my honor to treat a beautiful lady to lunch. At least let me treat you this week. No refusals."
Juniper smiled helplessly, unable to argue with him. "Alright, let's go. My stomach is growling."
