Chapter 653: Having a Boy or a Girl
"What did you just say? Juniper cheated? With who?" Douglas snapped, his voice dripping with anger.
He sounded like his own girlfriend had just cheated on him. Clearly, he still had feelings for Juniper.
Saffron, on the other hand, always looked down on Juniper. She knew Juniper was prettier and more favored by Aaron. If she hadn't toughened up and slept with Douglas, even going as far as to repair her hymen, she might not have won him over.
When you snatch something, you always worry it might get taken away.
Saffron wasn't dumb; she knew Douglas was using his dad's illness as an excuse to delay their wedding. He wanted to see if she'd have a son or a daughter.
If she had a daughter, she was toast; Douglas wouldn't marry her.
Thinking about all this drove Saffron nuts. She wanted to trash Juniper's reputation; even if Douglas married someone else, it couldn't be Juniper.
Juniper's life had to be a thousand times worse than hers, or she wouldn't be satisfied.
"I-I don't know the guy. I just saw some dude in a sports car dropping Juniper off. I was taking a pic of the moon for you and caught them by accident."
"You got a pic? Send it to me."
"I-I'm not sure. What if I was wrong?"
"Send it to me!" Douglas barked, losing patience.
"Okay, but don't jump to conclusions about Juniper... Maybe I really was mistaken," Saffron said, pretending to be concerned while sending the photo.
When Douglas saw the pic, it felt like his brain was about to explode. He called back, yelling, "They were hugging and kissing, and you think you might be mistaken?"
Saffron thought, 'I'm not the one juggling two guys, so why are you yelling at me?'
She rolled her eyes but spoke softly, "Isn't Juniper with Mr. Eilish? With such a high-profile boyfriend, why would she..."
"She's a slut, a total slut," Douglas spat out. "A chick who goes to bars to pick up guys can't be any good. I gotta expose her true colors."
This was exactly what Saffron had been waiting for. She wasn't dumb enough to confront Juniper herself; she'd use Douglas as her weapon.
"So, how are you gonna expose her? Tell Mr. Eilish?"
"Of course. Juniper's so proud of being with Anthony and even mocks me. I wanna see how cocky she is after Anthony dumps her!"
"Honey, isn't that too harsh? Maybe we shouldn't..."
"Don't worry about it. Get some rest, I'll handle it," Douglas said, hanging up the phone impatiently.
Saffron let out a cold, eerie laugh.
Meanwhile...
"Honey, what's wrong?" A pair of arms wrapped around Douglas's neck from behind. The woman was young, beautiful, and had a sweet voice.
"Nothing," Douglas said, taking a hard drag on his cigarette, feeling irritated.
Juniper, she was a bitch. What pissed him off was that she was willing to sleep with other guys but not with him, always acting so high and mighty.
Douglas always felt a sense of dissatisfaction with Juniper because he hadn't slept with her. If he had, he wouldn't care what she did. But the fact that he hadn't gotten her was like a feather tickling his heart, making him constantly agitated.
"Get some rest, you're pregnant," Douglas said impatiently.
"You knew I was pregnant and still went so hard just now. Honey, when are you gonna marry me?"
"We'll talk about it later."
"I'm already pregnant, and you still say 'later'? How am I supposed to explain this to my family when my belly gets big? Do you not want to marry me because my family isn't powerful?" she snapped, her frustration boiling over.
"That's not it," Douglas frowned, trying to keep his cool.
"So, if I have a daughter, you'll dump me; if I have a son, you'll marry me, right?" She pouted, "I know what you're thinking. I've seen enough of those rich family dramas; they all play out like this."
Douglas cursed "idiot" in his mind.
Originally, if someone were to get pregnant for him, it would have to be a rich heiress. But since it happened unexpectedly, he decided to take a gamble.
He had a gut feeling that Saffron was carrying a daughter, and this woman was carrying a son.
Right now, whether it's a boy or a girl was more important to him than whether he married a rich heiress.
"Go to sleep and stop overthinking," Douglas sent her off to bed.
At that moment, the private investigator he hired also sent him Anthony's phone number.
He immediately sent the photo over.
Douglas sneered, 'Juniper, you want to dump me and become Mrs. Eilish? Dream on.'
Late at night.
In a quiet, spacious duplex house.
Anthony stared blankly at the screen, his fingers on the keyboard unmoving.
He was distracted.
He glanced at his phone, which hadn't rung.
He wondered how she was doing, whether she was safe with Ronnie.
Anthony felt a bit regretful, 'I shouldn't have let her go earlier.'
He never liked competing, especially not over a woman, and certainly not in front of the whole company. He found such behavior foolish and damaging to the company's image.
However, after coming home, he couldn't stop thinking about her and worrying about her situation.
Should he call to check on her?
But what right did he have to be concerned about her?
Would she misunderstand and think he liked her?
Liked her? Anthony's heart skipped a beat.
No, he still had feelings for Layla, so it was impossible for him to like Juniper. But why was he so unsettled?
Looking around the empty house, it felt eerily quiet for the first time. If she were here, she'd be chirping away like a little bird. Though it was noisy, he had to admit it was much livelier.
Well, as her boss, it was reasonable to call and check on her.
Anthony found an excuse for himself and was about to call when a text message came in. It was a photo.
A photo of Juniper and Ronnie kissing, right in front of the Cooper family house.
Anthony's mind buzzed as if it had been hit by a bomb.
She had gotten so close to Ronnie so quickly...
Didn't she say she liked him? How could she...
Was she a loose woman?
Anthony clenched his phone, feeling agitated. But he didn't explode in anger. He took a deep breath and believed Juniper wasn't a amorous person.
Forcing himself to look closely at the photo, he noticed it seemed like Ronnie had suddenly ambushed Juniper. Her expression was one of surprise, as if she was caught off guard. They weren't kissing; he was kissing her cheek.
Anthony's tense mood eased a bit, but not completely.
He shouldn't have let her be alone with that playboy; otherwise, she wouldn't have been taken advantage of Ronnie. Even though it was just a cheek kiss, Anthony still felt very uncomfortable, as if something gummy was stuck in his throat.
Seeing the photo, he felt there was no need to call her. But his hand betrayed his thought, dialing her number.
