Chapter 570 Begging on Their Knees
"Caleb, I'm begging you..." Grace clung to Caleb's leg like her life depended on it, tears streaming down her face.
"Let go!" Caleb snapped.
"Please, don't be so heartless... I really love Candy... Caleb, you'll be the death of me... Caleb, please..." Grace sobbed like there was no tomorrow.
But Caleb's eyes were ice-cold, filled with disgust. "You should've thought of this earlier, Grace. You don't deserve my forgiveness, and you sure as hell don't deserve Candy. Get lost!"
"No, Caleb... I can lose everything, but I can't lose Candy... I gave birth to her... Do you want me to die? Caleb..."
"Then die somewhere else, just not in front of me!" Caleb shoved her away again.
"Caleb, Caleb!" Grace chased after him, tripping and falling to the ground, watching helplessly as he got into his car.
"Caleb—" she cried out in agony.
A few bystanders couldn't take it anymore and went to help her up. "Get up, honey."
"How pitiful."
"Your husband's a real piece of work."
"Caleb... Candy..." Grace cried uncontrollably.
At the Eilish Group.
"Ms. Wilson, Ms. Wilson?" The assistant called out a few times before Susan snapped out of it.
"Hmm?"
"Ms. Wilson, this is the third time you've spaced out today."
"Really?"
"Yeah, and you've been grinning to yourself like a lovesick teenager. Are you in love?" The assistant teased.
"Don't pry into my private life." Susan shook her head but couldn't hide her smile.
"Who is it? Who's the lucky guy?"
"No one."
"Come on, don't lie to me. I'm a love expert. A woman in love can't hide it; your face is glowing."
"Let's get back to work." Susan signed the contract and handed it back to the assistant.
"No wonder they say love is the best beauty treatment. Ms. Wilson, you're glowing today."
Really? Maybe.
When she looked in the mirror this morning, Susan was surprised by her radiant complexion.
Despite staying up late the past two nights, she looked fresh and glowing. When you're in a good mood, your skin shows it.
Thinking about it, these past two days have been the happiest she's had in a long while.
A son, a daughter, and another baby on the way—what could be more perfect?
"See, you're smiling to yourself again." The assistant said.
"Let's have the meeting." Susan picked up the documents and stood up.
Just as Susan walked out of the office, Grace suddenly burst in, "Susan—"
A scream startled everyone in the office, and a dozen pairs of eyes turned to her.
When Grace rushed over, Susan thought she was going to attack, so she quickly grabbed a vase for self-defense. But Grace suddenly dropped to her knees, pleading desperately, "Susan, please give Candy back to me, okay? Please. Susan."
Susan was stunned. Was this still Grace?
But this woman was sly; she had to be acting.
"Get up."
"I won't get up, Susan, please."
With everyone watching, Susan felt super embarrassed.
"Get up and come into my office, Grace!" Susan dragged Grace inside, her eyes sharp. "What game are you playing now?"
"I'm not playing any games; I just want Candy." Grace sobbed, "I went to the preschool to see her today, but Caleb wouldn't let me near her. He even threatened to ruin the Bailey Group if I didn't stay away."
Susan sneered, "Given your past, Caleb's right. Who knows if you'll hurt Candy again."
"I won't. I was out of my mind before; I would never hurt my own daughter. I've been locked up for a month, and I've come to my senses. I really regret it, Susan. I know I can't win custody, but I just want visitation rights. Can you talk to Caleb for me?" Grace reached out to grab Susan's hand, but Susan pulled back like she was dodging a snake.
"Get out. I'm not helping you."
"No, no, you're the only one who can help me now. Caleb listens to you. If you plead for me, he'll show mercy."
"I said no. I won't give you the chance to hurt Candy again."
On this, Susan and Caleb were on the same page.
"I won't hurt Candy. I've truly repented. If you don't believe me, I can prove it." Grace reached for the fruit knife on the table.
"You're nuts." Susan grabbed it first, "Look at you. You're a mess. No way you can be near Candy."
"No, I'm not unstable, I'm just desperate. Susan, you're a mom too. Even if you hate me, you can understand my pain. Candy is a part of me. Hearing her call someone else 'mom' breaks my heart."
"But there's nothing I can do. I have to pay for my past mistakes. I just hope Candy doesn't forget me, doesn't ignore me, doesn't erase me from her memory. That's all I ask."
"I can see her once a week, no, once every two weeks. Just don't keep me from seeing her, or I'll really die, Susan."
"Please."
Susan wasn't sure if Grace was acting, but if her words were true, as a mother, she could understand Grace's despair.
Just like when Caleb tried to take Oliver away, she thought she was doomed. She even considered suicide.
"Grace, you're in a bad place now. But everyone has to pay for their actions. Crying won't help. Since Caleb won't let you see Candy, don't see her. Candy doesn't need to remember a mother who abused her."
"No, Susan, don't do this to me. I know you still hate me. I'll kneel and apologize to you, okay?"
Grace knelt down and started banging her head on the floor, her forehead bleeding.
"Grace, stop this." Susan couldn't stand it.
"Please." Grace's forehead was covered in blood.
Susan felt sympathy for Grace. Grace was begging her as a desperate, broken mother. And as a mother herself, her empathy was overwhelming.
"Kneeling won't help. Leave, I won't ask Caleb for you."
"If you don't agree, I'll keep kneeling, even if I die here today." Grace cried and continued to bang her head, staining the carpet with blood.
