Chapter 901 Accept with Open Arms
Juniper replied, "I'm currently working in the project department at the Cooper Group."
"I heard the Cooper Group recently signed a big project with the Elise Group. Is that the one you're in charge of?"
Juniper nodded.
"Ruben, your daughter-in-law is amazing! She's not only beautiful but also a strong woman! Impressive!"
Throughout the dinner, Juniper was constantly being praised.
Ruben didn't say anything, but he felt very proud inside.
He had been keeping an eye on the Cooper Group's project department recently, and in just over a month, their performance had skyrocketed, with Juniper being the key contributor.
He had to admit, Juniper was very capable.
He didn't really need his daughter-in-law to be exceptionally strong or to help manage the Eilish Group in the future; that wasn't necessary at all.
But self-reliant and independent people are respected everywhere, especially young women.
Over time, Ruben's negative impression of Juniper had been gradually changing.
Now, he found her more pleasing to the eye, and with all the compliments around him, he felt very comfortable.
"Mr. Eilish," Juniper caught up with Ruben in the hallway, "this is a birthday gift for you. Happy birthday."
"Thank you," Ruben accepted it politely.
"It's not an expensive gift, just a simple cross pendant. I hope it brings you peace and good luck."
Ruben felt a warmth in his heart. Every year, he received many expensive gifts for his birthday, but this one was different; it represented thoughtfulness.
She's a considerate girl with high emotional intelligence.
"Thank you."
"I'm glad you like it." Juniper could clearly feel that Ruben's attitude towards her had softened.
On the way back, Anthony was very happy and talked a lot.
"You seem particularly happy tonight," Juniper said.
"Yeah, they all really like my girlfriend and kept praising you. Of course, I'm happy."
Juniper laughed, "Shouldn't I be the one who's happy? Why are you so happy?"
"You're my woman, so your honor is mine," Anthony, who had drunk quite a bit, said with a flushed face and bright, joyful eyes.
Juniper teased, "You men have quite the vanity too."
"It's because my girlfriend is so outstanding," Anthony kissed her fingers, "I really want to marry you right away."
"But you need to get your dad's approval first, right?"
"Didn't you notice my dad's attitude towards you was different tonight?"
"Maybe a little, but in that kind of setting, even if he had any dissatisfaction with me, he wouldn't show it. He might just be putting on a front..."
Anthony shook his head, "No, my dad is just proud on the outside but has already accepted you in his heart. And with all those relatives praising you, don't you think my dad felt very proud? Everyone cares about face."
"That makes sense. So, your relatives have become our allies?"
"Yes, although the result is the same, having external support is always good. Besides, more people giving their blessings is a good thing, isn't it?"
"Yes. As the old saying goes, a happy marriage is based on my dad's approval, my mom's approval, and the approval of your family and relatives. It seems we're close to overcoming your dad's hurdle."
Anthony's eyes sparkled, "Victory is in sight. I can soon marry my angel."
Holding her hand, he kissed it gently, full of happiness, "I'm sorry for the grievances you suffered before. I swear I'll make it up to you for the rest of my life."
He was so adorable with a bit of drunkenness.
Juniper smiled softly, "Being with you makes me very happy. I don't feel aggrieved at all."
"Let's stay together tonight, okay?" Anthony asked gently.
"Next time. Today is your dad's birthday, and it wouldn't be appropriate for you not to go home. We have plenty of time, no rush," Juniper coaxed him.
But Anthony clung to her like a child to his mother, sticking to her arm, "But I just want to be with you, not separated for even a second."
"Be good, don't be willful," Juniper stroked his face.
"But loving someone means wanting to be together all the time, right? It's been thirteen days since we last stayed together."
Juniper couldn't help but laugh, "You remember so clearly."
"Of course, every second apart from you is torture. I remember it well. You heartless person, you don't know how much I miss you."
Juniper's heart melted, "I miss you too."
"Then let's stay together," Anthony quickly said.
"No."
Anthony pouted and complained childishly, "You say you miss me, but you refuse to stay with me. Liar."
"Alright, alright, don't be willful, my little cutie. I'll go home, and you let the driver take you home. Be good, we'll stay together next weekend."
"Next weekend is so far away."
"It's okay."
"It's not okay."
Juniper had no way to deal with him, but in the end, she resisted his whining.
At night.
Ruben sat under the lamp, staring at the cross pendant in a daze.
"This pendant was given to you by Juniper, right?" Brenda walked over, smiling gently.
"How did you know?" Ruben asked.
"We've been married for so many years; don't I know you? Your eyes are a bit complicated, so I knew it was from Juniper. Since you like it, why resist?"
"It's not resistance, it's just..." Ruben sighed.
"I understand, but it's been so long. You should let go of your prejudice against Juniper. You heard it today; every relative praised her. There are many beautiful girls from good families, but not many are as independent and excellent as her. She relies on herself, and that's rare."
"You've seen enough of those girls who only know how to shop and think about marrying into a good family to be housewives. They're not as good as Juniper."
"Yes, objectively speaking, I agree with you. But..."
"Since you agree, don't overthink it. We're not perfect, so we can't expect Juniper to be perfect either. She's already doing very well. After all this time, you've seen how determined Anthony is to marry her. As parents, can we really go against our children? I don't think so."
"Besides, I'm becoming more and more satisfied with Juniper."
Ruben kept shaking his head, "You two have already sided with her. Whatever I say is useless."
"Yes, it's two against one now. Just admit defeat," Brenda joked, leaning into Ruben's arms, "Honey, the most important thing is that Anthony loves her. Juniper is Anthony's happiness. Don't insist on those unimportant things, okay?"
"Open your heart and accept this good daughter-in-law. You'll definitely grow to like her as much as I do."
