Chapter 264 Bloodline

"Why do you think I would want to have anything to do with you? You think too highly of yourself.

"Since you don't want to have anything to do with me, stop asking about Oliver's background. It doesn't matter whose child he is. He's definitely not yours. Caleb, I am doing well raising the child on my own," she replied.

"You're doing well? Who almost lost her son today and cried like a fool?"

Susan's face turned pale and her voice weakened slightly. "It was just an accident," she said.

"What? An accident? If it weren't for me, he would have already been sold overseas. You would never see him again. Susan, you're simply incapable of raising a child on your own. You're not a competent mother. You're just good with words!" Caleb said. It wasn't what he wanted to say, but he had to say it.

He knew she was a good mother. She was gentle yet strong, but she wasn't as strong as she had imagined. She wasn't as tough as she thought she was. She needed a man but she kept rejecting him, pushing him away.

Susan felt guilty and uneasy. She had done her best, but it wasn't enough. She couldn't even give Oliver the love he needed, let alone spend much time with him. But if she didn't work hard, she wouldn't earn money to support her child.

She owed Oliver a lot, but her life was also tough. If it weren't for him, she would still be living a luxurious life as a young lady. She would be protected by her parents and pursue her passion for design. She wouldn't have to work so hard. Her hands were calloused from all the work.

It was all Caleb's fault! He ruined her. He didn't deserve to accuse her with high and mighty words.

Thinking of these things, Susan raised her head and accused Caleb, "Caleb, everyone has the right to criticize me, except you. It was you who put me in this predicament."

"Me?" Caleb was shocked to hear her twisting the truth. "Did I force you to cheat on me? Did I force you to play with my feelings?"

If she hadn't betrayed him back then, he would have cherished her. She could have enjoyed a carefree life. It was her own refusal!

"It's meaningless to talk about this now. We already have a child, and I think you understand that the most important thing for parents is their child. You should consider our daughter, not just yourself. Have you ever thought about how disappointed she would be if she knew what happened between you and me?"

Caleb frowned.

Susan was cunning. She knew exactly how to win an argument with him.

Thinking of his daughter, Caleb felt guilty. He still had feelings for Susan; he felt like he was betraying his daughter.

Susan felt him loosening his grip. She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Only their daughter could bring him back to his senses. She had to stay rational too.

"Children are their parents' everything. Today, you saved Oliver, and I am truly grateful to you. I am willing to repay you even if it means impoverishing myself. However, I don't want to owe you a favor and don't want to have any more involvement with you. If we continue to be entangled like this, it would be harmful to you and your family."

"Susan, did you love me?" Caleb suddenly wanted to know the answer.

He had been pondering this question for four years. Many times, in his dreams, he hoped to get her answer.

Suan's heart skipped a beat.

She still felt a pang in her heart.

She had loved him. Of course she had. Oherwise, she wouldn't still be feeling so miserable now.

Otherwise, back then, she wouldn't have chosen to break ties with her family and raise the child alone.

He betrayed them. She, on the other hand, had never abandoned it.

In love, women were fools.

Susan lowered her eyes, and her eyelashes trembled.

"Answer me."

"It's all in the past. Your question is meaningless."

"I am the one who can decide whether it's meaningful or not. Look at me!" Caleb commanded.

"Lift your eyes. Look at me."

Susan took a deep breath and raised her gaze, calmly looking at him. "No."

Caleb's heart suddenly ached.

Her reply was the cruelest word in the world to him.

He loved her with all his heart and soul, but he couldn't get the same feelings from her. Instead, she played with him. This was the biggest setback in his life. She had hurt him deeply.

Caleb couldn't describe how disappointed he was at this moment. His mood was very heavy.

"Fine, you don't love me, but you're still with me."

Suan's gaze remained calm, as calm as the lake, without any ripples.

Her eyes made Caleb feel like a joke.

He must have gone crazy, otherwise, how could he willingly endure her humiliation?

Releasing her hand, Caleb sneered, "Fine, very well. You're ruthless enough.

"Susan, don't come back begging me in the future!" Caleb stormed out of the door and slammed the door hard.

The loud noise made the whole room shake.

Suan was exhausted. The next second, she thought of something and immediately went into Oliver's room. Oliver was already awake. She opened her eyes wide and looked at her. "Mommy, did that man leave?"

"Yeah. It was windy when I closed the door just now. Are you scared?"

"No. I've grown up. I'm not that easily scared."

"Mommy, is that man my dad?"

Susan could deceive Caleb. But facing her son's innocent eyes, she panicked. She couldn't lie.

"Mommy?"

"No, no he's not..." Suan dared not look into his eyes. She pretended to cover him with a blanket.

But Oliver understood. Even if the man just now wasn't her dad, he must have had a close relationship with his mother. His mother was hiding something from him. However, Oliver was clever. He didn't ask further, because he didn't want Susan to be in a difficult situation.

"Is he pursuing you?"

"We're just friends, you're overthinking it." Susan couldn't bring herself to tell Oliver that Caleb was already married because she could sense that her son would be very disappointed.

Over the years, Oliver had never asked about his father, but every time he saw a family of three, envy would show in his eyes. In such situations, Susan would feel uneasy.

She had thought about getting married again, even if the person had children. But she couldn't forget Caleb. She had been on blind dates and had people pursue her, but she couldn't force herself.

So, she was afraid to get involved with other men. She didn't want to give Oliver hope and then disappoint him.

"Oh." Oliver sighed. "I really like that man."

Like? Was it because of blood ties?

Susan couldn't help but ask, "Why do you like him?"

"Because he's handsome. If he went to my kindergarten, I would be so proud."

Susan couldn't help but laugh. Children's thoughts were often so simple.

"What's more, he looks very rich. I think he can give you money, then you won't have to work so hard and work overtime frequently. Although I also want to take care of you, but I'm still young and don't have money for now," Oliver said, a bit frustrated.

Susan's nose tingled. She caressed her son's cute little face. "Silly, I can take care of myself and take care of you. We're happy together, aren't we?"

"Yeah, Mommy, I'm enough with you." Oliver nodded vigorously. "I want to be with you forever, for a lifetime."

In a five-star hotel suite, men's and women's clothes are scattered all over the floor.

There was a certain special atmosphere in the air.

A woman with messy hair sat up from the bed with a slightly red face. A man immediately hugged her and wickedly nibbled on her ear. "Baby, are you happy?"
