Chapter 488 Who Leaked It?
"Mr. Eilish and his ex-wife's drama is causing a lot of buzz. If people find out about Dad's relationship with you, what will they think? Can Dad handle it? This should've been low-key, but you had to make it public. Susan, do you think you can do whatever you want just because Mr. Eilish backs you?"
Susan didn't expect May to blow up over the surgery's consequences.
She felt a chill in her heart.
She only cared about her dad's health and wanted to reconcile with him. She never linked the two issues or had any hidden motives.
Was her action easy to misinterpret, or was May just too cynical?
"May, how can you say that about me?"
Susan didn't care if others misunderstood her; she was too tired to explain. But being misunderstood by her own family hurt deeply.
"What you did makes people think that way. If you don't want me to misunderstand, cancel the surgery, and I'll handle it."
"I'm not canceling the surgery," Susan said firmly.
May gritted her teeth, feeling secretly annoyed. Susan was so eager to show off that reasoning with her was pointless. She realized she had been naive to hope for anything from Susan. Luckily, she had another plan.
Thinking this, May didn't want to waste more time and endure more frustration. With a cold face, she said, "Fine, you have your own ideas. Do whatever you want."
Susan opened her mouth but said nothing.
When Caleb returned, he noticed Susan looked a bit down.
"What happened? Didn't go well?"
Susan sighed and answered honestly, "May doesn't want Hubert to do the surgery on my dad. She's afraid Dad will owe you a favor, and it makes her uncomfortable. Am I really too selfish? I just want my dad to get better; I never thought about anything else."
"I know, I get you the best." Caleb patted her shoulder. "Since you can't agree and can't persuade each other, just do what you think is right. No matter what, I'm always here for you, your strongest support."
Caleb's words lightened the gloom May had brought.
Susan smiled.
"Looking at me like that, did you just realize I'm handsome?"
Anyone would think he was handsome at first glance.
But Susan wouldn't admit it, pouting. "It's not that I just realized you're handsome; it's that I just realized you're so full of yourself."
"This is called confidence, not narcissism."
Susan was speechless. Well, whatever handsome people say is right.
"Dinner will be here in five minutes."
"I'm not hungry."
"Even if you're not hungry, eat a little. How about opening a bottle of red wine to celebrate?" Caleb's eyes had a hint of teasing.
Thinking about the trouble she caused when she got drunk that night, Susan blushed. "Are you trying to mess with me?"
"Yes, I've always wanted to, and I want to tease you for a lifetime."
Susan was too lazy to mock his shamelessness. He took every chance to confess, and his so-called confession was just being a rogue.
Those women who were infatuated with him and saw him as the perfect partner should see how shameless he was in private.
That day, an unexpected guest came to Maurice's hospital room.
"Mr. Sanders." Maurice was a bit surprised to see Vice Principal Arnold Sanders.
Arnold came in with a fruit basket. "I heard you're having surgery soon, so I came to check on you."
Maurice knew Arnold wasn't being kind-hearted. Arnold had always schemed to replace him as principal, and they often clashed over school decisions.
"Mr. Wilson, how's your health?" Arnold asked, pulling up a chair.
"Very good, thanks for asking."
"You look worn out. Still worried about school? Don't stress, I've got everything under control. You're close to retirement, so you can start handing things over to me and focus on getting better."
Maurice caught the underlying message and replied, "I'm in good spirits and health. I'll be back at school right after the surgery."
"In such a hurry? Take your time to recover. If you end up back in the hospital, it would be worse. But it's impressive you got Dr. Diaz to do your surgery."
Maurice was startled. How did he know?
"I'm really envious of you having a capable future son-in-law like Mr. Eilish, who can arrange for a top doctor. Who would've thought Susan was pregnant with Mr. Eilish's child back then?"
"Susan's out-of-wedlock pregnancy was a huge scandal; the whole school knew. You almost lost your position as principal. Luckily, you were decisive and cut ties with her, which was admirable."
"It seems you're planning to reconcile with Susan? But think it through. The Eilish family is wealthy, but Mr. Eilish is in the spotlight for domestic violence and child abuse. If he becomes your son-in-law, what will people think of you, Mr. Wilson?"
Maurice's face showed a hint of anger. "That's my business; you don't need to worry about it."
"I'm just concerned as a colleague. You're upright and of high moral character, a role model. Don't let your reputation be damaged and bring trouble to yourself."
Maurice felt uneasy. If Hubert did the surgery, Arnold would spread it around the school and tarnish his reputation.
He could give up being principal, but the school must not fall into Arnold's hands, who only saw it as a money-making tool and didn't care about the students.
So, he couldn't have Hubert do the surgery.
Maurice made up his mind.
"I don't know where you heard that Dr. Diaz was doing my surgery. I'm looking for a domestic professor, and the surgery is still being arranged, with no connection to Caleb."
"Did I get the wrong info? I thought you were the most principled person I've ever met and would never break his bottom line to reconcile with Susan." Arnold feigned friendliness. "Since you haven't contacted a doctor yet, if you need any help, Mr. Wilson, feel free to ask me. I'm more than willing to help."
Maurice sneered inwardly, 'It's good enough if you don't harm me.' Arnold had used many underhanded tactics to try to pull him down from the principal's position. He wouldn't let him succeed.
"Then I won't disturb your rest. Take care of your health, and you can rest assured with the school in my hands, waiting for your good news of recovery."
Arnold left.
Maurice's face was somber.
To protect his reputation and prevent the school from falling into Arnold's hands, he couldn't have the surgery.
But the question was, who leaked the surgery information?
