Chapter 346 Double Pressure

But even under Fanny's pressure, Layla remained unmoved, her gaze as calm as a still lake. These people were simply not worth her attention. Therefore, they did not deserve to stir her emotions. It would be foolish to get upset over petty individuals and she wouldn't engage in such nonsense.

"I only do my job. Someone else’s work is none of my concern."

She tried to leave, but Fanny reached out to grab her. Layla raised her hand to shake it off, causing Fanny to lose her balance and stumble. If the others hadn’t caught her in time, she would have fallen.

Fanny was startled and her whole body went numb. She was instantly filled with anger and embarrassment. "Layla, how dare you push me?"

"You grabbed me first, and you were unstable," Layla said.

"You clearly pushed me," Fanny insisted.

"Yes, we all saw it. You pushed Fanny."

"You dared to push the president? How arrogant!" The crowd was indignant, their accusing voices rising one after another.

Fanny's eyes looked like they were popping out of her face. Her expression was very intimidating. "Layla, aren't you afraid I'll fire you?"

Layla actually smiled when she heard that.

She wasn't afraid of that at all.

Fanny might use some tricks against her, but firing her was out of the question.

'How would she explain that to Nora? Would Nora really let her off so easily?' she thought.

"Why are you smiling? Do you think I won't dare do it?"

"What are you afraid of, Fanny? Just fire her now," the others echoed.

"If you want to fire me, go ahead. I don't care!" Layla said nonchalantly before leaving.

"Layla." Fanny gritted her teeth, wishing she could crush her.

"Fanny, why are you keeping someone like that around? She must be dismissed."

"Yes, she dared to push you, so she clearly doesn't respect you."

"Shut up! I don't need you to teach me how to do anything!" Fanny roared fiercely, silencing them all.

"Layla, do you really think I won't dare do it?" Fanny muttered through gritted teeth, slamming the office door. She took a deep breath before making a call to Nora in a more gentle tone.

"Miss Eilish, why don’t we dismiss Layla?" Fanny cautiously inquired, her face turning pale with anger.

"Dismiss her?" Nora had just returned home. As she handed her LV bag to the maid, a hint of mockery played on her lips. "Is that all you can do?"

"She's so annoying, buzzing around me like a fly."

"Get this straight, did I ask you to deal with her, or is she dealing with you? She’s fine, but you’re the one who’s infuriated by her. Fanny, is this how you’re being competent?" Nora said.

"Miss Eilish, I just..."

"If you fire her, you’ll no longer be useful. Will Levi spare you?"

Fanny's heart skipped a beat. Levi would kill her. And it was only the first day. She hadn't even begun her retaliation.

"I'm sorry, Miss Eilish. I was impulsive. Rest assured. I will make Layla's life a living hell."

"Remember, the reason you became the CEO of Brightness Design Company is because you can deal with Layla. If you can't do that, then you’ll be useless to me."

"I understand," Fanny said. "But why go to such lengths to deal with a mere individual? Do you have some grudge against her?"

"Don't ask unnecessary questions. Mind your own business." Nora hung up.

She didn't expect Fanny to destroy Layla. She just wanted to make things difficult for her. If Fanny couldn't even manage that, it would be a waste of her time.

"Nora, you're back." Brenda had the maid bring coffee to Nora.

"Is the hospital busy these days? You've lost weight." Brenda touched Nora's face tenderly.

"It’s been quite busy."

"Who were you just on the phone with? You look so unhappy."

Nora thought since Brenda knew about the situation, she might as well vent to her.

"Layla still won't leave?" Brenda was also troubled by the situation. She had been trying to talk to Frank every other day, but that useless person kept delaying it.

Nora suddenly as if it was hard to swallow the coffee in her mouth.

Layla was like deeply embedded a thorn in her heart. She was causing her nightmares and making her restless. She couldn’t sleep or focus on work.

Nora's life could return to normal only when Layla was gone.

"That's really troublesome," Brenda sighed. She suspected this was Frank's way of getting back at her. 'Otherwise, why would Layla be so opposed to me? Why would she disrupt the Eilish family and cause harm to my precious children?' she thought.

"Yeah. I'll find a way to deal with it. I want her to suffer."

Brenda's heart chilled. "I'll go get you another cup of coffee."

She walked into the kitchen, hesitated for a moment, then took out her phone.

As soon as Layla left the company, she received a call from an unknown number.

"This is Brenda."

Layla replied coolly, "Hello, Mrs. Eilish."

"Life at Brightness Design Company isn't going well for you, right? I'll give you a million dollars to leave the city. This is your last chance, Layla. If you miss it, it's gone."

"You're too kind," Layla replied coldly.

"Won't you leave? You've already ruined Nora and Samuel's marriage. What else do you want? Is my son your next target?" Brenda asked anxiously.

"Anthony is my friend. He would never be my target. I've made that clear. Can't you understand?" Layla said seriously.

"It's not that I can't understand. It's that your actions don't match your words. If you mean what you say, why haven't you left the city?"

"Why should I leave the place I grew up in, the city I love?" Layla retorted. Her decision to leave initially had been her own. It was not because of Brenda's orders.

"No one can force me to leave, and you don't have that power. I'll stay or leave as I please. It's none of your business. Keep your money," Layla said bluntly before hanging up.

Brenda trembled with anger.

She shouldn't have given birth to a daughter like that, planting a seed of disaster.

She had given birth to a calamity!

As Layla hung up, her phone rang again.

"Are you off work?" She heard a man's cheerful voice, gentle and sexy.

Layla's mood lightened slightly. "Yes."

"Are you having dinner with your colleagues again tonight?"

Layla rolled her eyes. The same people who had been overly friendly to her yesterday now treated her as an enemy today. People's attitudes changed so quickly. But that was fine as she was happy to relax.

"No, I'll have takeout at home."

"Okay. Come home early."

Layla blinked at the phone. 'He doesn't even invite me to dinner? That doesn't make sense,' she thought.

She didn't believe that he would just let her have takeout without taking her out for a nice meal.

Layla scoffed. She didn't care.

Layla stepped out of the elevator of her apartment.

"Acquire everything, by any means necessary. If he can't accomplish that, I won’t keep a useless person at the company." The man at the door was dressed in a suit and exuded an air of authority as if he was in a high-level business meeting. He was decisive and efficient, as if he was a king with the power of life and death.

However, there were two bags of groceries at his feet.
