Chapter 250 Contained Danger

Layla didn't want that day to come.

She was suffering every day, every hour, and even every minute. However, she couldn't do anything, she could only wait for the day to come.

On December 7th, a cold wave struck. The weather was getting colder and Layla was becoming more and more desperate because of that grand wedding. Avalenia was bustling like never before. Everyone was discussing it, and the internet was filled with news about the wedding.

Blessings seemed like a huge net that tightly trapped her. Wherever Layla went, she couldn't escape.
Layla's female colleagues were holding their phones and looking at the wedding news, not focused on work.

"Mr. Holland and Miss Eilish's wedding is happening tomorrow. I'm so excited!"

"You're not getting married. Why are you excited?"

"I'm more excited than when I was getting married. It's the wedding of the century. The entire Hilton Hotel will be used for the wedding. I heard that there will be red roses, Miss Eilish's favorite, in the lobby and every guest's room."

"I heard about it too. A friend of mine who works at the hotel said that the banquet hall will be decorated like a castle, costing 10 million dollars."

"Ten million dollars is nothing. The whole wedding will cost over 200 million dollars."

"I heard the wedding will be live-streamed."

"Really? I'm going home to watch the livestream after work tomorrow. No, I'll take a day off and not come to work."

"I'm thinking the same. I can't miss the wedding of the century."

"Miss Eilish agreed to livestream the wedding to show everyone how happy she is. If I could marry a man like Mr. Holland, I would show off too."

"I envy her so much."

Alice worriedly looked at Layla, who was trying hard to control her emotions but was gripping the mouse tightly.

Her ex-boyfriend was getting married. And the whole world was blessing him, she must be feeling very sad.

Alice stood up and said, "You've been talking about that wedding for a week. Aren't you tired? It's someone else's wedding. What does it have to do with you?"

"We're talking about the wedding of the century. What does it have to do with you?" a colleague retorted.

"Fair point. So what? No one is marrying you. Are you jealous? If you're not happy, does that mean you don't want others to be happy?"

"As if you have a boyfriend."

"Even if I don't have a boyfriend, I can still be happy for others. You're just jealous."

"We can talk about whatever we want. Mind your own business."

"Yeah, mind your own business."

Alice and the three colleagues started arguing. "You guys are always so loud, disturbing my drawing. Can't I give my opinion?"

"You're so diligent, the company should give you a bonus."

Alice laughed lightly and said, "You all just gossip all day long. Compared to you, I should be getting a bonus."

Finally, Layla pulled Alice aside and ended this war.

"Alice, you don't have to argue with them for me. I'm fine." Layla shook her head.

Alice wanted to say, ‘If you were fine, you wouldn't have lost so much weight in just fifteen days. You're pregnant.’

Alice often brought food to work and forced Layla to eat it. She believed strongly in the importance of mood, especially for pregnant women, knowing that a mother's emotional state could greatly influence the well-being of her child.

"I know you're fine. I'm just annoyed by their arguing, not because of you. I like it quiet when I work, you know."

Alice didn't mind, but Layla knew that Alice wanted to protect her.

She felt lucky to have such a good friend.

"How about I treat you to dinner tonight? It's too cold. Don't go home and cook."

"I really want to go, but Owen will come pick me up after work."

"Why didn't my mom give birth to such a handsome younger brother for me? I envy you." Alice jealously shook her head and sighed. "Let Owen be my boyfriend. Then you and I will be even closer."

"I hope it could happen. But Owen already likes someone else."

"I'm heartbroken."

After work, Layla left the company with Owen. Like a handsome knight, he sat on the motorcycle waiting for her. His long legs were quite eye-catching as he handed her a helmet.

"Are you cold? I didn't remind you of the cold weather, so you dressed so thinly," Owen said as he took off his scarf and put it on Layla. Then, he took off his gloves.

Layla pushed his hand away. "Put on the gloves. Otherwise, you'll feel cold while riding the motorcycle."

"I'm a man. I'm fine. Put them on."

"I'll just put my hand in your pocket."

"When I tell you to put them on, you should put them on. Such a nagging woman!" Owen grabbed her hand and put the gloves on her.

The gloves were furry and warm. Layla felt warm.

The sadder she was, the more optimistic Layla became. She thought, "Life isn't too cruel to me. At least I have an intimate friend and a thoughtful younger brother."

The colleagues who walked out of the building couldn't help but comment when they saw this scene.

"Is that Layla's new boyfriend?"

"I heard he's her brother."

"They don't look alike. Is he really her brother?"

"How can a sister and brother be so close? My brother and I fight all the time."

"Layla is really amazing. We've only been at the Eilish Group for a short time, and she has changed several men. She's so lucky."

"She approaches men actively, but we don't. Otherwise, we would have just as many men around us."

"You're right. Not every woman likes to do that."

"That boy looks so young. I don't know if he's of legal age or not. How could she shamelessly be with him?"

"Are they your colleagues?" Owen asked coldly. "Should I go and teach them a lesson?"

"No, it's not necessary," Layla said calmly. These words didn’t faze her. "Let's go."

"Alright." Owen nodded. In front of Layla, he restrained his temper.

After a quick meal, Owen said, "Layla, accompany me somewhere."

Soon, they arrived at a nearby mall. Owen headed toward a suit store.

"Did you go the wrong way?" Layla was surprised. In her eyes, Owen was still a boy. His style of dressing was also very casual. He always wore T-shirts and never wore suits.

"I want to buy a suit," Owen said earnestly while picking one.

"Why do you suddenly want to buy a suit? Is it required for your job?"

"No, I want to confess to her tomorrow." Owen pursed his lips. He chuckled childishly and looked shy and awkward. His eyes gleamed.
