Chapter 460 Standing Up to Protect Her
In the car, Susan was busy with her phone.
"What's the emergency?" Caleb asked, glancing over while driving.
Susan frowned and stayed silent.
After a few minutes, Caleb added, "You don't need to stress with me around."
Even if Susan messed up, he could help fix it.
"I can handle my own stuff," Susan replied, not looking up.
"I know you're capable, but don't push yourself too hard. If you need help, just ask. I'm here for you," Caleb said sincerely.
Be there for her. Big words, but he was fighting her for custody of their son.
Susan got out of the car with a cold expression.
Caleb stopped in front of a café under renovation. He didn't drive off immediately. Inside, two groups were pushing each other, one being the workers. As soon as Susan entered, a man in a suit started arguing with her, not listening and pointing aggressively at her shoulder.
"Mr. Hall, there's no cutting corners on this project. Check the contract, everything's as stated..."
"You designers are all liars. I don't believe you. Give me a refund, or I'll sue."
Susan stayed calm. "Even if I call the police, it'll be the same."
"What? You got connections at the police station? Planning to cheat me now?" Dan Hall arrogantly pushed Susan, but Caleb grabbed and twisted his hand, dislocating it.
Dan screamed in pain.
"Who are you? Let go of my husband!" The woman in red, who had been aggressive, rushed forward. "Let go! Or I'll have someone beat you up."
Susan shuddered, "Caleb."
"My hand, my hand is going to break."
"Let go," the woman in red lunged, but Caleb dodged, causing her to fall. She shouted, "Are you all just going to stand there? Get him!"
"Watch out," Susan warned anxiously.
But those burly men were no match for Caleb; he took them down quickly.
Seeing this, the woman in red lost it and grabbed an iron rod, swinging it at Caleb.
"Stop!"
Unexpectedly, Dan rushed to block it, and the rod hit his shoulder.
"Honey, what are you doing?" the woman in red panicked.
"He... he's Mr. Eilish..." Dan's face twisted in pain.
"Mr. Eilish?" The woman in red quickly dropped the rod in fear. "You... you're my husband's boss, Mr. Eilish of the Eilish Group?"
'Oh no! This is bad.'
"Don't come to work tomorrow," Caleb said, looking down at them like a king.
The woman in red knelt down. "Mr. Eilish, I'm sorry, I'm sorry... We were wrong..."
"Mr. Eilish, please forgive us," Dan also knelt, both of them kowtowing in apology.
"They cut corners, we were just protecting our rights..."
The assistant looked at the once arrogant couple now groveling and felt satisfied. "Stop slandering. The Holland Group's designs are top-notch and never cut corners. You hired a cheap third-rate design company and now want to avoid paying the penalty by shifting the blame."
"I... I..." Dan stammered, swallowing hard. "Mr. Eilish, it's my fault. I didn't know Ms. Wilson was your woman. If I had known, I wouldn't have dared even with a thousand guts."
"Yes, Mr. Eilish. My husband has been with the Eilish Group for over ten years. Please show some mercy."
"My decisions are final," Caleb said, wrapping his arm around Susan's waist and walking away.
"You... you brought bad luck. Why open a café for no reason? Now I've lost my job. We're doomed!"
"How was I supposed to know... honey."
The woman in red received a slap, "It was your idea to save money. How is this my fault?"
"Idiot."
The couple started fighting, drawing a crowd.
"Let go," Susan dodged. His touch made her feel uncomfortable, like being bitten by a bug.
"What, are you angry again? Why didn't you stand up for yourself when you were being bullied? You only dare to bully me?"
"I wasn't being submissive, I was reasoning."
Caleb squinted. "He was already using force; he wasn't going to listen to reason." Touching his woman, just getting fired was merciful.
"So as a designer, should I hit the customer?" Susan retorted. She wouldn't have a job then. "I'm a designer, not a thug."
"But you were dealing with a thug. Do you think you can reason with a thug?"
"You're the biggest thug. If reasoning or violence worked, my son wouldn't be held by you."
Susan was like a fierce little rooster, full of fighting spirit. Caleb shook his head and chuckled, "Next time you encounter someone like that, use the same attitude you use against me."
Susan couldn't agree with him. Caleb was speaking from a position of power. She wasn't someone who could be easily bullied, but she had suffered too much in society to recklessly confront customers. Offending customers was the most foolish thing to do.
"I don't want to cause trouble."
"So what if you cause trouble? I'll solve it for you, go ahead and cause it," Caleb said arrogantly. He actually hoped she would rely on him.
Susan rolled her eyes and scoffed, "You're my biggest trouble." He was shameless.
Caleb raised an eyebrow, a subtle look in his eyes. "A trouble that will last a lifetime?"
"No, a trouble I will get rid of."
She really didn't give him any face.
Susan was clearly angry, but Caleb found her amusing.
In his life, he had only been rejected by her. It was refreshing, interesting, and he enjoyed it.
Susan furrowed her brow. Every time she scolded him, he just smiled. 'Is he not normal in the head?'
"Get in the car, let's go home."
"I'll take a cab."
"Why take a cab when you have a ride? Isn't my Maybach more comfortable than a taxi?" Caleb took out the keys.
"Is being rich so great?"
"This has nothing to do with money, it's about your comfort."
Caleb swore he didn't mean to tease Susan, but his words came out wrong.
Susan understood, her ears turning red, she glared at him. "Pervert!"
Susan's blushing face when she was angry was adorable. Caleb's heart fluttered.
"Get in the car," Caleb said, reaching for her hand.
Susan frowned.
Caleb grabbed Susan's hand, noticing a scratch on her pearl-like fingertip.
"You're hurt."
