Chapter 393 Vanished
At the Hospital.
Nora lay on the hospital bed, her face pale.
Phil had just finished stitching her fingers after the operation. "I heard a woman bit you. What deep hatred does she have against you to want to bite off your fingers?"
When they brought her in just now, Phil was shocked. The whole finger was bitten off halfway, exposing the white bone, flesh and blood blurred. It took several stitches to sew it up. Although she was lucky to save her finger, her future life would be affected. Her fingers would not be as agile, and she could no longer play the piano.
For Nora, who had been playing the piano since childhood, it was undoubtedly a huge blow. Phil felt both heartbreaking and regretful.
Nora closed her eyes, tears of despair silently flowing in her heart.
Thinking that she could no longer play the piano, Nora wished she could skin Fanny alive.
Nora regarded Fanny as a tool seeking revenge on Layla, but she didn't expect her to turn around and viciously bite her.
She thought, ‘It's all that bitch Layla's fault! If it weren't for that bitch, I wouldn't have encountered this terrifying tragedy. Why can't I get rid of her?’
The flames of hatred burned fiercely in Nora's heart. At this moment, it was not about competing for men, but more about her hatred for Layla.
Layla seemed to be her enemy, setting a barrier in her otherwise smooth life, like a needle piercing her heart. The smoother her past was, the more the pain was highlighted.
She thought, ‘Layla, I must completely get rid of you!’
"What's wrong with you?" Phil was frightened by Nora's terrifying gaze. She didn't seem like the usual Nora, her eyes sending shivers down his spine.
The driver entered. "Miss Eilish."
Nora asked Phil to leave first.
"Are you okay?" the driver asked anxiously, trembling.
"Okay? Do I look okay to you now?" Nora raised her hand, filled with hatred. "My finger was almost bitten off."
"I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I was on the phone just now, I thought..." the driver said.
"Enough! I don't want to hear your excuses!" Nora interrupted him and said, "Tomorrow, I don't want to see you again."
The driver felt dejected. But he knew that causing such a big mistake was already a lenient outcome.
"What about Fanny?" Nora asked coldly.
"According to your instructions, she has been sent to the lunatic asylum," the driver replied.
"Arrange for everything and don't let her step out of the lunatic asylum." Nora gritted her teeth.
"I understand, Miss Eilish," the driver said.
Fanny and Cassandra both resigned.
On the second day of their resignation, a new CEO named Brian arrived at the company. He was thirty years old and returned from studying abroad, wearing glasses. He was a man of few words.
Although Layla had not interacted with him, Brian seemed like a decent person.
After the previous turmoil, the atmosphere within the company was strange yet harmonious.
"Layla, this is a specialty biscuit from my hometown, would you like to try it?" a colleague asked cautiously, "It's delicious."
"No, thank you." Layla focused on her drawing.
Several female colleagues surrounded Layla's workstation, exchanging glances.
"It's lunchtime already, aren't you going to rest? If you don't rest at noon, you'll be very tired in the afternoon."one suggested.
"Yeah. A little nap would be good," another one echoed.
"I'm not tired," Layla replied lightly.
"Layla, are you still mad at us? We were so mean to you before, it's understandable if you're angry. We were just trying to keep our jobs, we had no choice... We hope you can forgive us." a colleague apologized.
"After this incident, we have realized our mistakes, and we won't do that again in the future," another one echoed. "Layla, please give us a chance."
They spoke sincerely, looking at her with anticipation.
Layla had intended to finish her drawing quickly, but it seemed that if she didn't clarify, they would continue to be anxious.
"As I said before, I'm here to work, not to make enemies with anyone, nor am I here to make friends. So let's all focus on our own tasks. Don't mind me. I've already forgotten about what happened before," Layla replied.
"But..." some colleagues hesitated.
"Let's just interact normally as colleagues, no need to overthink it." Layla smiled faintly, then shifted her gaze back to the computer, continuing to work busily.
Seeing this, the others didn't want to push further. After all, Layla's ability to let bygones be bygones was already appreciated. There was no need to force a friendship.
"We won't disturb you anymore. Good luck," they said. "If you need anything, feel free to ask. We're colleagues. We should help each other."
At one o'clock, most employees were resting at their desks.
Layla picked up her teacup, only to find that there was no water left. She stood up to refill it with warm water.
Passing by the CEO's office, she glanced in unintentionally, seeing Brian working diligently, looking like a workaholic. She had heard from other colleagues that he had been a senior executive at a foreign design company.
She didn't know what impact Nora sending Brian here would have on her.
But the future was unpredictable. Rather than worrying and speculating, Layla preferred to focus on each step in front of her.
In the pantry.
"Has Fanny contacted you?" Levi appeared beside her at some point, asking softly.
"How could she contact me?" Layla replied. She thought it was possible for Fanny to suddenly rush out from the corner with a knife to stab her.
"That's true... but don't you find it strange? Cassandra resigned, at least she left a resignation letter after we got off work, took her things and left. Fanny's things were all taken away in the middle of the night, and she didn't go through the resignation process. I tried to contact her, but no one at her house. I contacted her parents and they said they hadn't seen her for several days, as if she suddenly disappeared," Levi added.
Layla trembled her hand.
A person like Fanny wouldn't just give up quietly. Dhe would definitely make a scene.
Unless she was taken away by someone.
Who took her? Or was there some other accident?
Levi frowned. "I feel her sudden disappearance is not normal. Should we report it?"
"If you want to report it, go ahead." Layla's attitude was clear. She didn't intend to get involved.
"She offended you before, and I was so angry with her. But her sudden disappearance worries me a bit. After all, we used to..." Levi said.
"I have to go." Layla was not the god.
End of work.
"Goodbye, Layla."
"See you tomorrow, Layla."
"Did you forget the day? Tomorrow is Saturday. See you next week."
"Have a good time with your boyfriend on the weekend, Layla."
Layla smiled lightly, nodded, put on her coat, and was about to leave when Brian called her into the office.
