Chapter 448 You Don't Understand My Feelings
"I... I don't know where he is, I didn't take him..." Grace stammered, throwing herself at Caleb's legs in a panic.
If Caleb really hardened his heart, she'd never see her daughter again.
"You're still not telling the truth?"
"This is the truth. I wanted to split them up, but I didn't send anyone to kidnap him. Maybe that woman hooked up with another guy, and it was someone else's wife who did it." Even in her anxiety, Grace didn't forget to hurl insults.
Caleb stood still, Candy's cries echoing in his ears.
"You don't believe me? Do you want me to swear on Candy's life?" Grace was furious. She couldn't even stand up, glaring at Caleb from the ground. She hated feeling so low and disadvantaged, as if Caleb would definitely win this battle. He'd take their daughter, be with his mistress and their illegitimate child, and she'd be kicked aside like trash, wasting seven years of her life.
Rage surged within Grace.
Her thoughts sharpened: if push came to shove, she'd take a leap with her daughter, ensuring Caleb's eternal remorse.
"Let go of me, Mommy... I want Mommy..." Candy's innocent voice cried out, breaking hearts.
Caleb furrowed his brows and put Candy down.
"Mommy..." Candy immediately ran into Grace's arms.
"Baby." Grace held her tightly, afraid Caleb would take her away again.
Caleb was filled with guilt towards his daughter; she was the one he loved and cared for the most in this world.
"I'm sorry, Candy." Caleb clenched his fists and turned to leave.
"Mommy, Daddy doesn't want us anymore..." Candy cried even harder, gasping for breath. Her little hands reached out, sobbing, "Daddy... come back, Daddy..."
Grace cupped Candy's face, "He's not your daddy. Your daddy is dead. He's a devil. Only Mommy loves you. Candy, remember, no matter what, always choose Mommy. Stay with Mommy, understand? Mommy is the one who loves you the most."
"Understand?"
Candy just cried.
"Understand?" Grace suddenly shouted, her eyes bulging.
"I... I understand..." Candy wailed.
Caleb slammed the car door in frustration. The image of his daughter's tear-streaked face filled him with guilt, leading him to punch the steering wheel.
'Candy, I'm sorry. Daddy will make it up to you.' he sweared.
He temporarily suppressed his guilt, started the car, and picked up his phone to dial.
As soon as it connected.
"Did you find Oliver? Where is he?"
Before he could speak, Susan anxiously asked.
"He's not with Grace."
"Then where is he?"
"I'm coming to the hospital to get you."
Without saying much, Caleb hung up.
Susan was already waiting at the corner. Before he could stop the car, she rushed over and got in.
Caleb quickly hit the brakes, his heart pounding. "Don't run. I almost hit you."
"Where's Oliver?" Susan's hair was disheveled, her swollen eyes focused on him, repeatedly asking, "Where's my son?"
A mother's love can drive a woman mad.
"I'm taking you to find him now."
"Answer me!" Susan roared.
"He's with my parents."
"They took Oliver?" Susan finally considered this possibility. She had thought it was Grace. Oliver being with the elderly was at least safe, but the next moment, another wave of anger surged.
"They kidnapped my son. I can call the police."
Susan was nearly frantic with worry.
"I'm sorry."
"What's the use of sorry? Do you understand a mother's feelings?" Susan angrily questioned, "Do you know how I got through the past two hours?"
"I understand your feelings."
"You don't! Caleb, you don't understand at all! You didn't go through ten months of pregnancy, the morning sickness, the joy of seeing Oliver born, or the anxiety when he had a high fever. For the past four years, you were absent. You didn't experience anything, so how can you say you understand my feelings?"
Caleb was speechless, deeply ashamed.
"I'm sorry."
"I don't want your apology. Just give me my child back."
"My parents just wanted to see their grandson."
"Oliver is my son. He has nothing to do with you or them. He's not their grandson; he's only my son." Susan was akin to a mother hen, frantic in her protection of her chick. Caleb taking her son was terrifying enough, and now with his parents involved, she felt utterly powerless. Even if it meant risking her life, she vowed not to let them take her son.
"I understand your feelings. Don't worry, I won't fight you for him, and I won't let them take Oliver. You will always be Oliver's mommy, and no one can change that."
"Stop saying that." Susan was on edge. If she didn't need him to find her son, she would have slapped him.
"Caleb, I'm telling you, don't think you can use the Eilish family's power to shut me up. Even if I have one breath left, I'll fight you to the end!"
Susan turned her head to the window, refusing to speak to him.
Her fists clenched on her lap, arming herself.
The Eilish family residence.
"Sir, you're back. This lady is..."
Caleb strode towards Aidan, who was leisurely reading the newspaper. "Where's Oliver?"
"Speak!"
Aidan frowned and looked up. "Is that how you talk to your father?"
Before Caleb could respond, Susan ran up. "Give me my son back."
Aidan looked at the woman in front of him, hardly believing his son was involved with such a rude, plain woman, and even got her pregnant. She was far worse than he had imagined.
Aidan's disdain grew, and he snorted, "That's my grandson."
"He's not your grandson. He's my son and you have no part in his life."
"If you hadn't secretly taken my grandson, would it have come to this? You should be grateful I didn't have you jailed. What kind of look is that? How dare you roll your eyes at me?" Aidan pointed at her and said to Caleb, "Is this the rude woman you fancy? Letting her yell at me?"
Susan couldn't wait any longer and was about to rush upstairs, shouting, "Oliver!"
"Stop her." Aidan quickly stood up. "This is too much. Does she think this is a public place? I'm not dead yet!"
The butler and maids moved to grab Susan, but Caleb stopped them, and they quickly halted.
"You... I'm still in charge here! Grab her."
"Who dares touch her?"
Aidan turned his anger to Caleb, "Are you going to defy me for her?"
