Chapter 290 Who Smashed the Computer?

Layla arrived at the office early in the morning.

She had a rough night, plagued by nightmares and morning sickness. To her dismay, her desk was in disarray, and her potted plants lay uprooted on the floor.

Her colleagues glanced at her, some snickering, while others feigned busyness.

Fanny's laughter could be heard from a distance. Layla silently tidied her desk and replanted her plants.

As she turned on her computer, a sizzling sound followed by smoke startled her. After seeking help, she discovered that someone had intentionally spilled water into her computer host.

Several pairs of eyes turned to Layla, who clenched her fists and took a deep breath with her eyes closed, seemingly enduring something, but she couldn't hold back and strode toward Fanny.
A drama was about to unfold.
"Fanny, did you mess up my desktop and pour water into my computer?"
Fanny was leisurely sipping her coffee. Facing Layla's angry question, she slowly lifted her eyelids and said to Layla, "You need evidence when you make accusations. Where is the evidence?"
"Who else could it be but you?"
"Ha, does that count as evidence? Layla, you love to show off so much, and there are more than just me in the office who are displeased with you. Why do you say it's me? Maybe you're purposely framing me to cause trouble."
"I’m framing you? All the important blueprints are on my computer, and I didn't save them. How could I possibly destroy my own hard work to frame you?"
Upon hearing this, Fanny felt a surge of joy. That's exactly what she wanted. Layla hadn't saved her work!
The smile on her face was even brighter. "Oh, what a pity, but you are so talented, you can redraw it."
"That's right."
"You can eat anything you want, but you can't make accusations casually. Don't wrong Fanny without evidence."
"Fanny would never do such a thing. It's clearly you who staged it all."
Layla's face darkened even more. The company didn't have surveillance cameras, and Fanny was so unscrupulous precisely because Layla couldn't produce any evidence.
"Fanny, you are really despicable."
Fanny was still smiling, but her face changed when she heard this. She stood up and slapped the table, "Who are you calling despicable?"
"Whoever did it is the despicable one."
"Layla, didn't you brush your teeth this morning? Don't slander me with things you have no evidence for. Do you think that just because you won the Sheeran Group project, you can act like a queen in Brightness Design Company and frame anyone you want? Let me tell you, you're not qualified."
Layla didn't argue with her. It was pointless. She turned around and went back to her seat to contact the repairman.
Layla's mood was even worse than before.
Why couldn't she escape from these malicious colleagues who liked to gossip and trip her up at work? Everyone was earning their own salary. Wouldn't it be better if everyone just minded their own business? Was human nature really so ugly?
Fanny and a few other colleagues continued to speak loudly, saying all sorts of unpleasant things.
The computer was repaired, but all the drawings were gone. Layla looked at the blank document and suddenly felt like crying. Why was life so hard?
But she didn't have time to be upset. She could only continue drawing.
What she didn't expect was that the next day, as soon as she stepped into the company, Fanny rushed over as if she was going to kill her, "Layla, did you smash my computer?"
Layla glanced over. The cover of Fanny's computer was lying on the side, and all the components inside had been smashed.
Layla had just suffered the same thing yesterday, but she felt no sympathy for Fanny at all. She only thought it served her right.
"It wasn't me."
"Who else could it be but you? It was you who did it." Fanny was furious, but her eyes couldn't stop turning red.
This sounded very familiar. Layla had said the same thing yesterday. What did Fanny say in response?
Oh, the exact words were...
"Does that count as evidence?"
"You..."
"Layla, you framed me for smashing your computer, and now you're taking revenge on me by smashing my computer too. It's you. I'm going to call the police and have you arrested."
"Do as you wish." Layla ignored her, but Fanny followed her to her desk.
"You've only been at the company for a few days. How many design drawings do you have on your computer? What about me? I've been working here for eight years. Do you know how many important files and blueprints I have on my computer?" Fanny was both angry and upset. When she shouted, she was choking, shaking with anger. "Layla, you've gone too far. You've destroyed my hard work."
Layla was unmoved. Just as she was about to sit down, Fanny overturned her chair.
The smell of gunpowder was even stronger. The colleagues scattered, some with a mentality of enjoying the show. There was nothing more exciting than watching a fight between the big shots.
Layla glanced at her indifferently. "Fanny, have you had enough?"
"No. I want to make a scene. Give me back my blueprints."
"I know whether or not you smashed my computer, but I won't stoop to your level and use such crude methods to retaliate against you. I'm not that bored. This is just a job to me, and I'm not interested in anything other than making money."
"That's right. You don’t care about anything but the money. You sold yourself to the Sheeran Group project for money, and you want to drive me away to become the chief designer for money. It's all about money. You smashed my computer for money. You're a wicked devil."
"I live with integrity. It's you who has a devil in your heart."
"What's going on again?" Levi walked in with a headache. "I could hear you two arguing before I even got to the door."
"She smashed my computer, so you have to fire her today." Fanny pointed at Layla, crying out in anger.
"Come into my office with me."
"No, I want you to fire her." Fanny was hysterical.
"Come in!" Levi pulled Fanny into the office.
Fanny was shouting and screaming inside.
"Layla, it's okay."
"We believe you didn't do it." A few colleagues came to comfort Layla.
Layla didn't care whether they believed her or not, and their comfort was not sincere.
She had thought that switching to a smaller company would make the work environment a bit simpler, but the fights here were even more intense.
After about ten minutes, Fanny stormed out, giving Layla a fierce glare before slamming the door and leaving.
Immediately after, Layla was called into the office.
"Levi."
"Sit." Levi was friendly. "Fanny is an old employee. She has been with me for many years, so I've been quite indulgent with her, which has made her a bit domineering. Don't take it to heart. I believe you didn't smash her computer. I trust your character.”
"Small frictions between colleagues are normal. Don't let it affect your mood. Just focus on your work."
"Thank you, Levi."
Layla only cared whether Levi believed her or not, because he was the one who paid her salary.
"I called you in because I want you to accompany me to the Sheeran Group's Christmas dinner tomorrow night."
