Chapter 729 Discovering the Truth
Around seven o'clock, Mira returned home and was startled by the mess inside as soon as she opened the door.
The living room, the sofa, the cabinets, the coffee table, everything was overturned, like a tornado had swept through.
She ran to the bedroom, and all the drawers had been rummaged through, with documents and bags thrown all over the floor.
Even the wardrobe wasn't spared; clothes were scattered everywhere.
Could it be that a thief had broken in?
Mira quickly took out her phone to call the police, "Hello, I've been robbed. My address is..."
Halfway through her sentence, Mira suddenly heard a loud buzz in her ear and realized something.
This wasn't a burglary; it was...
"Sorry, I dialed the wrong number." She hung up the phone.
"Damn it. Where's the money?" Bennie staggered in, reeking of alcohol.
Mira asked, "Did you do this?"
Bennie grabbed her by the collar and violently pulled her over. "Where the hell did you hide the money? Where's the bank card?"
Of course, Mira had hidden the bank card at her office long ago; she wouldn't dare keep it at home.
"I told you, there's no money."
Bennie retorted, "Who are you trying to fool? Give me the money! Hurry up!"
"I don't have a single penny left." Mira looked at him coldly.
"You're asking for it!" Bennie punched her to the ground and kicked her again. He roared, "Where's the money? Speak!"
His eyes were bloodshot, as if he wanted to kill her.
"Speak! Give me the money!" With each roar, he kicked her mercilessly, one kick after another.
Mira curled up, spitting blood.
Bennie picked her up. "Where's the money!"
"Just kill me. There's no money." Her gaze was calm and indifferent.
"If you don't give me the money, I'll expose what you've done."
Mira, with blood at the corner of her mouth, gave a sorrowful smile. "Go ahead. I don't care anymore..."
Her current life was more painful than death.
Bennie shouted, "You think I won't dare? Give me the money! Money!"
He grabbed her hair and started beating her.
At that moment, Mira broke down. She had had enough. Her fingers touched a knife, and without thinking, she stabbed Bennie in the chest.
Blood gushed out, flowing down the knife and covering her hands.
Bennie didn't even have the strength to scream. His eyes widened, and he fell to the ground.
He reached out his hand. "Help... help me..."
Mira got up and coldly watched him struggle and beg for his life.
Such a person didn't deserve to live.
The thrill of revenge surged through her heart.
But soon, she felt fear. She thought, 'If this continued, he will really die. I don't want to become a murderer. If I go to jail, what will happen to my parents? I can't go to jail!'
Mira hurriedly grabbed her phone and called for an ambulance.
In the Eilish Group.
Late at night, Anthony was still at the office, thinking about what Terry had said.
'Don't leave any regrets. But how could I keep her?'
Terry rushed into the office without even knocking, looking a bit flustered. "Mr. Eilish, we've figured out the contract issue."
Anthony narrowed his eyes.
On her way home, Juniper bought a suitcase. She hadn't brought anything from home; most of the clothes and items were bought by Ronnie.
She didn't take any of those, just a few of her own things, which fit into a small suitcase.
It turned out she left so few traces behind.
She had only stayed for a little over half a month, yet she felt a bit reluctant.
Thinking about how she and Ronnie used to joke around while eating, and how he insisted on washing the dishes but ended up breaking her bowl, she couldn't help but smile.
However, those memories would never happen again.
From the balcony, she could see the Eilish Group building. It towered into the sky, dazzling and magnificent, just like Anthony.
In May, the weather was gradually getting warmer, and the air already had the scent of early summer.
Time passed so quickly.
Soon, she would leave this place.
The next morning, Juniper arrived at the office, and Terry, looking serious, called her into the office.
She was startled by Mira's appearance.
Mira's hair was disheveled. Her face was streaked with tears and her eyes were sunken. She was bruised and battered, her eyes filled with despair and lifelessness.
What had she gone through last night?
Mira coldly looked up at her with those swollen, bloodshot eyes.
Juniper asked, "What's going on?"
"Mr. Eilish has investigated and found out that she stole the contract that day." Terry handed Juniper a few secretly taken photos.
Finally, the truth was out.
The oppressive feeling of the past few days vanished.
Juniper looked gratefully at Anthony who had kept his promise and cleared her name.
Juniper asked, "Who took the photos?"
"Her ex-boyfriend, Bennie." Terry explained the whole story in detail.
So Mira had such a scumbag ex-boyfriend. It was terrifying to be entangled with someone like that.
In all fairness, as a woman, Juniper felt a bit sympathetic towards Mira.
Terry added, "Bennie is still in the hospital but is out of danger."
"That kind of person deserves to die. Once he wakes up, he should be sent back to prison. He can't be allowed to harm others again." Juniper said angrily.
Terry glanced at Anthony and nodded. "Yes, I'll handle it."
"What about Mira?"
Terry sighed regretfully. "Mira, you had such a bright future ahead of you. Why did you ruin it? I can't understand why you would do such a thing."
"What's there to understand? Even the most rational woman can't escape being entangled by emotions." Mira looked at Anthony. "I did all this for you. Anthony, I love you."
Anthony only felt disgusted.
Juniper had already guessed the reason. The only thing that could make a woman lose her mind was love.
Mira continued, "I know the gap between us and never thought of getting you. Just being by your side and seeing you every day made me happy."
"You and Ms. Lawson are a perfect match, and I wish you both well. But why does it have to be Juniper? Her appearance ruined everything."
"Why do you like a woman who flirts with two men at the same time? She doesn't deserve you."
"I'm not doing this for myself but for you, Anthony. I can't let this woman ruin you, so I had to make her disappear from your side."
Anthony sneered, "So you used such a stupid method?"
Mira replied, "In your eyes, it's stupid. But to me, as long as I could make her disappear, I was willing to do anything. If I hadn't failed, she would be gone by now."
Anthony asked, "You still don't think you did anything wrong?"
Mira continued, "I did nothing wrong. Even if you don't understand and blame me, I still believe what I did was right. If someone has to be the villain, let it be me, as long as you're happy."
Anthony mocked, "Self-righteous."
Juniper shook her head. "There's no point in reasoning with her. This one-sided love is so obsessive it's pathological. She won't think she's wrong."
"I'm not wrong!" Mira suddenly shouted at Juniper, "You already have Ronnie. Why won't you leave Anthony alone? You'll only be a burden to him and harm him. What I'm doing is true love, while you just want to possess him. You selfish woman. Stay away from him!"
"Call the police, Terry," Anthony said.
