Chapter 37 Nathan Marley

The atmosphere in the Rose Garden was romantic.

Waiter Louis bowed respectfully, "Good evening."

"Layla?" A look of surprise flashed across Louis' young and handsome face, "Long time no see, what brings you here?"

"It's just been a few days." Layla joked.

"I didn't come here to catch up!" Samuel's icy voice rang out.

"Yes, I'm sorry, please come in." Louis looked surprised and apprehensive, glancing at Samuel. How could Layla be with this man?

As they entered, Layla's former female colleagues all looked at her with surprised and envious eyes.

"Isn't that Layla? And that customer from last time."

"Layla has found a rich man. Why don't we have such luck?"

"She's young and beautiful, and knows how to seduce. Didn't the old manager always praise her for her enthusiastic service? Turns out it was to flirt with men, and she even got the most handsome one."

"She could also be a mistress."

These voices reached Layla's ears. She glanced at the man beside her, but his jawline was so perfect, like a sculpture, with a dominant and powerful aura. Being with a man like him would make her the object of female envy, and she would be hated.

It would be better to stay away from him, otherwise, she might get acid thrown at her someday.

Layla pulled her hand out of his arm.

Samuel's gaze darkened as he watched her gritting her teeth and limping away.

"Here are your menus."

"Thank you." Layla politely smiled.

But this smile was overly sweet in Samuel's eyes.

He finally realized that she was a sweetheart to everyone except him, to him she was a hedgehog.

Despite helping her openly and in secret so many times, she never gave him even a smile. She needed to learn from society's harsh lessons.

Layla had already memorized the menu, even the cheapest steak was worth a few hundred dollars, too expensive.

She covered her face with the menu and asked him in a low voice, "You'll pay for this meal, right?"

"I never said that." Samuel replied coldly.

"But it was your idea to come here, I never said I wanted to eat dinner. I already had some bread earlier." Although it was as good as not eating and she was still super hungry, she couldn't pay for such an expensive steak.

"You like to eat it, but I have no interest in steak at all." Samuel said expressionlessly.

"Well then, I won't eat. You can have it." Layla closed the menu unhappily.

You dares to threaten me?

If you don't eat, then starve! That's what Samuel thought.

After a few seconds, he said coldly, "I never let women pay."

"If you say so." Layla says, but as if afraid he would change his mind, she ordered the cheapest steak.

Looking at his punchable face, acting all high and mighty, who else should she fleece if not him? She didn't need to feel the slightest bit embarrassed.

Samuel ordered fish and red wine.

"Pour me a glass, please." Layla raised her glass.

"You can't drink." he said.

"Why?" Layla protested. She rarely drank, so what's wrong with having a few sips today when she was in a bad mood? Besides, red wine had beauty-enhancing effects.

Because you might be carrying my child. Samuel asserted, "You're not allowed, and don't even think about secretly drinking while I'm not around. You'll be responsible for the consequences."

"What gives you the right to control me?" Layla objected unhappily.

The man's face remained indifferent, as if he couldn't be bothered to explain. He picked up the tall glass and took a sip.

"If you won't allow me to drink, then fine. Who cares? Stingy!" Layla retorted, then got up and headed for the restroom.

Before she even entered, Louis pulled her to a corner.

"What's wrong? You scared me." Layla said.

"You scared me first. How did you end up with that guy? Wasn't he your customer?"

"You still remember him?" Layla thought to herself. Indeed, a man like him, with his looks and demeanor, was unforgettable at first glance.

Of course, in her eyes, his scheming and dominance were also unforgettable. Although he had helped her and she was sometimes grateful to him, most of the time, she really felt like beating him up.

Louis nodded. "Now it seems like he deliberately made things difficult for you to attract your attention. Rich people like to play this game. But Layla, you don't seem like..."

"… You mean a woman who blindly worships money?"

Louis shrugged.

"He and I don't have the kind of relationship you're thinking of." Layla clarified.

"But you were just holding hands with him, looking intimate. The way he looked at you... full of possessiveness, as if you were his possession. Layla, that man is dangerous. He won't sincerely care about you. You're such a good girl, you shouldn't be someone's mistress."

Although she was misunderstood, Louis was genuinely concerned. Layla felt warmth in her heart. There was still someone who truly cared about her.

"Don't worry, I won't." she reassured her friend.

"Well, that's good then."

After using the restroom, Layla was attracted by the garden lights.

In the past, when she had free time, she loved to quietly watch the twinkling lights and empty her mind for a while.

Passing through the hallway, she arrived at the outdoor restaurant, adorned with strings of lights, like stars, even more beautiful than inside.

Layla smiled faintly. She had worked part-time in this restaurant for two years. How nostalgic...

"I… I don't want to break up..." the voice of a sobbing woman came amidst the roses.

In the midst of the roses stood a woman wearing a backless dress, wiping away tears. She had a slender figure and fair skin.

And in front of her stood a man even more beautiful than the roses, devilishly enchanting with a bewitching aura.

Layla suddenly gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief.

He is... no, he probably isn't...

But he looks so much like him.

Are you sure he's not?

"I said it's over, it's over, got it?" The man's voice was lazy but irresistible.

"You can't treat me like this, I... I'm pregnant with your child."

Layla was shocked. She had just heard something incredible! Another scumbag?

"Pregnant? Ha! I'm infertile, so how did you get pregnant?"

"You…" The beautiful girl's figure trembled.

Layla thought, this drama is too full of twists.

"I hate you." The beautiful girl stomped her foot and left, crying.

Before Layla could recover, the man had already looked at her, and their gaze met in the air.

Layla was even more shocked. Those eyes were just too similar! Were they twins?

Still in shock, she saw the man walking towards her.

"Did you enjoy eavesdropping?"

Layla turned around to run away, but he caught up to her in two or three steps, grabbed her wrist, and pinned her against the wall.

"I didn't hear anything, I didn't see anything." Layla closed her eyes and yelled randomly.

"Are you a journalist?" the man interrogated.

A journalist? Layla opened her eyes and met those beautiful eyes. It was clearly him questioning her, but with a hint of arrogance.

Those eyes...

Her heart jumped intensely, and she couldn't help but exclaim, "Nathan Marley?"
