Chapter 632 Taking Care of a Fever
Anthony shot her a cold look, "You gotta move out."
"What the hell? Are you serious?" Juniper thought, could she really be unlucky enough to get dumped by another jerk?
No way.
He's not that kind of guy.
"If you can't do it yourself, I'll have my assistant help you tomorrow."
"You really want me gone, huh? Do you hate me that much?"
Was his silence a yes? She thought they were getting somewhere, but was it all just in her head? Juniper couldn't believe it.
"We're together every day. I make you breakfast, wait for you every night, chat with you, warm up your milk. We act like a couple. Does that mean nothing to you?"
"I never asked you to do any of that."
One sentence, and Juniper felt like a fool.
"So, I'm just pathetic, right? Just deluding myself?" Tears welled up in her eyes. She'd never felt so hurt. Even catching a cheating boyfriend didn't hurt this much, like a knife to the heart.
How could he do this to her?
Anthony couldn't stand her tears and walked towards the room.
"Anthony!" Juniper blocked his way, arms spread wide, "Tell me straight, do you really want me to move out? Say it!"
He didn't like her messing up his life, but for some reason, he couldn't say it. Was it just because he was too nice?
"Say it! Just say it, and I'll go. Do you want me to leave?" Juniper demanded.
"Yes," Anthony forced out.
A chill settled in her heart. So it was all just her wishful thinking. He still hated her like the first day, wanted her gone. He only helped her out of pity, it could have been anyone. Maybe he really was with that other woman...
Juniper couldn't bear to think about it. Even feeling betrayed seemed absurd, because he never acknowledged her as his girlfriend. It was all just her own delusion.
She forced a cold smile, "Fine, I'll move out."
Anthony said nothing and went back to his room. He went through his usual routine of showering and resting, but he couldn't sleep. His ears kept straining for any sounds outside.
Is she packing? Has she left?
If she was leaving, he shouldn't stop her, but would it be dangerous for a girl to be out so late? He couldn't help but worry.
Thinking about it, Anthony couldn't sleep well, drifting in and out of sleep until morning.
Has she moved out? The first thought that came to his mind made him want to check outside.
But he forced himself to stay calm. He shouldn't care whether she stayed or left; it would be better if she left.
Anthony tried to stay composed, but his actions were still a bit rushed. After freshening up, he saw that her things were still there.
Thank goodness.
He actually felt relieved? Didn't he want her to leave?
At that moment, Juniper came out of her room, struggling with large bags, treating him like he was invisible.
She was still leaving.
Seeing her struggle with the bags, Anthony said, "I'll get someone to help you move."
"No need," Juniper's face was stern as she struggled in front of him.
Anthony couldn't bear it and reached out to help her.
"I said no need." Juniper pushed his hand away.
Her fingers were burning hot.
"You're burning up?" Her face was flushed too.
"No."
"You're burning up, go to the hospital."
"None of your business. Don't act like you care. I don't need your pity."
Anthony didn't know why, but he was worried, 'It's not pity, it's...'
"Stop being stubborn."
"I'm not going to the hospital..." Juniper pushed him but weakly collapsed into his arms, still feebly pushing, "Go away..."
Anthony decisively picked her up and took her back to his room.
"What are you doing? I need to move out..."
"You're in no shape to move out."
"I don't want to stay and be hated," Juniper whimpered, "No... I still have my pride."
"We'll talk about your pride when you're better. Lie down."
"You're still being mean to me..."
Anthony went downstairs to get medicine, warm water, and a thermometer.
Her temperature was almost 104°F.
"With such a high fever, you still want to move out?"
"Isn't it because you want me to leave?" Juniper said pitifully, "I won't cling to you."
Anthony put a cooling patch on her forehead.
"Take the medicine, drink some water."
"You're not gentle at all."
Anthony really didn't know what to do with her.
"I'm a patient, you need to be gentle, coax me." Juniper said.
"Take the medicine." Anthony said.
Juniper pouted, "It's so bitter."
"You'll be late for work," She added.
He always left for work at eight sharp.
"I'm not going."
Juniper's eyes showed a hint of disbelief, "Not going? Are you not going because of me?"
So he does care about her, how touching. Maybe it wasn't just her wishful thinking.
Anthony didn't answer the question. He didn't even know what he was thinking, just that he couldn't leave her alone with a fever of almost 104°F. Maybe it was just a sense of responsibility; he couldn't leave someone with such a high fever at home alone.
"Won't I be delaying your work?" Juniper asked.
"Quiet, sleep."
"Okay." A secret smile played on Juniper's lips as she closed her eyes. After a while, she opened them again, worried, "You won't leave me alone, will you?"
"No."
"Okay, that's good."
Only then did she close her eyes and quickly fell into a feverish sleep.
With her face flushed from the fever, she looked like an innocent child, so well-behaved, unlike her usual willful self.
Anthony suddenly felt soft-hearted. Had he been too heartless to her?
But she had disrupted his life, so why did he feel guilty?
Anthony didn't understand himself anymore.
Juniper slept for a long time after taking the medicine, dreaming a lot. Sometimes she dreamt of her mom, sometimes of Douglas betraying her, and finally, she dreamt of Anthony.
In the dream, his kiss landed softly on her forehead..
When Juniper woke up, she couldn't tell if it was a dream or reality. She saw a figure working at the computer.
Was it him?
"Anthony?" Her throat was dry and parched.
Even though it was a soft voice, he heard it immediately and came over.
"I'm so thirsty..." She said, felt like she was dying of thirst.
Anthony propped up her upper body and gave her water.
Juniper drank in big gulps.
"Slow down." Anthony said.
She slowed down and finished the whole glass of water, feeling like a fish that had been dying of thirst being put back into water.
Juniper looked at him gratefully, full of dependence, "It's so good to have you here."
