Chapter 285 Special Care
Their lips seemed to be touching, but there was a gap of a few millimeters. Caleb pushed Grace away, his brow furrowed with impatience. Grace was like a cockroach to him.
"Do you hate me that much? Caleb, why can't you love me?" she cried, her voice hoarse from pain.
Caleb's voice was unusually calm. "Four years ago, I gave all my love to Susan. There's no love left for you."
In that instant, the last flicker of hope Grace had held onto for years was extinguished. She no longer expected this man to love her. Grace gave up completely. A bitter smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. She was a complete joke. Only now did she truly regret marrying this heartless man.
Four years, for four years, he could never love her.
"You want a divorce?" Grace's gaze became resolute.
"I don't want to go that far, so don't push me," Caleb replied.
"Push you? Caleb, you're the one who's cheating, and you're the one pushing me all the time. What nerve do you have to say that I'm pushing you? I just did what any woman would do."
"Don't touch her again. This is my final warning." Caleb pointed at Grace's nose. Grace trembled.
Caleb turned and left.
"Stop right there.
"You're going to see her again?
"Caleb, I said stop."
As Caleb opened the door, Candy stood there, tears in her eyes, "Daddy, don't fight with Mommy, don't be mean to Mommy." Caleb's cold heart melted instantly. He quickly squatted down, apologetically hugging his daughter. "I'm sorry, Candy. I'm so sorry..."
"Daddy... I love you."
"I love you too, sweetheart."
"Daddy, don't leave tonight, okay? You can sleep with me. I’m scared."
Caleb hesitated. "Alright, I won't go anywhere. I will stay with you."
Grace chased after them. "Caleb, stop pretending. How dare you..."
Caleb gave her a warning look.
"Mommy, stop it," Clung to Caleb's neck, Candy said pleadingly.
Grace gripped the door frame, swallowing her words, as Caleb carried Candy to the children's room.
Grace swore bitterly, "Susan, as long as Candy is here, I won't get divorced and let you have your way. As long as I'm alive, you'll never be Mrs. Eilish."
In the morning, Susan, with a throbbing head, was awakened by a series of doorbell rings. She reluctantly got up to answer the door, "Did you forget your keys, senior?"
In front of her was a pair of trousers.
"Open your eyes and see who I am." A displeased, cold voice sounded. Susan was immediately frightened by the voice. When she looked up and saw Caleb, she was about to slam the door as if she had seen a ghost, but her usual strength was no match for a man, let alone her strength as she was sick, and Caleb easily pushed her aside, causing her to take two steps back.
"Caleb, what are you doing here?
"You're trespassing. I'm calling the police.
"Get out." Susan's words were strong, but her legs involuntarily retreated. Caleb, towering at 6 feet and 3 inches, was like a giant on the attack, his tall figure filling the entire living room, and she was like a little rabbit forced into a corner by a big bad wolf.
"Get out!"
"You're sick?"
"None of your business."
Caleb saw her exhausted and flushed face and reached out to touch her forehead.
"Don't touch me." Their fingertips touched, and he felt a wave of heat.
"You foolish woman. You're running a fever and you're barefoot. Don't you want to get better?" Caleb asked, his voice full of impatience. He took a big step forward and easily picked Susan up from the ground.
"Put me down.
"This is my home.
"Caleb, you jerk.
"Ah!" Susan was thrown onto the bed. "Are you crazy? I'm sick."
"You know you're sick? I don't see any sign of illness when you walk around barefoot." Susan felt like he was going to drive her crazy. "What are you here for?"
"What's it to you? You don't want me to come, but you can let Francis come? You even called his name when you opened the door just now." Caleb gritted his teeth, his words filled with a strong envy.
"Yes, I wanted Francis to come, but I just didn't want to see you."
"You'd better shut up before I strangle you," Caleb warned, "You lie down."
"How did you get sick?"
Her face burned like a red tomato. "Isn't it all because I was waiting for you at the door of the bar? You were having a good time inside, and I was freezing outside." Susan was full of resentment.
From a few years ago until now, all the suffering she had endured was because of him.
"Who asked you to wait outside? Can't you find a place to stay? I didn't ask you to follow me from the company to the bar."
"You knew I was outside? Then why did you...
"Bastard." Susan grabbed a pillow and hit him.
"I didn't blame you for following me. Susan, you're the one who asked me, so you have to endure whatever I do to you."
Caleb never thought about letting her freeze. This stupid woman, waiting outside in sub-zero temperatures for hours. Wasn't she afraid of freezing to death? Everything she did made him angry.
As soon as Susan spoke, Caleb covered her mouth. "Save your energy. You're so noisy, like a frog.
"If you're sick, lie down and stop talking. Do you understand?"
Before Caleb suffocated her, Susan blinked her eyes and Caleb let go, heading to the living room.
Susan was so angry that she couldn't rest, and she was muttering to herself when suddenly a series of noises came from the kitchen. She threw back the covers and chased after Caleb, who was bending over to pick something up.
"Get out of the way! Are you trying to tear down my kitchen?"
"Didn't I tell you to lie down?"
"You're making so much noise, and I'm not deaf. How can I sleep? If I didn't come out, are you going to tear down my whole house?"
"I'll compensate you with a new one."
"This is not only a house but also a home for me and Oliver, a place with shared memories. You wouldn't understand the significance of this house to us."
"I don't understand?" Caleb laughed. He understood too well, and that's why he was so miserable. Clearly, she was the heartless one.
"Susan, I wish I didn't understand, or I wouldn't have come here."
"You just want to see how miserable I am, right? You don't have to pretend."
"Am I a hypocrite?" Caleb retorted, leaving Susan speechless. After this reunion, Caleb's attitude toward her had always been very bad, unlike someone who would play tricks, so... was he deliberately coming to care for her?
