Chapter 577 Be Nicer to Mommy

As May rolled in, the heat cranked up day by day.

Grace got to the restaurant early, nervously waiting in the private room.

The second the door swung open, she dashed over, "Candy!"

"Mommy!" Candy jumped into Grace's arms like a happy little deer, "Mommy, I missed you so much."

"I missed you too, Candy. Have you put on a bit of weight?"

"Yeah, Susan makes me so much yummy food every day, it's hard not to." Candy patted her round little belly.

Grace chuckled, "A little chub makes you even cuter. Did you thank Susan?"

"Of course I did."

"Good girl, it's almost time to eat. Go wash your hands first."

"Okay."

Grace stood up and gratefully said to Caleb, "Thanks for bringing Candy to see me every weekend. If it's a hassle next time, I can come pick her up."

"No need." Caleb's tone was always frosty.

"I want to clear up what happened before. I really didn't set up that reporter. Please believe me."

"If it wasn't you, I won't blame you. But if it was, I won't let it slide." Caleb said icily.

"I'm just scared you'll misunderstand and stop me from seeing Candy. Caleb, I've really moved on. I know we can't go back, and I don't expect to. I genuinely wish you and Susan all the best now." Grace said earnestly.

In her mind, she sneered, 'I hope you both rot in hell; karma's coming for you.'

"I don't need your blessings."

Grace smiled self-deprecatingly, "I know. But I still want you to know how grateful I am to both of you."

"Mommy, I've washed my hands, they're clean and smell nice. Smell them." Candy raised her hands.

"Yes, they smell nice."

"Mommy, Susan invited you to dinner next Saturday."

"Really?" Grace looked at Caleb in surprise.

"She invited you."

"Thank her for me. I'll be there on time." Grace seemed very happy, "Candy, it's time to eat."

"Okay. Mommy, it's all my favorite dishes."

"Not just your favorites, but also your daddy's." Grace looked at Caleb and cut a piece of steak for him.

"No need!" Caleb coldly refused.

"I haven't used this cutlery..." Grace hurriedly said.

"Daddy, this steak looks really good. Try it." Candy urged.

Only then did Caleb pick up the steak Grace had cut for him.

"How is it? Doesn't it taste good? I know you don't like your steak too well done, so I specifically asked for it to be medium-rare."

"There's no need for that."

Grace smiled awkwardly, "Even if we're divorced, we can still be friends. There's no need to act like enemies, especially since we have a daughter, right? I really am grateful to you and Susan."

"Stop saying these things. Let's eat." Caleb remained indifferent.

Candy pouted, "Daddy is so mean to Mommy. I don't like it when Daddy is like this."

"Candy, don't be like that. I made mistakes before..." Grace gently comforted.

"But Mommy has already been punished for your mistakes. The teacher said everyone makes mistakes. It's okay as long as they see their errors and mend it. Daddy can't keep blaming Mommy for the past. That's too petty."

"Let's eat." Caleb finally cracked a smile at Candy.

"Daddy, promise me you won't be mean to Mommy anymore, or I won't eat."

"Your daddy wasn't mean to me, Candy." Grace smiled, "Enjoy the food, okay?"

"I don't care. If Daddy doesn't promise me, I won't eat." Candy pouted.

Grace helplessly looked at Caleb, her eyes saying: Why don't you just humor your daughter?

Caleb sighed silently, "Okay, I promise you. Alright?"

"Then show it. Daddy, cut the steak for Mommy."

Caleb frowned.

Candy pouted, "Daddy said he would be nice to Mommy, but you won't even cut the steak. Daddy is a liar. I don't like liars."

Reluctantly, Caleb cut the steak for Grace.

Even though he was forced, Grace still looked pleasantly surprised, "Thank you."

"Candy, I've cut the steak for Mommy. Are you not angry anymore?"

"From now on, Daddy has to take care of Mommy every time, and you can't be mean to her. You have to be gentle with her. Promise me, Daddy." Candy hugged Caleb's arm and pleaded, "Daddy, Daddy..."

"Promise me, okay?"

Caleb, a man with a heart of stone, couldn't handle three people: Susan, Oliver, and Candy.

How could he bear to disappoint his precious daughter?

"Okay."

Candy instantly cheered, "Daddy promised! I knew Daddy was the best to me!"

Then Caleb was supervised by Candy to serve Grace food, and he had to speak more gently.

Finally, after dinner, they could leave. The three of them walked out of the restaurant.

"Daddy, let's take Mommy home."

"No need, Candy. I can take a cab home."

"No, it's dangerous for a female to take a cab alone. Daddy, didn't you just promise to be nice to Mommy? A gentleman should take a female home."

"No need, Candy, I..."

"Get in the car." Caleb opened the car door.

Grace blushed and said softly, "Okay, thank you."

All the way, Candy and Grace chatted and laughed until they arrived at the Bailey family's villa.

"Mommy, remember to come to our house for dinner next week. I'll be waiting for you."

"Okay, I remember." Grace kissed Candy and said to Caleb, "Thank you for today. Drive safely."

"Okay."

Caleb didn't say much and drove away.

Grace smiled meaningfully, 'Candy was indeed my daughter! Caleb, with Candy around, you'll never get rid of me in this lifetime!'

Caleb returned home, completely drained, "I'm back."

"Susan, I'm back." Candy called out happily, "I already told my mommy about dinner next week. My mommy said thank you and that she'll be on time."

"Good, that's settled."

"Susan, I'm going to play with Oliver. I missed him all afternoon."

"He's in his room doing homework. Go ahead."

"Why do you look so tired?" Susan asked Caleb.

"Seeing Grace is exhausting," Caleb grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen, "And Candy kept asking me to be nice to her. It's really a hassle."

"Grace is Candy's mommy. It's normal for Candy to want you to be nice to her mommy."

"But just looking at her annoys me, let alone being nice to her? It's really too much for me." Caleb shook his head, frowning, "I feel like Candy wants me to reconcile with her."
