Chapter 406 The Jealous Man

In the car.

Nora wore a mocking smile as she looked at the couple across the street.

Layla sure didn't disappoint her. She messed around Brian so quickly.

Sending Brian to Brightness Design Company was like delivering prey to the shameless Layla. How could she not take the bait? It only took a few days for them to flirt.

Men just couldn't escape this bitch's tricks.

Nora thought of Samuel, who had once abandoned her. The thought of his girlfriend cheating on him abroad gave her a sense of vengeful satisfaction.

Now it was his turn.

'Samuel, choosing a fickle bitch is your punishment for abandoning me!' Nora squinted her narrow eyes and sneered.

Layla got home, took a shower, and video-called Samuel.

Seeing her so animated and talkative, Samuel asked, "You're in a good mood today. What's the good news?"

"Am I?" Layla paused to take a sip of water. "I don't think so."

Samuel gave her a look that said, "What can you hide from me?"

Layla had to cautiously confess. "I found that I get along quite well with the new boss..."

She tried to put it mildly, but Samuel's eyebrow shot up in an instant, his tone turning a bit sinister. "Get along quite well? Didn't you say he was a robot before?"

"Yeah, but you know, sometimes people aren't what they seem at first. We actually have a lot in common," she explained.

These words clearly made Samuel uncomfortable. His gaze grew more intense and dangerous as he asked, "In what way?"

"Well, our design philosophies and tastes are similar. He really likes my designs," she explained.

"My woman's talent is undeniable; only an idiot wouldn't appreciate it."

"That's not what I mean. Even among excellent designers, there can be conflicts in ideas. This time, I used a very bold indigo, which others might not accept, but Mr. Evans loved it. I feel like my work is finally being recognized, you know?" Layla's excitement was palpable, her beautiful eyes sparkling.

To Samuel, that sparkle was blinding. No man liked it when his woman lighted up talking about another man.

Samuel would never allow it!

"Not only that, we even have the same taste in food. Can you believe it? Every dish he ordered was exactly what I wanted. It's amazing how well he knows me..." Layla animatedly continued, but then she noticed Samuel had been staring at her in silence for several minutes.

Layla instinctively swallowed and stopped. "What's wrong?"

"What do you think?" he asked.

"Are you upset?"

"What do you think?" Samuel retorted, his face still dark.

Oh no, she had crossed Samuel's line. Layla silently blamed herself for getting carried away and forgetting that Samuel was incredibly jealous. She had vividly described how well she got along with another man, of course he would be angry.

Layla sheepishly smiled. "Mr. Evans and I just have a very pure superior-subordinate relationship..."

Samuel raised an eyebrow. "Otherwise?"

'Does she want it to be impure?' Samuel thought.

"Why does it feel even more dangerous when I explain?" Layla felt a chill down her spine. "I'm a designer. Being recognized for my work makes me really happy, you know..."

"I don't know," Samuel replied coolly, his eyes fixed on Layla, waiting for her to explain further.

Layla wanted to scratch her head. "Why are you so easily jealous? You can't be jealous over this, can you?"

"Why not? Put yourself in my shoes. If I told you I had great chemistry with a female colleague, how would you feel?"

Layla would definitely be jealous and ignore him for three days.

Thinking about it that way, Layla felt a bit guilty, but she wouldn't show it because that would only make her "crime" worse.

"I... I'd be happy for you..." She lied through her teeth.

"Really?" Samuel saw right through her and responded with a cold smile.

"Meeting a boss who shares my views and appreciates my designs is rare. I'm grateful to him, and he admires my work. There's absolutely no romantic interest." she promised, raising her hand.

"I believe you," Samuel replied.

Layla's smile hadn't even fully formed...

"But I don't trust him!" Samuel said coldly.

"Come on, I'm just an ordinary girl. Do you think everyone falls for me?" she asked.

"You said the same thing about Nathan back then. And what happened?" Samuel still remembered that old incident. He really held grudges.

Samuel still remembered that old incident. He really held grudges.

"You're a high and mighty CEO. Don't be so petty," Layla said, using her fingernail to show how narrow-minded he was.

"Any man who loves a woman has a narrow-minded. If he's tolerant and indifferent, there's only one possibility," Samuel said confidently, "He doesn't love her."

Layla agreed with this logic, but in this situation, she couldn't admit it. She countered and said, "There's another possibility, that is, he trusts her. Trust is the foundation of a relationship."

"No other possibilities," Samuel immediately retorted, his cold and domineering expression unwavering.

Layla softened under his powerful aura and fell silent.

"If it weren't out of respect for you, I'd tie you up at home so no man could even look at you," Samuel said seriously and possessively, his eyes filled with intense jealousy. "Even if a male fly looked at you, I'd be jealous."

Layla's heart fluttered wildly. No woman could resist such domineering possessiveness.

Women inherently had a sense of vanity and a desire to be possessed, and Layla was no exception.

This made Layla both excited and moved.

It was like a dangerous dance, like flames burning Layla up.

"Samuel..." she said.

"Keep your distance from him," he added.

"Okay." Layla nodded. "My heart belongs to you."

Only then did Samuel's expression soften, returning to his usual gentle smile. "It's getting late. Get some rest. Don't kick off the blanket while you sleep."

"But I miss you. I want to talk to you a bit longer," Layla said, hugging his usual pillow, her voice muffled and reluctant.

"I'll be back in three days," Samuel reassured her.

"Three days, that's a long 72 hours. It's too hard to bear," she replied.

"Trust me, you won't understand the torment better than I do," Samuel said, his gaze intense and restrained with pain. His eyes were filled with deep affection and longing.

Layla felt a tingling sensation from his gaze.

"Get some good rest these few days. When I get back, I'll take good care of you!" he said.
