Chapter 881 That Man is Unreliable
But Brynn glanced disdainfully at her hand, looked her up and down, and said, "What project department? I think it's the PR department."
"Do all of you at the Cooper Group rely on pretty women to seduce clients?" Brynn said disdainfully.
Sure enough, she was a spoiled socialite, speaking so rudely right off the bat.
But for some reason, Juniper couldn't bring herself to dislike her and smiled gently, "A woman's looks and abilities aren't mutually exclusive. Just because I'm pretty doesn't mean I'm incompetent and have to rely on my looks."
"Don't take me for an idiot. You're just relying on your face," Brynn snorted, feeling superior.
"Go back. I won't work with you."
Eldon had a headache but found it hard to persuade the headstrong Brynn.
"Why? Just because I'm pretty?"
"And you keep saying you're pretty? You're so narcissistic," Brynn mocked.
"So, Ms. Elise, do you think you're beautiful?"
Brynn proudly lifted her chin, "Of course, I'm beautiful."
Wait, was she being mocked?
"We're here to discuss a collaboration, not to compare looks. Shouldn't we look at the contract first?" Juniper asked.
"No need. I find you annoying just by looking at you, and I don't want to talk to you," Brynn directly refused. "Why would I let someone I dislike hang around me every day?"
Eldon shook his head helplessly, "Ms. Cooper, let me review the contract and get back to you."
"Alright, thank you." Juniper handed the contract to Eldon. He seemed more reasonable, probably sent by the CEO to solve Brynn's problems.
"Eldon, why did you take her contract? You're making me look bad," Brynn complained as she entered the office, unhappy.
"Ms. Elise, work is work. You can't be capricious."
"I've always been like this. Haven't you noticed after twelve years by my side?"
Brynn had gone abroad at ten, always accompanied by Eldon, who was two years older.
"I know you best, but you've grown up. You're not a child anymore; you can't be capricious."
"Why do you sound like my dad?" Brynn didn't like hearing that. "I'm only twenty-two; I'm still a kid. What's wrong with being capricious?"
"You can be capricious at other times, but not at work."
"That's why I said I hate work. I also don't like that woman just now; she's too full of herself, thinking she's so pretty." But Brynn couldn't deny that she was indeed very pretty.
Brynn took out a compact and looked in the mirror, "Eldon, who do you think is prettier, me or her?"
"Of course, you. You're the most beautiful woman in the world," Eldon said sincerely.
Always had been, from the first moment he saw her.
"You're the third most handsome man in the world. Anthony is the most handsome, my dad and my brother are tied for second, and then there's you. That's a high honor, you know."
"Thank you, Ms. Elise." Eldon felt a bit regretful but quickly reminded himself not to be greedy and to remember his place.
He was her playmate, bodyguard, tutor, and butler, wearing many hats but never her boyfriend.
Their status gap was too large. He was just an orphan adopted by Atticus Elise, with no parents and a humble background.
Being with her was already a great fortune; he shouldn't harbor any unrealistic fantasies, as that would be a desecration of her.
"By the way, we're having dinner with Anthony's family tonight. It's been so long since I last saw him. Do you think the pink dress I bought yesterday will look good? Will he think it's pretty?"
Eldon immediately said, "You look good in anything. If he doesn't think so, then he has poor taste."
"You're getting better at talking. Have you learned to lie too?" Brynn blinked.
"I'm telling the truth," Eldon hurriedly said.
"I'm just kidding. Don't be nervous. Of course, I know you're sincere. You're the most honest man in the world and would never lie to me." Brynn trusted him completely.
Eldon felt a bit guilty. Silently loving her, that shouldn't count as deceit, right? He was just carefully guarding his humble, unrequited love for her.
"Since you say it looks good, I'll wear that dress. I'm really looking forward to tonight." Brynn was full of anticipation and very happy.
Seeing this, Eldon hesitated.
Having known her for so many years, Brynn could tell something was off with him at a glance, "Do you have something to say?"
"Ms. Elise, do you like Mr. Eilish? Like, in a romantic way?"
"Yes," Brynn nodded without hesitation, her thoughts pure.
"I told you before, I fell in love with him at first sight when I was five."
"You were too young then to understand what love is. Besides, you haven't seen Mr. Eilish many times since. You've been abroad for so many years and have only met him two or three times. You don't really know Mr. Eilish. How can you like someone you don't know?"
"Our families are old friends. Even though Anthony and I haven't met often, our families know each other well. I know exactly what kind of person he is."
"Have you ever thought that maybe you don't know him? You might just be in love with the idea of Anthony, not the real Anthony."
"What's the difference? Anthony is the most perfect man in the world." Brynn felt very happy just thinking about him.
Resting her chin in her hand, she looked dreamy, "Anthony is the most perfect man in the world."
"A perfect man wouldn't run away from a wedding. That's just irresponsible."
"Don't you dare talk about Anthony like that. If Anthony did that, he must have had his reasons. Is marrying someone you don't love the right thing to do? I don't think so. I actually find him very brave, romantic, and passionate, doing what he wants regardless of societal expectations. I like him even more for that."
"That's blind infatuation! Ms. Elise, I'm not trying to badmouth him, but have you considered that if he can run away from a wedding once, he might do it again and betray you? I still think a man who can do such a thing is unreliable. You're just idealizing him."
"And Ms. Elise, you've never been in a relationship. Maybe you don't even know what love is."
Brynn was a bit upset, "How could I not know? I knew when I was five. I fell in love with Anthony at first sight. Besides, haven't I read enough romance comics and watched enough idol dramas over the years? That heart-pounding feeling is exactly how I feel about Anthony. It can't be wrong."
"Eldon, isn't it a good thing that I have someone I like? Why do you keep denying me?"
Eldon looked at her worriedly, "I just don't want you to get hurt. I hope you can marry a man truly worth entrusting your life to."
Only then could he be at peace and leave her with a clear conscience.
He couldn't trust Anthony with her, no matter what.
