Chapter 603: You Are Biological Mother and Daughter

For a whole week, Samuel's life was all about cake, cake, and more cake.

Banana cake, cream cake, Black Forest cake, mousse cake.

You name it, he tried it.

Layla's cake-baking obsession was off the charts, and she was only getting more into it. "Today's special is a super yummy matcha cake!"

Samuel couldn't help but gulp, "Babe, can you do me a solid?"

"What?"

"Can this be the last one? I've packed on at least 3 pounds. Can't I keep my abs?" He'd eaten more cake in the past few days than he had in his entire life!

"It's cool, just hit the gym after."

"But you don't 'work out' with me."

"You can do more push-ups and sit-ups yourself. It's just a piece of cake; you'll burn it off quick. Come on, give it a try."

Every time Samuel swore it was the last cake, but when he saw Layla's hopeful eyes, he couldn't say no and reluctantly took a bite.

"How's it taste?"

Samuel wanted to say that no matter how good it was, he couldn't eat it every day. But if he said that, he'd definitely get an earful. He forced a smile, "Good, delicious."

"Then finish this piece."

Samuel was floored.

"Hurry up." Layla pushed.

"Okay." Samuel could only force himself to finish the cake. He regretted ever volunteering to be the taste tester.

"Babe, I'm heading to Novaria for a business trip tomorrow, probably for about a week," Samuel said.

"You're going to Novaria just to dodge eating cake? Is it that bad?" Layla exaggerated.

Samuel chuckled, "Not really. There's a new company opening there, and I can't skip it. Why don't you come with me?"

"I'll pass. Running around while pregnant is exhausting. I'll stay home and keep whipping up new desserts. When you get back, I'll make them for you one by one, okay?" Layla's dessert-making fire was blazing.

Samuel smiled wryly, "Okay, sure."

It must be true love if he dared to come back from Novaria.

The next day.

A white Mercedes was parked not far from the supermarket. Brenda sat in the back seat and saw Layla coming out with two bags.

She was wearing loose clothes, and her belly had a slight bump.

Others might not notice she was pregnant, but Brenda saw it right away.

No doubt the kid was Samuel's. Is this why they rekindled their old flame?

Things just got messier.

Brenda got out of the car.

Layla had just taken a few steps.

"Ms. Adkins." A figure stood in front of her with bad intentions.

"Mrs. Eilish, are you stalking me?" Layla frowned, clearly annoyed.

"Why are you still in City A?" Brenda's tone was like she was kicking out a pest.

"Mrs. Eilish, you're educated. Can't you understand plain English? I've said it a million times, I'm not leaving this city. Unless I want to, no one can make me leave."

"Is it because you're pregnant with Samuel's kid? You know he almost married Nora."

"You said 'almost,' which means they didn't tie the knot. Samuel and I are both single. Why can't we be together? Samuel isn't Nora's property, don't get it twisted."

"Your relationship is built on hurting innocent Nora. How can you be so self-righteous? Aren't you worried your mom would be ashamed of you?"

Layla was taken aback, then smirked, "I grew up without a mom, so you don't need to worry about that."

"You..." Brenda's emotions were all over the place, and she clenched her fists. "You won't leave no matter what?"

"Yeah, I'm not leaving. This is the last time I'll say it, so listen up and don't come looking for me again."

"I'll give you money, five million dollars. Will you abort the baby and leave this city forever?" Brenda said, desperate.

Layla's frown deepened, "Mrs. Eilish, your daughter isn't as desperate as you are. What exactly are you after?"

She felt it wasn't that simple, like Brenda was really scared of her being around.

"I... I'm doing it for my daughter."

Brenda thought, 'Yeah, I only have one daughter, and that's Nora.'

So she absolutely couldn't let Layla mess up her happy and perfect family. Layla was just a piece of her past from twenty years ago, nothing more, no other connection.

"Don't worry about what I'm thinking. You have to leave this city. I've been nice, but if you keep being stubborn, I will..." Brenda threatened.

Honestly, Layla didn't take Brenda's threats seriously, "You need to understand, Samuel is my partner. If you dare touch a hair on my head, the entire Eilish family won't be enough to pay for it."

"You..." Brenda was intimidated but still wouldn't give up.

"I'm begging you, will you leave this city?" Brenda chased after her, anxiously pleading, "I'll agree to any condition you have, as long as you leave."

"Stop following me," Layla tried to shake her off.

"I said, stop following me! If you keep following, I'll call the cops," Layla warned, annoyed, not noticing a car speeding towards her as she stepped onto the road.

"Watch out—" Suddenly, before Layla could react, Brenda pushed her away. Blood pooled around Brenda as she lay unmoving on the ground.

Hospital.

Brenda was rushed into the emergency room, and Layla was in a daze. When the car hit, Brenda had pushed her away, saving her life. It was unbelievable. Her head was spinning.

As soon as the nurse came out, she hurriedly grabbed her and asked, "How is she?"

"The patient is bleeding heavily and needs type P blood. Our hospital is currently short on this extremely rare blood type."

"I'm type P," Layla quickly said.

"Then come with me for a match."

"Okay."

The results came out quickly.

Layla hurriedly asked, "I'm type P, can my blood be used?"

"Why didn't you tell us you were mother and daughter earlier? Blood transfusions between close relatives are risky. I've already asked the blood bank to get blood."

"Mother and daughter?" Layla was shocked. "You must be mistaken. We're not mother and daughter. She is..."

"Can a blood test be wrong? We just got confirmation: she is 100% your biological mother," the nurse said confidently.

"We got the blood," Another nurse rushed over with a blood bag.

"The blood is here, we don't need yours. I have to go assist with the surgery," The nurse returned to the emergency room.
