Chapter 610: Saved
Right now, Layla was hanging by a thread, totally wiped out. All she wanted was to ditch the pain and actually live.
She let the captain grab her hand to sign.
She had zero energy left to fight back.
Just then.
The door of the interrogation room got kicked open, and a squad of black-suited bodyguards barged in, lining up in two rows.
Samuel, rocking a black trench coat, walked in like he owned the place. The room's temperature dropped like a rock.
Seeing Layla being forced to sign, looking like she was about to kick the bucket, Samuel lost it.
Damn it!
He stormed over and booted the captain away.
The captain hit the ground, coughing up blood, his insides wrecked from that kick.
"Layla, Layla..." Samuel held Layla close.
Her once chubby face was now ghostly pale, cheeks sunken like she’d lost ten pounds, looking totally beat.
Dark circles under her eyes made it seem like she could barely keep them open.
"Layla, Layla?" Samuel called out.
Layla's breathing was barely there.
Samuel was freaking out, "Layla, wake up, I'm back, Layla..."
"Samuel?" Layla looked at him groggily, tears streaming from her dry eyes, sobbing, "Samuel..."
She closed her eyes and passed out from sheer exhaustion.
"What did you do to her? Spill it!" Samuel demanded, fuming.
Everyone was shaking. Faces pale, sweating bullets.
"Mr. Holland, it wasn't me... it was Nora, she made me do it... Her mom accused Layla of murder, Nora made me force her to sign, said if she didn't, she wouldn't let her sleep... she made us grill her in shifts."
So, for the past 3 days, Layla hadn't caught a wink?
Was Nora trying to torture her to death with such brutal tactics?
Samuel was both raging and heartbroken, his chest heaving.
The captain knelt, kowtowing and crying, begging, "Mr. Holland, I was wrong, I, I didn't dare, I was forced by Nora. I begged her to stop, but she wouldn't. It's really not my fault, please spare me, Mr. Holland..."
He cried pitifully, but Samuel wasn't about to let anyone who hurt Layla off the hook.
Narrowing his eyes, Samuel's gaze turned deadly.
"3 days, huh? Fine, then lock them up for 7 days, grill them in shifts until they drop!" Samuel said coldly, his bloodshot eyes burning with vengeance.
"Mr. Holland, Mr. Holland, please spare us, we'll die... Mr. Holland..."
"Mr. Holland..."
The pleas for mercy echoed.
The figure, radiating a demonic aura, strode away.
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
Brenda's worry grew with each passing day.
It had been 3 days, she had no clue what was happening over there.
Several times she tried to speak, but Nora cut her off, threatening to cut ties.
Brenda, tormented, finally couldn't hold back, "I want to drop the lawsuit."
"Drop the lawsuit?" Nora sneered.
"Yeah, Layla didn't push me, I pushed her away. She's innocent, I can't wrong her. I want to drop the lawsuit," Brenda said firmly.
"But I just want to frame her. The truth doesn't matter, what matters is I want to torture her, and she can't escape," Nora said coldly.
"Nora, you're blinded by hate, you're not thinking straight. I can't let you keep making mistakes, I must drop the lawsuit!" Brenda thought she had to stop all this no matter what, it couldn't go on, absolutely not.
"Not a chance."
"If you won't drop the lawsuit, I'll head to the police station myself," Brenda said, gritting her teeth as she tried to get out of bed.
"Mom, cut it out," Nora blocked her.
"Move," Brenda struggled with her. Her wounds were still healing. After a few shoves, she was in serious pain, stopping to catch her breath.
"Mom... why are you doing this?" Nora said impatiently, "Just stay put."
"I have to go," Brenda insisted.
Nora, frustrated, pushed her back onto the bed.
Brenda's face twisted in pain.
"I told you to stay put, why won't you listen, why do you have to go against me?" Nora snapped, her attitude towards Brenda turning harsh. "Even if you go to the police station, it won't help, who dares to release her if I don't allow it?"
"Release Layla..." Brenda panted, "Don't make more mistakes."
"Why are you so worried about her? What's your deal with her? Are you willing to ditch me, your daughter, for her?"
"Because you're my daughter, I can't watch you screw up."
"That's not the reason. You've been acting weird these days, always stressing about her. What's your connection with her?" Nora pressed.
"Nothing, no connection..."
"You're lying. What's the secret between you two? Spill it!" Nora demanded.
"Really nothing, Nora, please let her go. I'm begging you, okay?" Brenda pleaded, "Nora..."
"You think I can't find out if you don't tell me?" Nora pulled out her phone, "This is Nora, help me find out..."
Brenda's eyes showed panic, confirming Nora's suspicion that there was definitely more to it.
Before Nora could finish, several bodyguards rushed in.
"Who are you? Let go of me, let go..." Nora's phone was snatched away and smashed on the ground.
"What are you doing? Let go of my daughter, doctor, doctor!" Brenda shouted anxiously, "Stop it!"
Brenda endured the pain to intervene, but her frail body was easily pushed aside, "Nora, Nora..."
In the villa.
Layla on the bed was shockingly thin, her skin almost see-through, devoid of any color.
Samuel had been by her side for a whole day, not closing his eyes. His handsome features twisted in anxiety, looking somewhat agitated.
"It's been a whole day, why hasn't she woken up yet?"
"Ms. Adkins severely depleted her physical strength for she hasn't slept for 3 days, and she's pregnant, which can cause prolonged sleep. Moreover, after this ordeal, her health will be significantly affected," the doctor said cautiously, "It will take at least half a year of recuperation to recover."
Half a year, that would be the entire rest of her pregnancy?
She had to endure such inhumane torture in her 4th month of pregnancy, leaving her body completely drained. Samuel's heart ached at the thought. He hated himself for not noticing her abnormality sooner, if he had returned immediately, maybe it wouldn't happen...
He clenched his fists so hard that his knuckles cracked.
The doctor, fearing for himself, quickly said, "Although it will take a long time, as long as she recuperates, she will recover. There's no need to be overly anxious."
"Prescribe the best medicine, if she doesn't wake up tonight, then..." Samuel's unspoken threat was even more terrifying, and the doctor hurriedly nodded.
"I will do my best, Mr. Holland."
