Chapter 874 Hugo's Threat

But Saffron showed no gratitude at all and instead said confidently, "He's a cop. Catching criminals is his job. Why should I thank him?"

"You—" Saffron was so rude that it made Aaron feel very embarrassed.

"I'm asking you one last time, are you going to hand over the kidnappers to me?" Saffron demanded.

Alfonso had always been patient with her rudeness out of sympathy for her situation, but now he was finding it hard to tolerate. "I can't do that. I'm leaving."

He turned and left with a stern face.

"Saffron, how can you be so rude?"

"I've had my leg broken, why should I care about being polite?" Saffron said angrily. "It's not your leg that's broken! If he won't agree, I'll find someone to break their legs myself."

"No, Saffron, you can't do that!" Elara shouted.

"I mean, you can't take the law into your own hands. That's illegal. Even if you were in the right, you'd be wrong. Trust that the law will punish them."

Since when did Elara follow the law? She was clearly siding with that kidnapper Hugo! Juniper watched everything silently.

"I don't care! I want to break their legs!"

"Stop being ridiculous!"

While Aaron and Saffron were arguing, Elara quietly left and caught up with Alfonso.

"Sorry, Saffron was too rude. I apologize on her behalf."

Alfonso's face didn't look good, but he nodded. "It's okay, I didn't take it to heart."

"That's good. She's just too childish and was just talking. She didn't really mean it."

Alfonso chuckled lightly. "I don't think she was just talking."

"You don't understand her. That's just how she is. She just says things and doesn't mean them. Mr. Carr, can you arrange for me to meet Hugo?"

Alfonso immediately frowned. "I told you, I won't hand over the criminal to you privately."

Elara quickly waved her hand. "No, no, I didn't mean that. I just want to see him and ask some questions."

"Interrogating the criminal is our job as the police. When the interrogation report is out, I'll give you a detailed explanation."

"But I want to see him."

"Why?" Alfonso frowned, feeling something was off.

"You probably can't understand a mother's mindset." Elara wiped her eyes, squeezing out a few tears. "Mr. Carr, for the sake of your long friendship with Aaron, please arrange for us to meet. I promise I won't do anything. Trust me."

Seeing Elara crying and pleading, Alfonso felt a bit soft-hearted. "Alright, come to the police station tomorrow morning."

"Okay."

When Elara turned around, she saw Juniper standing not far away, looking at her meaningfully.

She panicked. Did she hear that?

She couldn't have heard from that distance, but did she suspect something?

Elara felt a bit flustered but pretended nothing was wrong and went back to the hospital.

The next day.

At the police station.

"This is a special arrangement. I'm only giving you fifteen minutes," Alfonso instructed.

"Thank you."

Elara hurried into the interrogation room.

Hugo was handcuffed to a chair. As soon as he saw her, he shouted excitedly, "Are you here to save me? Can I leave now?"

"Keep your voice down!" Elara quickly made a shushing gesture.

"Can you get me out?"

"Get you out? I wish you would rot in jail." Elara's eyes were filled with hatred. "Tell me clearly, what is going on? Why did you kidnap our daughter, and why are you the main culprit?"

"I, I'm not the main culprit. They forced me." Hugo stammered, clearly lying.

"Are you still not telling the truth?"

"Okay, okay, I'll talk. Don't be so angry. I lost over a million dollars gambling recently. That day you came to me, I wanted to ask you for money, but you told me Saffron had run away from home."

"So you thought of kidnapping your daughter to get a hundred million dollars? Hugo, you're insane!"

"I had no choice. If I didn't pay back the money, the boss would have killed me. I didn't really want to hurt our daughter. I thought I'd release her once I got the money. Who knew that Oscar would be so brutal and break her leg? I couldn't stop him in time."

"Elara, believe me, I didn't mean to hurt our daughter. It was an accident, an accident." Hugo pleaded. "I just wanted to take the money and leave with you and our daughter. I did it for our family."

"Hugo, do you think I'm an idiot? Do you think I'd believe you? You'd take the money and run, leaving us to fend for ourselves!" Elara's eyes were red with anger. "My daughter has a broken leg now. How are you going to compensate for that? Can you afford it?"

"I..." Hugo lowered his head. "Let's not talk about that now. Can you get me out?"

"You're in the police station. How can I get you out?"

"As long as you don't press charges, the police will release me," Hugo said, clinging to a sliver of hope.

"Aaron won't let you go, and Saffron definitely won't forgive you. She said she wants to break your legs and throw you in jail."

Hugo's face turned pale, and he said in a panic, "She can't do that to me. I'm her father!"

"She doesn't have a father as despicable as you. Hugo, you deserve this. Get ready to rot in jail."

"No, I don't want to go to jail. Don't abandon me, Elara. I know I was wrong. Just give me a chance. I'll leave immediately and never appear in front of you and our daughter again, okay?"

"It's too late. I can't save you."

Seeing that she was determined to abandon him, Hugo shouted, "If you don't save me, I'll expose everything about us!"

Elara felt like she was being strangled. She hurriedly said, "You did this, and now you want to drag me down with you?"

"I have no choice. You were the one who was heartless first."

"It's not that I'm heartless. I can't save you."

"No, you just don't want to save me. You can't wait for me to be locked up so that Aaron will never find out about your dirty deeds."

Hugo's eyes turned vicious. "Elara, you just want to get rid of me, you heartless woman."

"Heartless? If you hadn't kidnapped our daughter, none of this would have happened. You did this to yourself."

"Even without this, you would have found a way to get rid of me. You couldn't wait."

"Couldn't wait?" Elara was so angry she wanted to slap him.

She knew Hugo was no good, but she didn't expect him to be this disgusting. "Do you think I wanted my daughter to have a broken leg? It was your gambling!"

"The first time I gambled was because you took me there. You planned this from the start, to get me addicted and then get me into trouble."

Elara was so shocked by his absurdity that her eyes almost popped out. She had never seen someone so shameless!

Over the years, she had spent at least a million dollars on him, treating him like a useless person, and he was ungrateful and even turned against her!
